Guys, if i go during Spring time around end of March to beginning April, will be a good period to tour Tokyo ?

As i know, Japan got 4 days of public holiday at the beginning of April. Will the landmarks/shops be open ?

Thanks ahead...

its a very peak period. alot of domestic travels. but everything shud be open though.
*
Means the Shinkansen would be brim-packed ?? ohmy.gif

Do you think it's a good idea to visit during Golden Week ? I thought it's better to tour during the festivals period, but if the prices are at premium and the overloading crowd... hmmm

Do the sakuras blossom in Spring ?

Friends,

I'm planning to visit Japan with my wife during Chinese New Year. I'm considering whether to visit Japan myself or follow the tour package.

Personally I prefer to visit it myself because I don't like the rigidness of a tour guided holiday. But my only worry are the hotel prices. Any recommendations on where's a economical and safe place to stay in Tokyo?

Firedauz already posted somewhere in the forums; Sakura Hotel tongue.gif I plan to stay there as well, or maybe Tokyo International Hostel

Most of what I would answer is similar like tanoshi's answer biggrin.gif

1. Yup, very convenient, because it is in central Tokyo itself.

2. If you compare using the Subway vs the JR Lines (which is the normal trains), then the answer is Yes, subway is expensive.
As suggested by tanoshi, try planning your destination using http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi and http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/ .

3. It depends on what you want to eat.
Fast-food restaurants are everywhere.
Convenient stores are even more (like every 500m, you can see another one).
Japanese food are aplenty.
I suggest you plan it all out first by doing more searches on the Net, including what you prefer to eat.

Firedauz, is it possible to live on onigiri (breakfast), bento set (lunch) and fast-food ramen (dinner) for 5 days ? biggrin.gif How much would these 3 meals cost ?

Yes, I think you can if you are not a big eater.

Onigiri = 100 Yen - 110 Yen (buy from convenient store)
Bento = 500 Yen and above
Fast-food Ramen = 500 Yen and above
Thx ! Im considering of living with those for 5 days trip in Tokyo on shoe-string budget rclxm9.gif
