hi eric,

where did u booked the omnia?
Samsung or PDA Expert?

Just went back from PC Fair,
if u buy from Samsung, can collect on Monday ..
but need to wait 2 weeks from PDA Expert..

So far only 2 authorized Omnia seller during PC Fair beside Samsung itself;
PDA Expert & Fresh Gear..

Actually i already place deposit on 16gb one from PDA Expert... smile.gif
After extensive comparison Diamond & Omnia tongue.gif ,
this time i already made my mind..
Since the launched of Tytn II --> Cruise --> Diamond,
i keep waiting & waiting...then i realized how long i'm gonna wait for my perfect device...
it will never come actually...

hopefully i can get the device earlier than the scheduled..

and for the price, i think its quite reasonable along with Diamond..
some more u can can extra storage, more MP, bigger screen & bigger battery..

Just want to get a confirmation from those who have ordered Omnia:

1. Does the standard pack come with TVO cable? Seem it's not standard packed at other places/countries.
2. Isn't Screen Protector supposed to be within the standard pack?
*
i think maybe different country has their own packages.
Like singapore, they bundled with stylus and tv-out only for early bird promotion,
but Malaysia, no stylus and come with TVO cable as a standard pack.
And their special promotion also diffrent;Omnia Pouch + Digital Photo Frame + Screen Protector

Anyway, PDA Expert has gave me cheapo stylus pen, bluetooth headset, microsd reader + kuih bulan as a freegifts smile.gif

hmm how to check the firmware of my omnia? what is the lastest firmware now?
*
go to Start > Setting > System > Version

The latest one should be i900DXHG4

Mine is G3. I noticed that some of the features that someone mentioned from PPCSG already in G3.
- Hactic Feedback Lesser, only launching something will have feedback. (No vibrate when typing)
- Samsung Today 1 Plugin
- Smart Reader
- Changes to Calculator Skin
- End Key Function to lock Device

I'm not sure about below items:-
- Overall Speed Faster
- Some icons are changed (like when charging, Calculator)
- Orientation are better in G4
- More Video Settings
- No change in Memory

This one for sure
- New Input like Samsung Panel and 点讯输入

You can download it from here

i just transfered avi files 700 mb into my Omnia and it play very well with wide fullscreen (using Core player). It's a perfect device for watching movie while travel. But i didn't test the whole movie to see how long it will last the battery.

Here is the link, an instruction guide to use MAPKING on your Omnia.
http:/www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=98612&view=findpost&p=705894
I've tried and it works.

=================================================================================
1. Go download the port splitter 1.1 free from http://www.freewareppc.com/download/commun...tsplitter.shtml

2. Go to Start - Setting - System - External GPS
Program - set GPS Program port to COM8
Hardware - COM9 / Baud rate - 4800
Access - Remain checked

3. Go to Start - Setting - System - Enchance GPS
XTRA Enable - Enable
Auto download - Disable

4. After installating Port Splitter to i780, activate it and set the setting accordingly.
Input - COM8 (type it if its not there)
Baud - 4800
Output - COM6 (press Add and start)

5. Open the MapKing
Go to Tools - GPS/Track - By User (COM6 / Baudrate 4800)

Done !!

To activate GPS, just make sure Port splitter is activated, open Mapking - click GPS at the bottom - click anywhere to open up the menu - click GPS Status (if showing no fix on the top left, it means its trying to locate your position) So go to a open air location (Takes about 5 mins to log on estimate)

Pls note, somehow when activating port splitter, it attempts connect to our GPRS.
To disable your connection, I did this.

Go to Start - setting - connections - Advanced - Select networks - Edit (top&bottom) click hold and delete the connection setting.

If in case you need the GPRS setting back, just go to Start - Setting - System - Operator Setting. Change to another Telco and change back to your Telco, your setting will be back.

Well I might be over estimate its camera capability. But might not also. Index7, could you post the zoomed in picture you've taken? i'll highly appreciate it. I,m really concern for its camera capabilities, espacially for its 'zoom in' feature coz I really need it for my work. And i'll be using zoom in a lot. I'm counting on the phone camera to do the job as I dont want to carry a lot of stuff when going for site inspection and case study visits.  laugh.gif
*
Anyway, it's just a digital zoom. Not optical zoom.
Don't put high expectation..smile.gif

Maybe later i'll try post it here.

But one thing i noticed, Omnia took outdoor picture quite well compare to indoor one.
Somehow the flashlight can be too bright when you take close-up picture.

And you might see the pixelate picture on the screen after you saved it.
Dont be surprise because the picture has been fixed to the screen.
What u do is try to zoom out and you can see the clear and sharp picture.

Yeah, had to agree with that... can't really put a high expectation on it.  nod.gif  biggrin.gif
Hmm...does anyone know if mobile telescope is compatible with omnia? or does it has its own version of mobile telescope?

Oh and....which camera surpases the other between omnia (Samsung) and viewty (LG)? just curious.... laugh.gif

Thanx maks_pain...thats a good zoom in picture review.  thumbup.gif  Appreciate it very much.

Even with the default camera setting, it manage to give a good quality image  hmm.gif (though i could notice a little noise for outdoor, and even more noise for indoor) even when you are not zooming in...But for the zoom in pictures, I'd say i'm a bit disappointed.  doh.gif  (but might be by playing with the setting will put out a nice zoom in pictures)

By the way what is the default setting? Especially the picture size and ISO setting.

Oh yess... before i forgot..that an informative and useful blog for an omnia users.  notworthy.gif ..keep on adding more information bro, reading it make me want to get omnia even more. hehehe  brows.gif

The review blog is great, thanks for all the info. Btw d you try pimping the Omnia? spb is a great app. Previously i used it at my HTC Touch. It was great but due to it is an old version cant get more out of it. if anyone of you try the screen where there is a little ghost, do tell me..

really cant wait to get my hands on one of the omnia blush.gif
*
i tried SPB Mobile Shell. It works perfect except for the 1st screen.
When you try to view in landscape, the layout cannot fit to the screen.

Attached Image

For the Winteface, I found that software not so very stable. Sometimes, you will feel it use a lot of CPU & memory. A few people using Omnia also had complaint about this issue (http://blog.iwindowsmobile.com). Maybe the new version will solve this prob. Anyway the apps quite nice. Simple and fast.

Oh ya, anyone know how to disable 3G settings.
I couldn't find any setting to disable it except for HSDPA (already disable).
As you can see image above, the network icon is showing 3G. Sometimes E, G.
I'm afraid it will drain the battery.
Or it's just a normal?

Bro,

A nice homescreen you have there. I sure know that when spb goes landscape sure got some issues. Just wondering are you using spb+? bought it at PDAexpert? Dont worry about 3G icon on the screen. It just let you know that your area has 3G coverage. Lastime my HTC touch also like that. It will show E.. thumbup.gif
*
Thanks for clarify this matter.
I'm using SPB Shell only and bought it from PDAexpert.
Still haven't recieve the freegift.

So, does anybody got TVout cable when u purchased Omnia?
I thought it will be included inside the package based from the promotion during PCFair.
