hey guys,

Any tried MG PlastX (Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish) to restore the headlamps, taillights??

Where to buy sand paper? how to differentiate type/abrasiveness of sand paper? I plan to restore a 30monts old wira and 6years old kancil headlamps, tailights, signal, and speedometer plastic.

Anyone done it before, restoring plastic...this is something new to me. hmm...

never tried plastX some say good some say useless. Sandpaper comes with different number ratings, the smaller the number the rough it is. IMHO, if you use this method. Your headlamp plastic now will thinner than before and it is prone to crack.

I see. thanks!

Finally decided to go for cheaper and safer way to restore a 6years++old Kancil headlamps using AUTOSOL metal polish cream. The yellowish stain is now gone, however there's stone chips which cannot be removed.

I would give 6.5-7 out of 10 if you ask me how's the result using AUTOSOL. laugh.gif

Added on November 21, 2007, 10:08 pmAnyone know where to buy Meguiars Pro ranges of products in Penang?? I can't find, even on their website..MG Malaysia only carry consumer products sweat.gif doh.gif

I am interested to get M83 32oz anbd M07 16oz ..

Got, Gurney Plaza Parkson. I went on Thursday evening, there have less than 15 consumer products on the shelf...End up go to Midlands 1-StopAuthenticCar and bought Endurance High Gloss tire gel, the tyre looks "Over shine"...looks abit fake but i like the end result.

However, both shop do not carry Pro ranges of products.

Detailing help.....

Just got my car repainted and as expected...orange peel effect was evident. I was told to polish the car again once the paint settles down a month later. Will that really do?

PlastX does work but why would you need it on a new car? The headlight covers are not scratched yet. I did a good polish on my old 2001 headlights and the results were fantastic.

Nice headlights, using machine or by hand? Nice ride too smile.gif

Had a chance to "restore" a 6years old headlamp Kancil today using PlasTX. It remove the yellowish and rough surface easily, i go over several times..hand rubbing for 6-7times in 5minutes.

Seems like the Kancil not only went thru a simple headlamps restoration... U did a full detailing on it?

edit--encountered error, this board doesn't allow too many images uploaded.

rclxub.gif I have long message to post but wasn't allowed cool2.gif

Redit my message as below

u use sponge or microfiber to rub?
At first, i use Applicator pad and rub gentlely, it doesn't work as what i expected. Dump away the applicator pad, pick up an old cloth, start to rub it very hard, lots of hand pressure.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...plicatorpad.jpg
This piece of cloth + lots of hand pressue..force works better tongue.gif tongue.gif
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/oldcloth.jpg

The Kancil older type headlamps have vertical and horizontal line include label on plastic surface. However, if ur car is newer type, smooth plastic..using applicator pad + microfiber works better. Because the Cloth that i used mayc caused the plastic more prone to swirl marks.. sad.gif

____________________________________________________________________

Seems like the Kancil not only went thru a simple headlamps restoration... U did a full detailing on it?

You got Sharp Eyes..Bingo, correct. How u differentiate, the images white balance and contrast not so same..
But Not full detailing, only bonnet, side fender, headlamps, others are left untouched. No time..

Some intro on this SLK, no proper paint cleaning+polishing after years of driving. 4months ago, i did polish it using DC2 polish + NXT Tech Wax. End results no good, yellowish stain, bird shit etching still Visible, this time i went trough proper surface preparation, no rush.

____________________________________________________________________________________

How i did mine

Step1:
Wash using Deep paint cleaner + car shampoo

______________________

Step2: Clay the whole car
Material: Claybar + car shampoo left mix with lots of water. Cut the claybar into 3pieces, it is more than enough for Kancil size..
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/clay1.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/clay2.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/clay3.jpg

_______________________

Step3:Clean using paint cleaner
Material: Paint Cleaner + Applicator Pad + Microfiber towel
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...aintCleaner.jpg

_______________________

Step4: Polish
Material: DC2 Polish + Applicator Pad + Microfiber towel
Noted that the tree..bird or whatever sh1t is gone after 4-5pass of polishing. At this stage, the paint looks clean, no yellowish, surface is smooth.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...g/DC2Polish.jpg

______________________

Step5: Wash and rinse dry
Materal: same as Step1

_______________________

Step6:
Wax two thin coats
Material: Carnauba wax + Applicator Pad + Microfiber towel
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...CarnaubaWax.jpg
_________________________

The results on bonnet + side fender.
Noted: the picture white balance isn't accurate because shot under cloudy day, shade under tree and inside car porch.
Somemore i don't have wide lens...composition no good..

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/bonnet.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/bonnet.jpg

How the Claybar looks like after picking up oily Tar n dirt
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/claybar5.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/ralfpg/claybar5.jpg
____________________________________________________________
To be continue...continue later, lots of work to do..going through each panel by panel, no rush.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r.../driverdoor.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...handlestain.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff147/r...handlestain.jpg

What to do next, interior vinly/plastic care include dashboard..etc, exterior part include plastic bumper, side skirt, door handle and side mirror....need some dressed up, turn the whiteish fade plastic into Black look.
Tyre care!!..i like this the most, using endurance high gloss tire gel

After this, what next, do some comparision, NXT vs M21 sealant on Black metallic paint
