I love the movie. I love Empire Strikes Back but I don't see much ESB in TLJ compared to A New Hope in TFA.

A couple of times I thought the movie is going to end but then comes the twist to change the course of the movie. Then another twist. Holly shit.

the new characters are great but didn't add much to the story when you think about it again.

anyway, apart from these, I think the movie is good. but nowhere near ANH or ESB good. it's thrilling and it got me on the edge of my seat as well.

ah.......

TLJ, what can i say.

movie is too long.
draggy in some spots.

the built-up to climax and the pay off ratio is a bit mismatch.
there were moments of brilliance but some are too WTF!

the trailer did a great job to intentionally misguide you on some sections.

the good:
i think the actor playing kylo improved by leaps and bounds from the previous installment.
some climax build up was really good.
i thought rose character was pretty good

set up scenes and background were fantastic. beside the island, the final fight scene landscape is brilliant with its colour.

the bad:
i still can't shake off those WTF moments

i guess for star wars devotee, they may be disappointed.
but for a normal flick it was okay.

but still, the movie was too long for its own good.

TLJ seemed to be hijacked by SJW agenda. Its not as fun as the previous movie. Cringe level super high. puke.gif

1) Awkward chinese cast (so obvious they want chinese market). At least the cast from Rogue1 make sense.
2) Empowerment of female leadership while consistently making a point its the white caucasian male who makes poor rash decision
3) Forced relationship triangle that involve chinese-blacks-caucasian, so cringy

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

The weakest part of the movie is the casino scene. Felt like it was there in the later production just to fit in that out of place chinese cast.
IMO that scene can be cut the and the movie can move on smoothly.

Seems like Disney just shat on my childhood heroes and bought this thing from Lucas to bastardize it and milk as much cash possible.

Believe the movie has a very divisive story arcs. There are more questions than answers. Not all narrative risks payoff in a satisfying manner but appreciate the gesture to spice things up a bit. Just felt Rian Johnson wanted the cake and eat it too.

Hands down you get your money worthwhile in some of the battle scene and spectacular iconic scene you can remember for a long time to come. It's not any better or worse than Rogue One but certainly miles ahead of TFA.
At this point just no longer pump to see EIX as sceptical they can pull off an effective Kylo vs Rey angle. Maybe I'm the minority here, Rey's Mary Sue characterization getting really old and honestly no longer care what's the reason behind it even with "i'm your father" twist down the road.

Glad Mark Hamill given another shot to play Luke in a big way and mvp is General Hux for me. The rest shine in some areas but flat in others. A bit unbalanced and for sure they can tighten the runtime to make everything leaner.

Do hope the newly announced trilogy spearheaded by Rian Johnson able to break more new ground with a tighter focus. Hands down he upstaged the production value and the best looking Star Wars to date. It"s safe to say in regardless whether you hate or like this sequel it's still a worthwhile watch and it is not unwatchable in the sense it breaks Star Wars. Still a decent movie to watch.

Just watch it last night, i feel the whole movie is about how to let go of the past. How to keep forward.. the general lando han leia luke akcbar etc is too powerful, it will destroy the core of the story and movies trilogy.

So it make perfect sense for the ending to be that way. My theory is episode 9 should be where the best secret hidden. I do not think ******* can be kill that easily, i do not think skywalker bloodline will be cut off, and i think anakin will pop up at any part of the story.

Kylo is not a master of a darkside, without knowledge he's powerless. Its impossible to be strong as snoke or palpatine.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Well....

Have I GOT a story to share with you.

And it goes like, a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away... laugh.gif

I did not planning to watched this today.

I had purchased tickets for IMAX 3D tomorrow.

Wondered into a cinema today to watch WONDER, and the timing was off... and was surprised that Star Wars is available today, and I had free tickets so...

I watched it today as well... I am a pig, I know...

So, how is this movie.

Okay, I have to admit, with it's pedigree, this movie is in a tough spot.

SO MUCH EXPECTATION is on it.

With that said, it did try very hard to PLEASE everyone, and it is THAT, which I feel is it's stumbling block...

The Good

Keeping the character, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron character (it was rumored that this character, in the original script, did not survive the first movie), was a good call.

Making Mark Hamill's character Luke Skywalker, a more manic version of Old Ben Kenobi in the Desert Tatoonie again, also a good call.

Laura Dern's (hey you, lady from the first Jurassic park movie) Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo character, wow!

The first 10 mins of the movie, BRILLIANT!

The Bad

So, in short, how is this 2 hour and  30 minutes movie?

Really guys, would what I say here matter, you will watch this movie never the less.

With that, My Two Sen.

Its a flawed movie but still great nonetheless. Pointless middle act (you know what im talking about) but the third and final act is definitely among the best this year.

However, from the grand scheme of things, a lot of things happened but ultimately inconsequential to the whole series going forward.

overall i give it a 8.5/10. lots of interesting plot points but I personally feel JJ Abram's direction on the Force Awaken, albeit taking a safe approach in terms of storyline (copying too much from A New Hope), feels tighter and more cohesive. Therefore, I rate The Force Awaken higher than The Last Jedi, but just slightly. Rouge One is definitely inferior than these 2 with almost non-existent character development (but cool final battle).

and i dont get the complains in this thread that the movie is trying to attract more chinese audience because they cast an asian for Rose. WTF she's a vietnamese, not a chinese for fuck's sake.

my complains/nitpicks (SPOILER WARNING):

I think the movie would be better if they trimmed down the length to 2 hours maybe. get rid of the unnecessary scenes/subplots.

But despite the complains, i still find the movie to be very enjoyable smile.gif

It's a very good sequel but it has issues. I'm utterly disappointed with the reveal of Rey's parents.

I love this movie, and I greatly prefer this movie over Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The story takes place immediately after The Force Awakens, so this movie almost acts like Part 2 or some sorts to The Force Awakens movie.

The good stuffs

- Excellent space battles.
- Mark Hamill is awesome as Luke Skywalker.
- Good performances by returning characters like Poe and Finn.
- Kylo Ren is a flawed, yet excellent recurring villain so far.
- Good new characters like Holdo, Rose, and the "code breaker".
- Great music by John Williams and the orchestra.
- Excellent CGI.

The bad stuffs

- Many unnecessary subplots that do not mean anything.
- Disappointing Snoke's role.
- Disappointing Rey's origins reveal.
- No mention of the Knights of Ren.
- Extreme Mary Sue traits of Rey.
- Lack of lightsaber battles.
- Lack of Captain Phasma battles.

This movie took some risk, and it largely paid off. I give the movie a rating of 8.5/10.

My current Star Wars movies' ratings:

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - 6.5/10
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - 5.0/10
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - 8.5/10
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - 10/10
Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back - 10/10
Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of Jedi - 8.0/10
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens - 8.0/10
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi - 8.5/10
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - 8.0/10
