Overview

All travellers are required to go through immigration clearance upon arrival into Singapore.

The granting of visit passes to visitors is determined by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the point of entry. Visitors must satisfy the following basic entry requirements before they can be considered for entry into Singapore:

* A passport with at least 6 months validity

* Valid Singapore visa, if applicable (refer to the Visa Requirements page for more information)
* Sufficient funds to last for the intended period of stay in Singapore
* Confirmed onward/return tickets (where applicable)
* Entry facilities to their onward destinations, e.g. visas.
* Completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card
* Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable

The period of stay granted is shown on the visit pass endorsement given on the visitor's passport. Visitors are advised to check their passports for the arrival endorsement and take note of the number of days stay given before leaving the checkpoint.

All visitors on visit passes are not permitted to engage in any form of business, profession, occupation or paid employment while in Singapore.

Visitors are also reminded that it is a punishable offence to overstay in Singapore beyond the number of days given. If there is a need to stay beyond the period granted, visitors may apply for an extension of stay online via e-XTEND or at the Visitors Services Centre, 4th storey, ICA Building, before the visit pass expires. Application for extension of stay is subject to approval.

the best place to shop imo should be the Tebrau City, there are quite a lot of branded shops.

There's a salary cap of 4500 ie. 900 deduction. If you earn more than 4500, the maximum monthly deduction is still 900 only. There is no cap for EPF.

And you can claim a tax deduction for the whole CPF contribution (900 x 13 months = 11700) as opposed to a maximum deduction of 5000 for EPF.

Malaysia has a higher self relief of 8000 but you start paying tax sooner (@ 2500). This means that the first 10500 of income (not counting EPF deduction) is tax free in Malaysia.

Singapore has a miserable self relief of 1000, but you only start paying tax @ 20000. That means the first 21000 (not counting CPF deduction) is tax free.

As a result, Singaporean effective tax rates are much lower than Malaysia. With a net income of 100,000, your effective Sg tax rate is 7.1%. In Malaysia, it'll be more than double that, 14.5%.

You can go home during the weekend, you know. You're not giving up your Malaysian citizenship lah.

Now the problem with singapore is over-crowding. Went thru some of the ST Forum lately (mainly singaporean forumers). A lot of them complaining about foreign workers and staying together with them, as a result of overcrowding. I guess safety level with somewat be affected with more and more foreign workers (i dun mean foreign talent, i meant foreign labour).

u can choose to commute everyday. alot of msian are doign tat. what time u need to reach causeway will depend on where do u stay in JB & where is ur office in spore. my previous job at city hall start work at 9pm. i need to reach woodlands custom by 8pm. so i usually have to wake up around 6am+ & leave my house before 7am. the jam in custom is too unpredictable, so in order not to late for work, u have to get up quite early everyday.

u can work full time in spore & study part time at the same time. i used to do that too smile.gif

It does seem like theres no difference between commuting from causeway and in SIN itself. Couple months ago i was on ground duties and i had to reach work at 9am and i had to leave at 7 in order to make it. Imagine my place is near TPE (Sengkang) and i work near Changi.

sean, are you sure it's capped at 4500? Meaning the cpf 20% deduction is up to 900 max? does this max amount apply to the 15% employer CPF contribution?
