matt,
ABC mart have more range on Nike compared to Adidas, but my advice, check out nike shops in Mvalley or around KL, for the sneakers you like, chances are it is already off season in Japan, which sometimes can get 50%~70% off compared to msia.
but there are some, which priced at JPY10,000 = RM380 (now cry.gif), but there are some which are freaking cheap.

shinjuku ABC mart - near don quiote/bic camera is the biggest i went, compared to harajuku/ikebukuro

last 2007, me bought 2 nike sneakers, while my wife, 1 nike 1 vans laugh.gif, total cost of JPY24,000 brows.gif

if he is running all over japan, then it is maybe worth buying Seishun 18 kippu or daily pass. else, use normal ticket or SUICA je...

like fx_53_xt's case, at least 5-6 JR station in a day, costing (estimate/average) JPY160 per trip x 5 = JPY800.
not sure on daily pass costs.

Hey guys (for those interested only)
Its about Seishun 18 kippu :

Hello All,

Thank you to those who replied, but in the manner of honesty and
transparency there was a bit of confusion with my previous post so I will
simplify it.  There are 4 tickets for a total of 9200 yen (2300 yen each).
They must be bought together.  They are good on almost every JR line and
ferry.  The name of the ticket is called Seishun 18 kippu.  You do not have
to be a youth to use them, any age is fine, even though they are called
Seishun in the title. You can get on and off the train and exit the station
as many times as you like on the day you use it.  Yes, they are transferable
so you can use them with your friends and family! They are a very good value
especially for day trips to see cherry blossoms or long distance travel.
