Anyone bought a warm can of this drink?
Can eat the corn inside the can as well biggrin.gif

Nice to drink especially during this autumn-winter season rclxms.gif
*
I miss the warm van houten miruku and hot apple juice.

anyway, i'm going to japan again next march-april for 'hanami'. MAS is putting up cheap ticket right now, rm2300 return, all in.
going there for 9N , including a night in kusatsu, all costing rm3.6k with flight, and another rm2k for the food, train n shopping.

japan meteoroligical yet to inform the forecast, but according to previous years, it is always been end of march thumbup.gif

Hey guys,

I have few question to ask as i am heading to Tokyo on February. My virgin trip to Land of Rising Sun.

1) Is the weather cold on the month of February?
2) What are the places that i should visit during my stay in Tokyo (i will be around for a week only)
- one week? stick to the yamanote line places : akiba, shinjuku, harajuku, shibuya. cukup lah.
3) I heard there got this 'Bus and Train Pass' for tourist to travel around Japan for a 'single-payment' fees only right? May i know whats is the rate and name of it? Where can i purchase it? At the Airport itself?
- JR pass ? tak worth it if just for one week and around tokyo. still found it is cheaper using normal fare, sbb winter , u won't be able to walk around so much because it is cold and u get hungry faster laugh.gif. well that's my opinion. easier, use SUICA card (mcm touch n go) or get day ticket for subway - gelap.
4) Would it be tough to walk-around Japan/Tokyo is i dont know japanese?
- getting a book would help you to get here and there, and it would be tough if u go area that is not tourist friendly.
Thanks a million guys for answering some noobies qustion here...

Cheers.
*
my noob reply as above...sorry can't answer on question 1 since was never there in feb, january is damn cold.

Jeremy, 17C?

my last visit was around 7C outside narita. but that was in Dec 2004.

since u are like 3-4 person, get cheap budget hotel. recommending oak hotel > 7500yen per room , double. u get own bathroom and safe place to keep luggage. furthermore, it is near Ueno JR / keisei station (cheap train to narita 1000yen)

JR Rail Pass is not worth it if you're just going to travel in Tokyo. It's more suited for long distance traveling in Japan. Nevertheless, there is day-pass for the usual metro bus (Tokyu Bus) which you can buy for 500 yen and it'll allow you unlimited rides for all the bus for 1 day. Also, I don't think there's actually an all-day pass for the JR lines in central Tokyo but there is one for the Tokyo Metro.
Reading back some older posts and thought of giving you my opinions as well.
*
well, metro do have day pass, but metro is subway with lots of twist and train change rclxub.gif can be tiring to change trains, especially during winter.
JR yamanote line is much easier.

jeremy, i'd suggest go kyoto first then only return to tokyo, or i'd suggest stick to kyoto only , i.e flight KUL-KYOTO-KUL. shinkansen can be quite expensive, especially with the currency rate of 100y = 3.77 now. last year Sept 07 was only 100y = 3.00. damn, shud have kept those yens..

firedaus,
what's your opinion on TENYA? for me, it is a must-visit everytime in there. cheap, filling, got a lot of chainstore. ikebukuro, akiba, asakusa.

thanks for the info.

btw, do i book my flight tickets and hotel first, or get my visa first?

and regarding the bank statement, any certain amount of monies needed in my acc b4 they think i'll jump ship in Japan to sell udon or something?
*
now japanese embassy in Msia does not require confirmed flight ticket. you can apply first by stating your itenary using the template given at the japanese embassy website. I did called them last week since i'm taking the MAS offer for march. you do not need confirmed ticket and hotel booking now, but the proof of employment and statement is a must.

*Visa Application Requierment has been changed (28 Oct 2008)
Applicants are no longer required to submit confirmed flight itinerary issued by travel agent. Instead of that, applicants must submit tentative itinerary in Japan where they do not have to book for ticket. Please take note that tourist/business travelers who hold a short stay visa are required to show return ticket at the entry point. (Refer to the Remarks #6.)

wah zoakies, i tot u already have wife, still want to go for japanese chicks summore ahhh.....

to others who are planning to apply.
it is not necessary to have 8K in your account. It only applies if u have not have a confirmed/purchased flight ticket and hotel. do the math,
RM8000
- RM3000 (flight ticket)
- RM2000 (hotel)
--------------
RM3000 (for expenses) basically RM2.5k to 3k in bank statement is enough for one week stay but not exceeding two week. RM8k is to get assurance.

my suggestion
- provide credit card statement
or
- cash advance credit card --> put in bank --> apply visa --> got visa , withdraw payback credit card and some cash advance fees, in case u don't have friends/families willing to loan rm8k....

hmm.... air asia x is already opening flights to London. Next? Japan?

current offer KUL-London, RM1,400/pax return ticket. in other hand, MAS's all inclusive fare is RM4,600/pax return ticket...

hmmmm meaning, we can expect normal MAS KUL-NRT RM3,000 became RM1,500 on Air Asia X? can't wait for them. rclxms.gif

wahh, who's been telling u lies. jpa students only get roughly about 3.5k a month. 3k is enough to live. tokyo might a tad difficult but possible.

eh, ya ka? how about MARA student? are they the ones getting RM6k per month?

