I have Sony DSC-H3. I'm planning for a backup camera. I'm a noob in photography

Is this LX-3 a overkill for me?

Is LX-3 better than Sony DSC-H3 (put aside the optical zoom difference)?

I like auto mode all the way, is LX-3 auto mode good at indoor shooting?

1. LX3 F=2.0, indoor shooting is excellent, especially low light condition
2. Intelli Auto (Panny Venus Engine iV), smart auto function
3. ultra wide angle: 24mm
4. 1cm macro
5. HD movie recording
6. Raw format
7. Full manual functions
8. Optional accessories add-on, filters, tele lens, wide lens, etc

conclusion: all the posters here made a right choice!!
king of P&S cameras, 2008

good stepping stone before you go dSLR

Hi Guys, i just back from my honeymoon bangkok, too bad my LX3 are still with the Pana, i borrowed my friend's Sony T70 (like begging him) but the picture came out not like what i want, so sad that my main purpose of purchasing this camera was crash.

QUOTE(daruma @ Oct 23 2008, 04:36 PM)
screw them la... water at most short circuit the chip.
what the hell change the lens for  doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif

maybe u take back and try the "rice rescue method"  sweat.gif

http://ageekspot.wordpress.com/2008/03/29/...-to-the-rescue/

i dun think there big damage on the cam.
lens still come out, preview still works.
u still get image preview when in shooting mode rite?
u can try set to manual focus.
try the little focus button beside the shutter. see if the focusing and exposure things still works.

if all works . it's just the damn shutter button faulty doh.gif
*
yeala, i don't know why they need to repair the lens, i already sent an email to enquiry la, hopefully they can waive it la,

I can preview 1 picture only, means when i press left or right, it is not moving,
Can't even manual focus

QUOTE(SeeD @ Oct 23 2008, 05:29 PM)
What the ... you can't even take pictures under some rain ??

You sure your mom said only a little bit of rain ? Because I've been using my Olympus for quite many times under the rain. Nothing happens ..
*
My mom said it so sure la, but i am sure also as my mom's friend tell the same thing also.
My last olympus also don't have any problem for 5 years even in raining condition. but i request for good photo, and semi-pro...... thats why we all purchase this.

is LX3 so sensitive to water ?
i plan to get this camera so that i can take nice lighting shots during heavy rain
*
if you planned that.... i will suggest you double think, or do something to protect the LX3.
i think even normal DSLR are not so sensitive.

QUOTE(SeeD @ Oct 23 2008, 05:47 PM)
XD Ok now we are getting people questioning about LX3's defense against the environment ...
*
It is not offending anyway, if you give me one more chance, i will buy the LX3 again, But the thread is to let people know how to fully use the camera and avoid something unlucky happen.... (thats me cry.gif )

I"m very interested in LX3, FX38 or TZ215. saw them all at Harvey Norman's promo in Pyramid the other day.

the price for LX3 is RM1799 though. pricey?

I'll be buying my 1st camera ever. so advice's really appreciated.

eih... i noe LX3 is great n fun la.

but.... i personally feel that investments(by buying extra lens, caps n adapters) not tat worth it lo.
although i noe can get cheap from ebay.

but count count.... n see..
LX3 rm1600 + further investments in caps, lens, adapters = dslr price

investment in dslr lens cannot compare with this la.
not that i say cannot invest.
but i think shud keep it minimal.

i learn tis frm working at cam shops.
selling those lens, adapters, filters, etc......

Added on October 28, 2008, 10:58 pmanyway... 3838 a bit tongue.gif

Right, it looks like a mini-dslr to me.. smile.gif
Do the filters degrade the quality of the photos?.
Cheers

it depends....
ther are different filters for different functions let say poloroid or UV filters n so on....

if u use poloroid during the nite... guess wat happens biggrin.gif

practically, it shud enchance the quality of the pic n enchance the capability of the cam to take pics during different situations.

pros, correct me if im wrong.

Added on October 29, 2008, 3:32 amlol-ed. not a mini-dslr la.

its a classed as a compact camera but semi-pro functions smile.gif
still... able to produce godlike pics comparable with dslr

and.. dslr lens investment.. i can't afford it... haa

it adds more fun to lx3, more effects... im lazy to edit it in photoshop...
and guess what, i got a new filter.... sepia/vintage filter.. im surprise that lx3 dont have it..! (even my se k750i has it.. haha)

and i hv tried the palarizer filter.. it's awesome! gonna post it tonight..

that's 3.0x tele and wide angle...

how much u get all these in total? plan to get filters, adaptor & lens cap.
I owned a silver lx3 and i don want to attach it with black accessories.. hahaha.. looks so weird sweat.gif

I'm stuck between this two
LX3 vs FZ28

Put aside Optical Zoom and The Size

Which is better in terms of Image quality and types of photo shots that can be done with it.

Getting headache choosing smile.gif

LX3 wins alot ler.

bigger sensor in LX3, means lower noise.
and bigger apperture lets u shoot at lower ISO.
