Junchoon, yes, you are most welcome to out t/t session. What about you bringing along your T/T and phono stage?  brows.gif
Pardon me for my 'wild' suggestion; just brush it off as a joke unless you actually do not mind bringing them.  tongue.gif

thanks for welcoming me to the tt...

but i don't have turntable nor phono stage, must have mistaken with someone else

i might bring along some LPs for Jazzy to record, heehee

the Boomtube EX has two bass modules and speakers. but RCA connection lah from amp to speakers like most computer speakers.

cheers,
wps

1st off, thank you YC and Lai, for being such great hosts yesterday! smile.gif

the session was most enlightening, the initial Q-Acoustics sound great. the Heyrooks HB2 however exhibits its vocal prowess well when matched with Lai's T-amp. Jazzy's t-amp is the overall champ, though, with the casing having the added flexibility to tweak to the heart's content. wonder if u have bi-amp already by now.

oh yes, Jazzy, is there an adaptor to replace the RCAs in my Boomtube EX so it can connect to speaker binding posts? provided i can open the casing and switch off the Boomtube's bass modules? i can turn the bass volume down, but not sure if the internal circuirty have any filter to bypass the high and low frequency.

Thanks for the usage of your superb HB2 and the stands..
Too bad you missed one of the best 'mee goreng mamak' in SJ tongue.gif
Yes. Many thanks to Y.C for the venue, drinks n 'makan' and hospitality.. rclxms.gif

Waiting for Y.C to say something.. wink.gif

if u guys have the time tomorrow, would u like to come to my place for another T-amp TT? it's in Putra Heights. there are at least three rooms for u guys to play around, and two sets of Floorstands (Epos M16 and Yamaha NS-555) and two bookshelves (Yamaha NS-333 and Sony mini compo speakers). also one Yamaha AVR and DIY pre+power amps to compare.

would be great if u guys are free to come. drinks and TT will be on me. smile.gif

i suggested tomorrow is because i will be busy after that. i will be in penang from next friday onwards, coming back only on nov 9th. also because my wife is not around haahaa... smile.gif

cheers,
wps

junchoon, it was nice to have met you for the first time yesterday. I'm sure jazzy can make that adapter for you. QED.

As for opening the casing and turning off the power to the center unit bass modules, I'm not so sure its a good idea. Why? Because you'll be killing one of the best features of the Boomtube EX...it was concept designed to be used as a portable system, and I would say after listening to it, it does that job very well.

However, if it were up to me.....(beware, wild idea coming up): if I really had to open it up for modding, I'd add a mini-jack socket, routing the feed to the bass modules to it first, so that I can hook it up to an external subwoofer! This way, I can easily cut off the signal to the bass modules by plugging in a jack, or leave the internal bass modules active by simply not inserting anything.

i am under the assumption that it is "VERY" easy to mod with all the sifus around here to help, haahaa smile.gif

thanks for the upload, Jazzy.

1st off, thanks for those who drop by: Jazzy and his son; Wui, March05 and a surprise visit by BSL. the latter brought his commercial tube pre-amp (Soundstage).

here goes:

wui's t-amp is well balanced, should be best for people with varied tastes in music. the Zhaolu review i will let him do it. smile.gif

bsl's tube-pre is great for vocal. when paired with wui or Jazzy t-amp can really bring out the the mellowness and sweetness of the female vocals. like most tube pre-amp, not really a rocker.

Jazzy t-amp (it is a power amp) is able to drive the M16 floorstands well. the yamaha floorstands were rather temparament and bring out its weakness of power hungry drivers.

compared with my friend's pre+po, the t-amps are cleaner sounding. one of the members mentioned this is the signature sound of T-Amp. but i would not say for sure whether i prefer this T-Amp sound over my friend's pre+po - i reckon the pre+po might be more suitable for long listening session. t-amp provide a lot of attention grabbing sound, might zap my energy or cause listening fatigue over-time.

i will let the others fill the gaps on my review. smile.gif

cheers,
wps

wui223, let me get back to this old post...

QUOTE(wui223 @ Oct 27 2008, 09:51 PM)
Another thing to mention is the speakers of our host, junchoon. What i can say is: Size does matter. Being exposed to small speakers all the time, a listening to floorstanders is another ear opening experience.

For the source, nothing much to say as both players perform well. Except the track jumping in the Pioneer. Not to forget the mystery of ROCK music in the hall, sound is weird and kinda lo-fi. Thats something left to be solved.

Another spectacular stuff is the DIY amp of junchoon's friend. Interested to know more about the internal of that beauty, the external looks superb of course. The sound: well, review is responsible of sifus smile.gif
*
if u r still in the hunt for a pair of DIY floorstanders, look for TJL2W by Troels Gravesen. u might get the parts from Singapore for about SGD1000 to SGD1100, minus the speaker cabinets. not sure if u can find the parts locally or not. reportedly better sounding than ProAc Response 2.5 clone. i have to stress that the real cost is to find a good carpenter to work on the cabinets. can go upwards of rm500 per pair on building the cabinets. parts+cabinets may cost more than Epos M16. check this out:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/782874/+20

the Pioneer changer i got not too long ago, dissapointed with the skipping lah. the ROCK music problem i believe should be the source CD lah - the pressing is rather old. tried the remastered led zep, no problem, at least to my ears, heehee...

i am not sure the internal of my friend's DIY pre+po amps, it's his side project he do for fun/experiment. a well balanced pair, can tame the M16 in most instances. his actual system will definitely make u think the m16+pre+po is child's play, haahaa...

cheers,
wps

junchoon: Thanks for the info. If i got the budget, i would rather go for ready built speakers, DIY them is too much hassle. Unless i got a well equiped workshop in house.

bsl555: I saw some good review of using battery to run tripath amp online. Right now dont have any battery in hand, unless i took the one from my smalll car smile.gif
*
wui223: i don't think u will actually be dissapointed with the sound from TJL2W - it will suit someone who has a small room. with the money u save by using t-amps, u should spend the money on a good pair of speakers.

the Boomtube EX is using battery to power the T-amps. but not sure what battery it uses lah... could not open the Boomtube EX at all, as it uses a strange set of nuts - the side it's like a semi-circle mashed with a trapezoid. and in the middle of the nut there is a hole.

bsl555: when should i return the pre-amp?? it's either tomorrow or next week after 9th nov liao. have yet to listen to it with my friend's power amp.

cheers,
wps

For that price tag, looks like i need to save for years with my current income status  sweat.gif
Curious about the sound of bsl555 tubey setup  biggrin.gif

Due to space constaint, i cant experience the best out of my system yet. I usually use PC, and the speakers too close to me, about 2 feet.
*
space constraint?? then should consider near-field monitors. try Yamaha MSP7 (supposingly the successor to NS-10) active speakers. usually on offer at 10% off from RRP of RM5600 per pair. really good speakers, transparent without losing the punch. too bad u can't use t-amp on them. if u have XLR outputs from yr PC, then even better match. smile.gif
