QUOTE(sukhoi35mk @ Aug 11 2008, 02:25 AM) I got my Omnia yesterday and loving it... Here is the link, an instruction guide to use MAPKING on your Omnia.http:/www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=98612&view=findpost&p=705894 I've tried and it works. ================================================================================= 1. Go download the port splitter 1.1 free from http://www.freewareppc.com/download/commun...tsplitter.shtml 2. Go to Start - Setting - System - External GPS Program - set GPS Program port to COM8 Hardware - COM9 / Baud rate - 4800 Access - Remain checked 3. Go to Start - Setting - System - Enchance GPS XTRA Enable - Enable Auto download - Disable 4. After installating Port Splitter to i780, activate it and set the setting accordingly. Input - COM8 (type it if its not there) Baud - 4800 Output - COM6 (press Add and start) 5. Open the MapKing Go to Tools - GPS/Track - By User (COM6 / Baudrate 4800) Done !! To activate GPS, just make sure Port splitter is activated, open Mapking - click GPS at the bottom - click anywhere to open up the menu - click GPS Status (if showing no fix on the top left, it means its trying to locate your position) So go to a open air location (Takes about 5 mins to log on estimate) Pls note, somehow when activating port splitter, it attempts connect to our GPRS. To disable your connection, I did this. Go to Start - setting - connections - Advanced - Select networks - Edit (top&bottom) click hold and delete the connection setting. If in case you need the GPRS setting back, just go to Start - Setting - System - Operator Setting. Change to another Telco and change back to your Telco, your setting will be back. ============================================================================================= |

Damm it, I asked PDA Expert and they claimed they have an outlet in Penang. Now I know that they actually don't even have one here....
I felt that I was conned badly. Now calling to their HQ and get their people to clarify on this issue. Apparently they are setting up an outlet in Penang soon in 2 to 3 months time. From the info I obtained, they have a temporary dealer which mediates all their dealings in Penang. So that at least ease my pains for running here and there to fix my phone. I wonder their stock if it comes with the latest G4 firmware .... This post has been edited by dennooze: Aug 11 2008, 01:12 PM |

Just now I went to test omnia in digital mall. I only able to play with the camera for a while as the digitl mall already at itclosing hour. It disappoint me very much to see the camera ability. The picture is nice while your taking it in a normal condition (without zooming). But when you start to zoom in, the pixels start to show up. Blurry and crooked picture as an end product. No wonder when I post about the picture quality by omnia when zooming, no one answered....

However I don't know how GSM Arena review got so nice shots? In fact they say the phone's camera is really nice na dpossibly best out there for Pocket PC. I wonder what's wrong? Right now I am trying in multiple modes to get the best picture qualities. Will report back later.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK - after some testing I found out the issue or rather the solution. When you using the camera's preview tool and zoom in - you will see a lot of pixelization and blurry lines. However when you use the Photo slides it's a different story altogether. The lines are clear and no pixelization even on deeper zooms - so the picts are nice. Perhaps the camera preview tool is not made for zooming in shots. One thing though - the colours tend to be a bit faded - I guess must be the lense and software of the camera. However it's still nice enough This post has been edited by index7: Aug 11 2008, 11:03 PM |

Well I might be over estimate its camera capability. But might not also. Index7, could you post the zoomed in picture you've taken? i'll highly appreciate it. I,m really concern for its camera capabilities, espacially for its 'zoom in' feature coz I really need it for my work. And i'll be using zoom in a lot. I'm counting on the phone camera to do the job as I dont want to carry a lot of stuff when going for site inspection and case study visits.

I'll try to add the picts - but currently my home PC kaput and I only have my office laptop. It is a "lockdown" machine so it's highly sensitive to files being transferred into it. Give me a few days - and hopefully I can post some shots.

Don't put high expectation.. Maybe later i'll try post it here. But one thing i noticed, Omnia took outdoor picture quite well compare to indoor one. Somehow the flashlight can be too bright when you take close-up picture. And you might see the pixelate picture on the screen after you saved it. Dont be surprise because the picture has been fixed to the screen. What u do is try to zoom out and you can see the clear and sharp picture.
