Hi everyone

How do you guys start your career there? Through contacts or randomly pick a company and apply?
I majored in Finance and has just graduated, now i'm waiting for my results. Was thinking to start my career over there but don't know where to start. Any advice?

I've already searched through the links given. Besides those, can i ask if anyone working in Singapore now and their company has job opening? Kindly inform me and i'll pm?

Thanks.

my first job was recommended by a friend. first job is usually tougher, but so long u gain ur PR, it will be much easier to job hop in future.

u can try online job portal such as jobstreet & jobsdb. Or u can also approach recruitment agency. i found my current job in a Jap MNC from recruitment agency.

hope this helps. biggrin.gif

Hi guys,

I m interested to work in sg as an audit assistant. I have 2 years working exp n I have a degree from UTAR. Could anyone please kindly help me? May I know is it easy to get one considering now is off peak? Or should I wait till peak period? I have tried jobstreet and its been rather dissapointing...

Thanks. thumbup.gif

were u in Big 4 or local audit firms? as from what i know, Big 4 in Spore are always in need of ppl. 2 of my friend, 1 was from PwC Msia, the other was from KPMG Msia, both joined KPMG Spore. One is an ACCA graduate from Sunway, the other is from Nilai.

u can always try to send ur resume thru their corporate website. all the best! icon_rolleyes.gif

Any good places to stay near Jurong/NTU area? Can find a place for less than $350 or not? I was hoping since near NTU, more students means the place is less expensive
*
i found mine near Jurong Point 2yrs ago, it was only $280/mth. increased to $330/mth since early this yr. it inclusive of furniture & utilities.
so i think depends on luck bah.. especially when the property market is doing quite well recently.. smile.gif

can i live in jb and commute to work in singapore everyday? what is it like to do that? what time will i have to be at the causeway by

Added on September 17, 2008, 6:59 amdo you know any good websites to study in singapore? can you get a loan to study there as a foreigner.

Added on September 17, 2008, 7:06 amcan i work part time in singapore and study for a degree part time. or work full time and study part time?
*
u can choose to commute everyday. alot of msian are doign tat. what time u need to reach causeway will depend on where do u stay in JB & where is ur office in spore. my previous job at city hall start work at 9pm. i need to reach woodlands custom by 8pm. so i usually have to wake up around 6am+ & leave my house before 7am. the jam in custom is too unpredictable, so in order not to late for work, u have to get up quite early everyday.

u can work full time in spore & study part time at the same time. i used to do that too smile.gif

what kind of degree are u holding? <$1.5k is quite low for a degree holder.

can check out www.ica.gov.sg for more info on the requirement for EP/S Pass, etc

most imptly is ur interest, at least u wont feel its a drag to go to work everyday.. can always treat ur 1st job in spore as a stepping stone, once u get ur PR it will be much easier to job hop tongue.gif

btw, does anyone know any transport coy go to & fro changi airport & JB? i've an early flight at 710am to bkk & will return near midnite. thought of hiring some transport coy to travel to airport..

I think he misunderstood. non sg pr/citizen can drive malaysian car go in singapore for 10 TIMES foc once you apply for autopass..
After 10 times u go in u will be charged 10 dollar per entry to singapore. ERP still count on no matter u 1st or 2nd time drive in to singapore..
*
the VEP charges should be S$20/entry, not S$10. more info can be found in the website below smile.gif

Whats MDR? I have a fren who just got work in the admin department for one company, she starting out 1650 but it maybe just probation, the funny thing is that her employer give her work permit only. I thought she would get at least an S Pass or EP since she has a degree in mass com from the UK.

Just 2 ask, getting a work permit, s pass or ep is it dependent solely on your qualifications or whether or not your employer preference to apply for you either one?
*
altho ur fren is a UK degree holder, but her pay is only 1650, if i'm not wrong. the criteria to apply for a S pass is S$1.8k whereas EP is S$2.5k. anyway, ur fren can always clarify with the HR before signing the offer.. smile.gif

i dunno bout msia...cos i been working at sg since i grad....but i still feel the paced is faster here....and i been to msia for technical support....customers did not push me as much....and my colleagues at penang are very slack...long lunch hours...got time for afternoon yamcha.....

cos i know if machine down at chartered...die die also must fix it....i have very bad exp there....
*
chrt is really quite an extreme case. i was there for close to 3yrs while i was doing my part time diploma. the package/benefit is quite gd, AWS, yr end bonus, qtrly bonus, OT, shift allowances, etc. but is really stressful working there. yup, especially when the machine is down, lots are jam, etc. ur machine cannot even idle for 1min, otherwise u'd be question by ur engr. i received 3 spot awards while i was there. 1 was due to a SPSR raised wrongly by an engr to send some backend wafers to a frontend machine. which mean, u have to be alert at all times

the working hrs for normal shift start at 8am, considered pretty early as compare to other coy who usually start at 9am. i always had a hard time getting up so early in the morning rclxub.gif

so wer r u working now?...ur pay now better than chartered?....they say chartered treat vendors worse than dogs....i got chased out by one of the principal engineer b4....very lansi...there was once, they even said this to a japanese enginer "You all only know how to make porns?"...and that guys is just a normal equipment engineer.....i dunno how chartered people can be so disrespectful....really dislike the culture there....too stressful....
*
i'm doing accounts in a foreign MNC now, frankly speaking, i prefer my colls & working environment here.
used to see vendor coming back middle of the night to troubleshoot machine, engrs are always standby & need to be in the line most of the times. i guess this happen in all wafer fabrication industry, including chrt. there're ppl who can stay real long there too. brows.gif

Hello, does anybody know any place to rent in Boon Lay area?

My budget is below S$350.

I found a job in Singapore but yet a place to stay. doh.gif
*
i'm staying in boon lay too. got this room 2yrs ago at $280, increased to S$330 a yr later. staying alone with utilities + furniture. its considered quite cheap as compared to the market rate now.

the fastest way to get a room is via agent. but u'll have to pay them commission. my friend found hers 1 yr ago near JE MRT, she was charged around S$400/mth, including utilities, air-con, etc. so i guess this should be the market rate now. anyway, u can always bargain if u do not need air-con or the location is not near to MRT

btw, i used to work in BL too. my ex coy is located is Jln Boon Lay, what coy are u joining? smile.gif

i'm staying in Boon Lay.
the problem is, she wants to increase the rent from next mth onwards, since today is 15th, she is only giving me 2wks notice.
she told me to consider, but in fact, she has posted the ad online a wk ago.
