I love this movie, and I greatly prefer this movie over Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The story takes place immediately after The Force Awakens, so this movie almost acts like Part 2 or some sorts to The Force Awakens movie.

The good stuffs

- Excellent space battles.
- Mark Hamill is awesome as Luke Skywalker.
- Good performances by returning characters like Poe and Finn.
- Kylo Ren is a flawed, yet excellent recurring villain so far.
- Good new characters like Holdo, Rose, and the "code breaker".
- Great music by John Williams and the orchestra.
- Excellent CGI.

The bad stuffs

- Many unnecessary subplots that do not mean anything.
- Disappointing Snoke's role.
- Disappointing Rey's origins reveal.
- No mention of the Knights of Ren.
- Extreme Mary Sue traits of Rey.
- Lack of lightsaber battles.
- Lack of Captain Phasma battles.

This movie took some risk, and it largely paid off. I give the movie a rating of 8.5/10.

My current Star Wars movies' ratings:

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - 6.5/10
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - 5.0/10
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - 8.5/10
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - 10/10
Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back - 10/10
Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of Jedi - 8.0/10
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens - 8.0/10
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi - 8.5/10
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - 8.0/10

Just rewatched Star Wars in Imax 3D, not sure if there is much difference compare to the 2D version, maybe the Imax sound is better....

I used to like Episode I a lot, but changed my opinion a lot once I rewatched the movie recently. Personally, Episode II is the weakest movie in Star Wars series so far, and I really enjoy watching Episode III a lot due to the story, the darker tone, the rise of Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine's character.

Probably the Resistance do not have enough ships and people to fight the First Order. I think the Resistance are outnumbered since TFA.

I rank The Last Jedi down there among the second trilogy. this one felt strange. no star wars feel. this one is made for a new generation of fan.

The 3d conversion was very good here - just about one of the few things great about TLJ..
quite a few deal breakers (for me) the way some things are handled sprinkled across the movie.

Some stuff from TFA had no followup here - the way the story is going - its probably to ensure a neverending stream of movies to be made.

Wow.

Just.

Exceeded my expectations.

Way, way better than TFA.

Quite possibly the most fun Star Wars film since the original trilogy! biggrin.gif

Yes, you guys are right on certain gripes (e.g. Captain Phasma, Admiral Ackbar, Snoke)...

But that's the story. That's how it is... I mean, either you love the direction of the story or you don't. innocent.gif

Rey's origin - - - you guys seriously believe that? I still think there's a lot more to it.

I was ready to see Obi-Wan Kenobi's face at that scene... laugh.gif

Honestly, I was prepared to say Rogue One / TFA would be better than TLJ.

Nope.

TLJ is better than Rogue One / TFA.

That battle at Snoke's chamberr. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Watched on IMAX 3D.

Will be watching it again on D-Box!!

Honestly, I feel like I'll never be able to watch the original trilogy the way I used to. (Especially Ep. 6). I mean, Han and Luke died, failures, never really having achived much. The whole "the Empire has been defeated" thing is not real. They come back stronger and almost kill everyone in the movie.

Seriously, I don't really care that much about the next episode anymore. Even the holy trinity (Luke, Leia, Han), which are still the best parts of the series are gone. So, that's the end of Star Wars I guess.

I thought for a split second when Luke dies, they show Leia and Rey feeling it and there was a shadow of Vader helmet behind Rey. I could be wrong and imagining things.

- Rey's heritage STILL NOT CONFIRMED
- Kylo Ren's rise to power
- ...and let's not forget, who is that kid with the force at the end?? Rey's younger brother that she doesn't know? shocking.gif

Passing the baton to the new generation la... can't expect Luke/Leia/Han's characters to stick around for long. We should be super grateful they actually agreed to return for this sequel trilogy laugh.gif The way I see it... Han's death and Luke's end were well handled... Han being beaten by his own son, holding Ben's face in a one-last-father-son-moment while Luke, at peace with himself and did a 'Yoda' disappearing act in what is possibly the most bad-ass Jedi "stunt".

I am the complete opposite... I can't friggin wait for the next episode! biggrin.gif

Grew up along with the original trilogy (1st exposure to SW - saw EP5-ESB in 1982 when I was 8) I feel the same. The unfortunate thing is Lucas could have rounded up most of the OT cast around the time he made the prequels - probably with stories that didn't have to revolve their children and the consequences of their bad parenting.

But he didn't and time flew by - and with the current age of the trinity of actors - this is what they have to do by wiping the slate and prepare a springboard for a new non-skywalker trilogy and even more stories.

Looking back I always assumed (as a 10 year old - after having watched ROTJ) everything would better (evil is defeated etc) - if you look at Star Wars from an escapism fantasy point of view.
These new developments totally trash all of that - and it bugs me quite a bit. Lets see, after EP 6 ROTJ - Han & Leia are bad parents who toss off their son to his uncle Luke. Luke contemplates the murder of his nephew - because "Minority Report"/baby-Hitler conundrum - hes going to be BAAAD.

Sure its dramatic and makes for new motivations - but these extensions feel so odd - almost like they want some essence of "George R Martin song of ice and fire" into the mix.

And Rey - ignoring Kylo's bit about having nobody-parents - "Who are you" / "Who ARE you?" (Mark Hamill's delivery of these lines are superb - very sly and telling). The tease continues - i suspect a resolution may not be offered in EP9 - if anything, it can be milked for another set of multimedia coming your way (comics, spin-off movies, games, etc). Or maybe shes just like Anakin - birthed via force and midichlorians?

For all the accusations that JJ Abrams gets for lack of originality in TFA, at least it was better made (another poster mentioned it was more cohesive - which I agree). TLJ feels too much like a 'star wars story' kind of movie to earn an episode number in a SW trilogy.

A few parts of TLJ was enjoyable but I'm scratching my had at all the praise for this... it doesn't compare at all to Empire Strikes back - which was very much the result of having the right people at the right time - they struck magic with that combination of people behind the scenes.

Even though lacking enthusiasm for EP9 - I'm curious how JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio will tie it all together.

But still, the porgs were great and will go well with mash potatoes and a salad.

Exact same feeling and thought and I also think tfa is better made. Tlj might have some good moments but I am bewildered at the high rating some people gave.... Many plots also feel there are there just so they can have the sequence next....
I am also annoyed by the editing that jumps between the ship escape and achto... Too short scenes in between that make me feel disconnected.... Anyone feels Rey character development is close to zero?
