Else i will gonna have a headache.
Hehe, cannot feed Brownie la, and hamster are very flexible.
Overseas Syrian can weight up to 200g , but our country's Syrian only 120 or so, it wouldn't be a problem for a Syrian to go anywhere it likes i guess.
Which section ? Please enlighten me.

WW can't climb 90 degree up la. Big Syrian maybe can. Maybe you try put it vertical first, then when they get used to it then only you change the design. The OVO tube is too big for WW to climb up as the diameter is too big for them.

I got a brush from Ikea, seems like able to squeeze inside the tube and brush it, but those tubes is like separuh + separuh, no need a brush to wash the inside of it lah.

No need that mikl bottle brush. The tubes can be separated into pieces for you to wash, it connected with the connector only. Just you have to dissemble and assemble each time you wash the tank. You need to wash every week cos closed up space will smell faster with their pee. Good luck to you lor.

Yes. Only one side of the hamster is hopelessly oily. The legless side...

My hamster is a tricycle; 3 legs only.

I don't have any pictures of my hammy, I'm afraid. And my camera's temperamental too. sad.gif
Just imagine that one side of the hamster has pristine fur and another a complete oily wreck, and on the hind leg of the wrecked side is missing.

She, actually. Her name is Bean.

The story is like this. Someone else in the neighbourhood bought two hamsters, mother and daughter (Bean). When little Bean was a little baby, the hind leg mysteriously shriveled up and dropped off. When they bought it, she was already 3 legged.
Then cannot take care of the hamsters anymore, got into a fight and can only keep one so Bean was given to me; cage and everything.

When we first got her we noticed that she was quite grubby especially on one side, so gave her a bath....

Then we noticed that one side will eventually turn very grubby, always. The one with no leg...it was to the point she started losing fur...so occasionally after 1 week or two we will bathe again.

I tried to brush (with powder) but it was soooo mucked up it gets tangled and the hamster was not happy with me trying to get it untangled. I tried sand bath and...the sand sticks to her instead (only roll in once or twice then completely ignores it).

the tanks have 'legs', so it wont cover the airholes at all..
*
Actually, the circulation for tanks that are on each other are quite bad. The gap isn't enough. Now I stack using shelving unit. At least there are 2 inch gaps for each tank to have better ventilation.

QUOTE(blurjoey @ Jun 23 2008, 08:53 AM)
The normal 2 feet tanks or any other size tanks have feet. You can actually stack them up. There is a gap when you stack them up to allow airflow. The cover of the tank have edges that allows the tank to be stacked up nicely in place.

The dove/mink (to be confirmed later) was terrified and you want us to hold in our hands? He  was screaming and trying to jump/escape when we trying to hold and get a better look at him before we bought him. Doing so would make him more stress and prone to wet tail disease. Also what if he escaped while in the car? There is so much place that fella can hide in there. How to catch him back?

If he was tamed it will be a different story.
*
I was chatting with Reanne, confirm that your is a mink, coz it has those eye rings. Reanne had a dove before, and it had no eye rings.

If a syrian screams, it means it is 100% scared.

Anyway, my newly bought syrian has wet tail. Pity him, I think he got it from the fresh food, maybe his body is not taking it properly since he was from a petshop that did not even give water.

Can i feed my WW with mango??The sour one not the sweet one.

I got a 1 tree of mango at home...lol.
*
No sour mangos.... you will just make your hamster prone to diarrhea.

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Jun 23 2008, 10:13 PM)
I want to ask something about hamster food...

As advised by this thread, I bought Silius. I rried looking for others but they didn't sell.

There's a TON of 'living world' brands though, considerably cheaper than Silius with larger packs. I've learned that large packs don't always mean it's good for my hamster...

And she's not particularly fond of Silius either.

So, what about it?
*
Sluis is a good brand. Not every hamster likes the herbal smell, same like Prestige. I actually prefer Prestige over Sluis as I used both brands before. Living World or Habitrail is a cheap brand.... quality is not as good as it won't give a hamster all the proper nutrients coz it is not packed with healthy grains and herbs like Prestige and Sluis.

QUOTE(liette` @ Jun 23 2008, 10:39 PM)
is the yolk of a hard boiled egg safe for hamster consumption?
*
Yes, the yolk is good. But it is better to give both the yolk and egg white. I suggest frying scrambled eggs in a nonstick frying pan using no oil. My hamsters and even gliders like that better than just hard boiled. Just don't feed everyday coz high in protein and fat.

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Jun 23 2008, 11:00 PM)
I also want to discuss something about my hamster's fur. She has three legs and no, I didn't buy her. Someone cannot take care of her anymore and passed it to me. Eventually I changed the cedar to corn cob things like that.

People always say don't bathe the hamster with water. So I bought sand for her...she don't want to roll in it. Eventually one side of the hamster becomes so mucked with oil she started to lose hair.

And that's the point where we usually use very warm water and bathe. My mom helps, since she don't like mine.

She always sleep on the oily side too. Strange ham
*
What you should be doing is to help her sand bath. Having 3 legs means she cannot roll and flip properly. You should be grooming her with a toothbrush with small animal grooming powder to get rid of the oils. She is not strange, just unable to do what a normal hamster could do properly.

Oooh... I see.

I tried helping her bathe before and she clamped on me. No blood but she clamped for quite a bit. Very gentle but very timid hamster who will drop her food most of the time...

Whenever we take her out of the cage she eventually gets nervous and try to get back home.

Non scented talcum powder or rice power can ar? She don't like the toothbrush too.

So Slius is worth the money...that's good to know. The pack was really, really small compared to the others.

P.S The clamping happened during the sandbath. She was very quiet with the water one.

Is not clamped.... is call Nip. Means a bite with no puncture wounds.

Anyway, no talcum powder. Only powder meant for pets. You have to get her used to the tooth brush. You may think a water bath is good for her coz you see her clean and all but it is not good for hamsters. It strips their natural fur oils, over dries the skin... it can cause a hamster to get the chills.... it can even weaken the immune system. This is because they are so small, their bodies cannot tolerate bathing that often.

yes, i agree. it's about 4 months or older, i can actually see the genital thingy and anus, but they all looks so so so.. i mean no difference at all.. all of them =.=

i found few sites that show the photo for robo and dwarf, but they are much more obvious, i mean, mine are like, no difference to me, so i wish someone could give me a better picture of how does it looks like..
