bros,

I'm wondering for fridges with bottom freezer, is it any different? I've never used 1 but I always felt that it is not so convenient? It feels like you have to stack all your meets vertically than place them horizontally. Plus, there is no door compartment to place bottles or in my case freeze paks.

Is it any different?

Since cold air is more dense than hot air, a bottom freezer ll still allow the cold air stays at the bottom as u pull out the freezer drawer, hence the compressor won't have to work so hard again to cool the freezer (because much less cold air escaped compared to top freezer), so more energy saving in theory.

i was told Mistubishi makes very good fridges and airconditioners. Our Panasonic fridge broke down three times in three years. Funny creaking sounds coming from the back!
Instead of repairing the inverter motor I think to throw this one and get a new Mitsubishi. What do you guys think?

According to my research generally top freezer is the most energy efficient and the french door side by side is the worse. Go to Singapore NEA website they have tested most fridge under the same standard so you can compare them apple to apple. The bigger the fridge usually the more energy they consume. But if you use the annual energy consumption divide by the volume the less the better. Overall Hitachi is the best in efficiency.

many thanks for the very useful link above! biggrin.gif

In theory, having a bottom freezer helps lower the energy consumption (due to the fact that cold air stays at the bottom), but that's jus part of the equation to have the most energy efficient refrigerator. The placement of the compressor, heat insulation etc r other factors to consider..

Pls take a closer look at the sheet below, the top 10 efficient model from Hitachi includes all sort of freezer arrangement lol, surprisingly 5 out of the top 10 are french door side-by-side model.

Thanks for the info! Ya I oledy compared this Hitachi model with Mitsubishi MR-C46E, my findings as below:

1) Mitsu also comes with foldable shelf for taller item (see pics).
2) The net capacity of mitsu is slightly bigger, 304L versus Hitachi 294L
3) Annual energy consumption measured by Singapore ELS is 544kWh versus Hitachi 423, if calculated based on average 35cents per kWh tariff, mitsu model yearly electricity charges is Rm42 more than Hitachi.
4) Mitsu model comes with two color, pearl effect white or black, Hitachi only black color available..
5) Mitsu has their in-house technician to inspect n fix ur fridge, wherea Hitachi only relies on Subcontractor to follow up aftersales service. I had very bad experience with their aftersales service.
6) Mitsu charges rm75 inspection fee after warranty period, wherea Hitachi charges rm85.
7) According to feedbacks from Hitachi subcontractor, the Hitachi fridge control unit circuit board has high failure rate after few years, replacement cost more than 500rm. This also depends on individual luck of course.
8) Info from Harvey staff is that Mitsu model above is using Panasonic compressor.

So in the end, if prefer the pearl white mitsu to match ur home interior, then can consider it. If glass glossy black u may consider the Hitachi also, but pls be informed of the points above.

Yesterday the Hitachi model above best price I got from Harvey sunway was RM2499. Where to get RM2.2k pls share Ya haha.

after going through many rounds of research, finally made my puchase on Beko's side by side fridge in Happy SS2. The price offered there is easily the cheapest after surveying the usual outlets recommended in this forum.

with Energy class of A+ and a nett volume of 560 litres, it fits my buying criteria. hopefully the fridge will give as much satisfaction to their satisfied users in Europe to the new users here in Msia...

I am using R-V750PM, not X (X is stainless steel door maybe RM300-400 more expensive).
So far so good, used bout 1.5KW electric per day for 3 out of 5 energy bar.

But I think when the fridge pick up the motor is quite loud seriously, but maybe just for 10-15mins.
and then it looks OK later on.

Just bought a fridge - Panasonic NR-BW415VN from Jintex Seapark. Best price so far after going to quite a number. Love the bottom freezer concept - less icecream and more vege cuz dont want to bend down so much!

Hope it serves me well for the next 15 years at least...
