Hi there,
I have a pair of old bookshelf 2 way speaker:
Freq response: 70-20000Hz
Norminal impedence: 6ohm
Power Handling: 80Watts
Sensitivity at 1M/1W

You think t-amp got enough power to make it sing?
Thanks.
*
Sensitivity rating seems to be missing...
Where do you intend to place the speakers? In a bedroom? Living room?

Mine goes quite loud driving a pair of floorstanders in my small living room

Thanks for the reply. Sensitivity at 1M/1W is 88 dB. I just want to put it in my room.

xtorm, thanks for the recommendation. Will order the caps today and hopefully can start the mod by next week smile.gif
right now, it is still sounding harsh and as advise by Y.C., there will be significant improvement after the first 100hrs burn in...

kww,
The T-Amp should have no problem driving your <no spam links> speakers. Mine is an 89dB tongue.gif

We tend to only examine the sensitivity of loudspeakers (eg. 88 dB/1m/1w) to determine whether a particular amplifier could drive them or otherwise. Sensitivity only tell us how loud the loudspeakers will sound, ie 1 metre in front of them, 1 watt of amplifier power will yield a loudness of 88 decibels but not whether we are getting enough of highs, mid or bass.

We need to also examine whether the loudspeakers present an "easy" or a "difficult" load to amplifiers where we look at their measured impedance. Figures specified in specs, eg. 8 ohms are only the nominal impedances and actual impedances do not remain same at different frequencies. As a general rule, an easy load is one which the impedance is high eg. 8 ohms as opposed to 4 ohms and remain almost constant which does not dip to very low, say 2 ohms. For easy load loudspeakers, amplifiers need not work very hard and reason why low-powered amplifiers would prefer driving 16 ohms loudspeakers.

hey there wui!
Wishing you all the best in your final paper. thumbup.gif

Wonder where your got yhe news.. hmm.gif
Yes. it is up and running. I need to re-designed the circuit, change a few components values as the default gain is wee bit too high for my liking.. pix and/or report.. I'll think about it ler.. no time for it now. I have not been posting for quite awhile here..

Hi JC,
When will you be back from Penang? (seems like you told me a long time ago.. I have selective memory laugh.gif )
The good part is, I have got all the required hardware ready. I got so engrossed with the buffer pre-amp that I kiv'ed your RCA converter biggrin.gif
You're not around, thats why! BUT nothing to it. 1/2 hour is all I need to do it. wink.gif

There were no mention of any TT Session since we had the last one at your place.. probably they had 'enough' wink.gif

just concentrate on your exam/thesis. DIY will always be there waiting wink.gif
anyway, after listening the T-Amp with the buffer pre-amp, I no longer want to use 'passive' or my current 'active' Yamaha pre-amp! rclxms.gif

Oh.. what TT is that? Thorens? hmm.gif Lemme check.. wink.gif

I guess this is a company based in Malaysia. It looks cool but the price tag obviously not target local ppl.
This reminds me of jazzy unfinished gainclone project, i myself think of building it long long time ago. Just the transformer hard to locate, unless pay for expensive shipping import from foreign.

weyy.. how come you remembered! tongue.gif As if you knew some development on my side!
Actually I ordered a customised transformer which I will picked up this saturday for my GC project! laugh.gif
Now that the T-Amp project is almost over, time to restart the GC amp project! wink.gif
Anyway this thread at times almost 'died'..

Its the LM3886 chip. Got it from JP would you believe! laugh.gif
Yes. Not toroid. Maybe later I'll upgrade it to toroid if the situation warrants so, pending detailed audition against the T-Amp! biggrin.gif

How much is the LM3886? i search high and low at JP, i think only find 1 or 2 shops selling but expensive. How much the transformer cost u? i guess u custom wind at JP also rite brows.gif

I read that LM3875 also good sound. Use point to point wiring if possible, the shorter the distance the nicer the sound, some claims.

I got it for RM22 each. Its from Darson and I bought the last two! wink.gif
I think there were LM3875 but I can't be sure.
Yes, its custom wind for a 35V centre tap, 150VA.It's half the price of a toroid. I am also planning the tranny for another bench PSU so it's not a waste if I were to get a toroid later.
I may also use point to point.. but since I'm kinda having a hang of making a PCB.. might take that path too.. tongue.gif
