I have Sony DSC-H3. I'm planning for a backup camera. I'm a noob in photography

Is this LX-3 a overkill for me?

Is LX-3 better than Sony DSC-H3 (put aside the optical zoom difference)?

I like auto mode all the way, is LX-3 auto mode good at indoor shooting?

I'm stuck between this two
LX3 vs FZ28

Put aside Optical Zoom and The Size

Which is better in terms of Image quality and types of photo shots that can be done with it.

Getting headache choosing smile.gif

I went to try LX3 at Jusco today. Quite good.

My question:-

1) The lens is widescreen. So if snap human portrait, wouldn't it look long?

2) The price in Jusco and Harvey is RM1699 with 4GB + Pouch + Screen Protector (not cover fully). 0% credit card charge. Harvey can installment 0% for 9 months. Is this expensive?

3) I want/plan to buy tomorrow. Which shop can get cheaper without credit card charge and with stock for black?

4) Which shop can get the full screen protector for LCD

5) Which shop can get the screen protector for Lens

So hard to find in LowYat, Sg Wang and Times Square. I walked like nearly all the camera shops. All no stock but I finally managed to get it smile.gif

LX3 Silver colour + 4GB + Screen Protector (Full) + Lens Filter (sticker) + Pouch + Extra original battery

I was lucky to find a good shop. Pricing and all the accessories are at very amazing price. The sales person is very honest. I can say I've never seen such open system when buying things. He was so honest that he even told/showed me cost. His markup is very fair

Guys if you want good service. Go try this shop. Highly recommended. 1 of a kind smile.gif

Unfortunately LX3 really ran out of stock. So better call him first before going.

CamWorld (Sg Wang) - Alan (012-5771505)

PS. I'm not associated with CamWorld or Alan. I'm just impressed with the price and service. Really beat all the shops I've entered today

All the price tag there are meant for foreigners or people with 'yong sui' face smile.gif

Otherwise, Alan is a nice guy that will offer immediate discount

His price is definitely cheapest among all the shops (around 10+) I've visited today. His accessories is definitely much much lower. His reason, he don't markup a lot. He aims volume

Guys, I'm quite new to all these... Is my below explanation correct?

ISO (Lighting)
-The lower the number the darker it is.
-The higher the number the brighter it is but noiser.

Shuttle (Freezing)
-The lower the number the brighter it is cause shuttle close faster. Close faster can also mean image freeze. Faster Shuttle.
-The higher the number the darker it is cause shuttle close slower. Close slower can also mean image blurry. Slower Shuttle.

Aperture (Sharpness)
-The lower the number the blurer focus on the background.
-The higher the number the sharper focus on the background.

QUOTE(PCHo @ Oct 31 2008, 10:45 PM)
U r right about ISO in general, but wrong about "Shutter speed" (not shuttle, a shuttle goes to space  tongue.gif ) and Aperture.

Shutter speed is how long your "shutter" (flaps that close and open to let light into the camera sensor) opens and therefore determines the amount of light that comes into the camera. A fast shutter speed (smaller number, i.e. 1/2000s) can freeze action, but lets in much less light compared to a slower shutter speed.

Aperture on the other hand, is the size of the opening of ur shutter. A bigger aperture (e.g. f/2.0) lets in more light per second compared to a smaller aperture (e.g. f/8.0). And in terms of camera and lens effects, aperture controls "Depth of field" (DOF), which determines how blurry "out of focus" stuff are in ur shot. Whether the background is blur or the foreground is not determined by aperture, but by your "focus distance". Remember that u can blur the foreground and background and keep only the mid range sharp and focused.

So shutter speeds, ISO & aperture are all related to each other in terms of "exposure".
Each having it's own weaknesses and strengths when used.
Increasing ISO increases ur exposure, but adds noise.
Decreasing shutter speed increases exposure, but chances of blurred shots are higher.
Increaing aperture increases exposure, but reduces DOF.

Depending on ur style and the effects u want, u will have to play around balancing all 3 to find ur perfect setting.
Hope my noob comments help!

Just came back from Taiwan. Here are some photos taken with LX3 using iA mode.

Photos are touched up using PHOTOfunSTUDIO -viewer-. Not sure whether I overdo it. Comments are welcome

I'm using the above lens protector for my LX3. I have snap quite a bit. I dont think it has caused any difference to my eyes. The advantage... I can wipe the lens easily when snapping at oily places (food / restaurant). Price: RM40

PS: Photo not taken with LX3

The thing is plastic?  The 1's I saw were much much much better. Aluminum ring with glass element. The aluminum ring sticks onto the part that says Leica Summicron.

ya. looks like plastic but good quality and thick

how to stick it on ? glue ka?  sweat.gif

does it stick to the lens surface?

The lens filter fits nicely on the lens. You wouldn't know it is there.

Of course no glue. It's something like screen protector
