Realized that not many people are considering fisher & paykel
it has a spacious interior and looks sleek.

See our kitchen/ fridge here

Fisher & Paykel sounds like it could be really expensive. I'm guessing it doesn't have an inverter in it? How much was yours?

panasonice 602, but more than your budget

It's a bit larger than 400 liters!

Now I'm thinking of renovating my kitchen instead and holding off on buying the fridge just yet. Weird how one thing leads to the next rolleyes.gif

Regarding the Panasonic inverter models, would the bottom freezer be too much of a compromise? I'm used to using top freezers -- I don't want to regret getting something which wouldn't be optimal for me. My usage of the freezer is for a lot of meat and bones (I eat a caveman-style diet).

I liked the look of the Bosch top freezer I saw some pages previous -- someone said it is quite solid. No inverter though.

Previously I had the same preferences as yours... top freezers... but after made some thinking, I plan to get Panasonic Inverter 602L which bottom freezer... I don't care much since most of the time I am only open the big door... and rarely open freezers, so it's easier to get drinks or food while standing without the need of squat or lower down from normal fridge.

and it's easier for my kids to get their ice cream since the freezer at bottom. biggrin.gif

Don't know why but the top freezer bosch is quite a lot cheaper than the bottom freezer version. It's basically the same fridge. Anyway I was planning to get the Bosch bottom freezer but might go for Hitachi's inverter instead.

Forgive me but I'd consider that a bad thing! Ice cream has too much sugar!

Yeah I'm wondering too. I saw the top freezer Bosch at Harvey Norman for 2300. I like the build quality. Any problems for this model or Bosch in general? Hitachi fridges also look really sturdy. Although I think the inverter models are only for the bigger capacities? I've only seen the 750 model which is HUGE!

I think the Panasonic bottom freezer has issues with the fridge door -- it may sag with time due to the hinges not sturdy enough to support it's weight.

The hitachi I'm looking at has inverter and it's small - only 365L. Solfege R-SG37BPM
Here are some inverters below 500L

Thanks for the links man.

I have not seen that 3-door Hitachi at the showrooms I've visited, what's the price like?

Also, does anyone know where the Bosch fridges (particularly the top freezer model -- I have a feeling they are phasing it out -- explains the price difference) are manufactured?

Which 3 doors? All 3 also got three doors biggrin.gif
The SG37BPM lowest so far is at Rm2200 but I've never seen it before in anywhere but it is available.
I like this model as it has automatic ice maker. No ice cube trays needed

The two with French doors can be seen at HN.
R-WB490P2M is Rm2850 at HN
But the silver one is Rm2500
R-WB560P2M is around Rm3200

Not sure where are the Bosch manufactured. Somebody mentioned Turkey. Somebody bought this model. Look back some of the post.

Let us know if you find it around, I'd definitely want to take a look at it. Capacity-wise you will be paying premium price though.

I've been avoiding the cupboard-style fridges. They seem too fancy to me. The prices don't seem too outrageous though.

Yep saw that, but no idea whether they'd bought it or not. I read a thread on an Aussie forum earlier. They mentioned that the SXS Bosch's are designed and manufactured by Daewoo in Korea. There was some deal that happened some time ago. Let me bring it up here:

QUOTE
February 08, 2006

Daewoo Electronics Corp. announces tuesday it has entered a strategic partnership to supply refrigerators to German home appliance manufacturer BSH (Bosch-Siemens Hausgerate GmbH).

Under the $300 million deal, Daewoo Electronics will supply at least 100,000 side-by-side refrigerator units annually to Bosch-Siemens for three years, starting from this year.

More than 350,000 units will be exported to Italy, Germany, Britain, the United States and Austrailia over the three years, the company said.

Daewoo Electronics will be involved in the overall process of designing, developing, marketing and selling the products, even though products will be sold under its German partner's brand name, the company said
http://www.dwe.co.kr/english/pr/corporaten...view.asp?seq=29
But it mentions only SXS and not the other models, no idea what their doing now since that was a long time ago. Saw another news article (2012) about Bosch and Electrolux bidding for Daewoo in S. Korea:

QUOTE
May 31 (Reuters) - Electrolux and Bosch are among five companies planning initial bids of $250 million or more for South Korea's electronics maker Daewoo Electronics, local media reported on Thursday.

Bids are expected to reach 300 billion Korean won to as much as 450 billion Korean won ($255 million to $382.6 million), depending on whether Daewoo's unused factory in the South Korean city of Incheon is included in the sale, according to the Maeil Business Newspaper.

Daewoo's leading creditor Woori Bank told Reuters the scale of the deal has yet to be decided, but will be cemented before final bidding takes place as soon as mid-July.

Electrolux had made an unsuccessful bid for Daewoo Electronics last year.

This is the creditors' sixth attempt to sell Daewoo Electronics, which focuses primarily on washing machines and refrigerators.

Electrolux declined to comment but confirmed its continued interest in Daewoo Electronics.

The hitachi French door design is good, it has a bar that flips up so the other door can sit nicely on it unlike Sharp which doesn't have this middle bar.

For the bosch, yup he bought one, PM to ask him

My chef researched many models and brands and decided on Panasonic inverter 602L. The reasons being:
1. energy 5 star rating.
2. The chef open the fridge door 5 x more frequent than freezer door, thus prefer upper fridge and lower freezer.
3. The vege box is at the middle, no need bending back,
4. The freezer has only one drawer and no partition, can top loading large single item without the hassle of cutting it to smaller pcs.

I have check this 2 kind of middle bar design. Most of the fridge using middle bar while only Sharp is using magnetic rubber seal. I feel the middle bar have a better seal than the magnetic rubber.

In long run, Not sure the rubber seal will get hard and won't seal it properly. Than the cool air leak out.

For the middle bar, not sure the mechanical can last. Specially when slamming the door close. I have seen some demo fridge in the shop where the middle bar cannot flip anymore.
