Fresh out of the wrapping paper, I hock up the t-amp to my 6ohm bookshelves speaker and tap on 12V power supply from a spoiled china made DVD player (use that as housing also). My impression is, this little thing can sing, it is clear and crispy. I hock-up my car line driver to it and it sound damn loud and smooth. By the way I haven't mode anything yet.
My plan will be change some capacitors as everyone else did and build a simple line driver (I think something like C-Moy is good enough) for it.

hi all, may i know what cables you use for the tamp internal cables? that connect to volume pot, RCA jacks etc...?

DIY braided CAT5 or just any generic cable as long as it thick enough?

thanks

I use a 'normal' 30A electrical cable for speaker output except the input uses shielded stereo cable.

I would offer "To Each Their Own" as answer.

I am only using the RM0.30 per metre run of AWG-26 multistrands copper wires for internal wiring throughout. Read about my thoughts and rationale behind some of the actions in building my T-amp: Summary of T-amp project, most if not entirely all were expressed in this thread before.

There are several links to some very interesting sites in my said article which is updated from time to time.

cyl1000,
Some of the JP stuffs you can never know when it's gonna failed on you. Due to the 'cheapness' I normally bought extra 1-2 depending on the parts. For spare just in case! tongue.gif So it would be worthwhile then to fork out acquiring the real stuffs eventhough the price is 10X JP prices.. peace of mind for the next 10 years(?).. biggrin.gif

Bro, the super duper casing was bought by a friend in Bangkok and hand carried back to KL. Price? RM300. Don't ask me where he got it, as I have forgotten the place/website. I will try to find out though..
*
mad.gif I'm starting to get used to JP quality. Today I was soldering a toggle switch and the terminal came off even when I solder for less than 2sec! It is so much different when I shop for components there during my college time..

I saw a casing at Nixie...smaller than yours but I guess it should make to look like a decent amp for me to put in the living room smile.gif

In my CDP, I use silver cable for signal tongue.gif Anyway in t-amp, small signal, I use screen cable. speaker and power cable will be 26AWG. IMO, keep the signal cable as short as possible.

Acquiring amplifier chassis seems to be an eternal problem eversince 3 decades ago. Yep, you can get small boxes and only lately, extruded aluminum boxes for small projects. Thats why I had to stand on my head to get my tube amp chassis customed, but at a great price I can't get again. This is also one primary reason I'll not build any SS amp in future. I prefer and expect my own personal desired components acquired easily, no half past six work or a any old chassis for the sake of having one.

Oh, back on audio taper/control/pot, always go for LOG pot, not LINEAR pot since audio is logarithmic dB, a 15dB signal is TWICE louder than a 12dB signal. A linear pot would make the volume sweep exponentially.

Ijan. The trouble is, LOG pots are not easily available at any Jalan Pasar 7-11. You get B types galore. You ask for A Log pots, the counter girl looks at you and think you're speaking French.
Anyway, I've always kept an Alps Blue 100K housed in a small extruded aluminum box as a passive pre standby for whatever personal purpose.

Trouble? What trouble? It works just fine smile.gif

Its not input cap its output caps tongue.gif Without it it sounded more detail, maybe a bit dry but I liked it. But because this T-Amp only have passive volume pots, it sounded too dry, maybe I wanted senior DIY buffer now tongue.gif

gabanyayaya,
I need a few pairs of those too for up n coming projects. Will keep a pair or two for you.. wink.gif Unless you want the 'gold' plated one like Y.C.'s which you know where to get, I am getting mine from this particular shop.. as the others are.. not good enough for me eventhough the price is similar, the quality is not. Such is JP's products... We all know that by now, right? biggrin.gif

I will only handover that buffer when I have a better replacement! Which is coming up next! laugh.gif

Before this thread closed,i have one question about thump noise.

Recently, i have thump noise when switch off. But last night after i replace the input cap to F-Elna type 4.7uF, i have switch on thump noise. So whenever i switch on or off the t-amp, loud noise could be heard even volume pot turned to minimum.

Any remedy?

Speaker output relay like what Jazzy have done. Most AV amps have these relays (including speaker protection circuit) fitted as standard.