QUOTE(tanoshi)
err sorry, juz sharing an info here..
my mother in law went to Japan on last May 2008, the req. from Jap. embassy in Jln Stonor...only ask:
1- a letter purpose to go to japan.(visiting a daughter) together with her daughter birth cert.
2- bank statement (saving or current) shows balance not less than RM 5k (i dunno bout the RM8k)
3- passport.
4- passport photo (for visa)
5- flight itinerary (NOT a flight tix)
thats all, because I'm the one went to submit the Visa!
successfully done by 3 days exactly...!

may i know the length of the visit?
at the same time, your mother's flight ticket is not yet confirmed, right? so , RM5K-RM3K = RM2k... rclxub.gif
because i went as a student , then working person, bank statement no more than 3k, all ok.

aik..why the quotes are not quotes anymore...

if u dun mind sharing bathroom/toilet with others go hostel , sakura hostel. got a lot of places and cheap.

if u want hotel, i'd recommend Oak Hotel near Ueno. english speaking staff, english web. free internet connection.

man, we need to have those guide compile up soon!

2k for 6night.

for oak hotel, u book anywhere , either from oak hotel or other website, u need to pay deposit 10% and pay difference at the hotel cashier.

oakhotel published rate is 7850yen,
go to instantworldbooking.com, look for oak hotel. they offer 7500yen for a double room. cheaper by 350y x 6N = 2,100Yen laugh.gif every yen counts!

sakura hotel ikebukuro was nice (when it was ikebukuro hayashii annex) but when recently i went , sakura took over, it is getting a bit worst. automatic toilet-bidet not working doh.gif

sakura hotel jimbocho is not bad either, but it is shared bathroom.

so far, the cheapest i could get, double room with private (ensuite) toilet, is @ oak hotel. Be careful on some other hotel which have cases of bedbugs, refer to tripadvisor.com for the reviews.

my recommendation. go Oak Hotel. better than sakura and near to Ueno, where you'd take keisei cheap train from narita (1000y) to Ueno, rather than bus (3000y) or Keisei narita skyliner (3000y). near Ueno park, zoo, ueno station.

i've booked my march 2009 stay.

deathbringer.

when are you going?

asakusa might be a bit old city but lots of temple/gates. ueno is better since it is exactly on Yamanote line...easier to go to Shinjuku/Harajuku/Shibuka/Akihabara.

depends on your preference.
i have not went to Mt Fuji nor Disneyland (not my preference).

my suggestion, go to japan-guide.com and read on the attractions. then decide. too long to suggest here.

my previous travelling asakusa-harajuku(sunday)-shinjuku-shibuya-akihabara-shopping day-go back

yup, the all-inclusive super saver flights. bloody cheap. too bad i'm going to HK next month or i'll book it too for a late feb or march flight.

ah...as expected. u got the all-inclusive price @ RM2.3k ah? or lower than that? i'm looking at my previous flight ticket, which taxed around RM600....current flight? RM1200.....SIA/MAS/ANA/JAL all the same... it is just that ANA announcing to reduce surcharge by next Jan 09 flights. reduced by RM400 if not mistaken, but their price is still expensive since the co-share with SIA (KUL - SG).

FAQ
Visa Application
Q : I am a student. How much do I need to have in my bank account for visa application?
A : Depends on length of stay. Usually, for holiday <7 Nights, RM3,000 with confirmed flight ticket and hotel reservation is sufficient. Refer to MY Japan embassy to confirm.

Q : How the hell am I suppose to raise that amount of money when I am a student? icon_question.gif
A : Work / beg / borrow / sell your PC/Notebook/Motorcycle .  laugh.gif J/k. Before you plan to go to Japan, you must have the money first, then only can plan.

Travelling:
Q : Should I take JR PASS?
A : Depends on which area you are going and length of stay. Check your travelling plan first and its transportation. If not, just purchase normal ticket or get SUICA Card (something like Touch n GO)

Oak Hotel Ueno (near JR Ueno/Keisei Ueno, Keii's recommendation) : OAK HOTEL UENO
