anyone here raises robo?? i'm having 3 siblings here...
Long story cut short: i suspect there is a female among them, which i don't wish them to inbreed and i wanted to seperate the female. however, i have difficulties to differentiate which one is male or female, where they looks REALLY similar to me. i've done all the research i could by googling but i can't really get a clear picture to differentiate them yet.. trust me, i can differentiate other species but no robo.. could anyone help me out here? in the sake of hamsters, please.. thank you in advance |

QUOTE(jayniel @ Jun 24 2008, 12:39 AM) how old are ur robos? if they're still young it could be difficult to differentiate.. the males will have the genital & anus further apart than the females.. yes, i agree. it's about 4 months or older, i can actually see the genital thingy and anus, but they all looks so so so.. i mean no difference at all.. all of them =.=i found few sites that show the photo for robo and dwarf, but they are much more obvious, i mean, mine are like, no difference to me, so i wish someone could give me a better picture of how does it looks like.. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 24 2008, 02:44 PM) When you have time, train them to climb on your hand. Will make everything easier. 15 minutes a day of training is sufficient. They don't welcome too much interaction at first. You can slowly increase the time. They'll get used to your hand and smell. Love = Patience + Sacrifice You can't expect results so quickly. They are robos, I would say the hardest to tame. But taming them is really worth it. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 24 2008, 07:05 PM) Do it slowly. When you do it all of a sudden you will frighten them. I find the key to holding a small animal is to approach it very slowly. actually i've been raising them for a week only.. but i'm afraid about the case of inbreed, that's why i wanna make sure they're all MALES i got bitten just now, when i tried to cup them.. at least two of them bite me i've been tracing threads since 3 weeks ago in this topic, to refresh my knowledge about hammies. but i couldn't get myself a real clear picture of their sexing... i even look through the old versions but still cannot get the point. i mean i do know how to differentiate hammies from male to female, but not on ROBOs. i used to raise syrians, unquestionable, their sexing mark is remarkable OBVIOUS. anyway, i managed to check thru the 3 siblings, yet, still looks real similar. =.= is that both robo male and female have a genital mark looks like "jj"?? i wonder how come all 3 got... i thought female should have "vagina"?? but they all have 1 anus only =.= mod, pls modify my post if found offensive. |

i almost have them on my palms, but i guess i frightened them every time i grab em... so sad
i knew i'm a bit hasty to grab them but i just wish to seperate them, i cant find a real obvious way to differentiate them.. other than the distance of genital and anus, is there anything i can spot? thank you everyone, especially jamien, i know you tried so hard to help. thank you so much!! |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 24 2008, 11:13 PM) That's a normal problem. That's why young robos are so very difficult to sex. There was once when I sexed them wrongly and end up inbreed. But only once lar. The babies were not used for breeding. alright.. i guess i gotta let them be for now.The obvious difference is really just the distance between the anus and also that male testicles become obvious overtime. If you wish to tame them then don grab them. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 24 2008, 11:48 PM) They can mate just fine. i wish i'll never have such experience.. feel sorry for you and the babies... it must be a hard time to both you and your hammies That accident only happened once. I'm not proud of my mistake. But I never committed it again. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 25 2008, 01:57 PM) Non-scented and non-colored printed are ok I guess. I usually use toilet paper instead. They like making nests with these papers. More than hay I would say. And they don't really eat it. They just chew it to the size they like. of course i feed them, with habitrail staple food and fruit & vegie sometimes.. but they seems to hate the pellet inside the staple food, never eat them, even they chew it into pieces... is that for rabbit or gp?i guess i should start giving them a roll of tissue papers? i had a emptied roll in the cage, they'll chewing it daily, and it looks quite artistic when you look at the 'pattern' of the roll |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 25 2008, 02:03 PM) If you got the one for the dwarf, they'll be just fine. You'll hear them banging off your walls at high speed in no time at all. I'm more afraid they will crack the ball at the speed they'll be going, like mine. Totally destroyed the exercise ball. but i'm quite sure they won't destroy the ball yet, for now at least i'm quite amused while they run the ball, they look so cute, n clumsy sometimes, because it's still a new toy to them so i guess mine is already the smallest of all, just wonder if i could get a smaller one. but robo sure looks small in the ball right? |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 25 2008, 06:02 PM) Yes they look so tiny in the exercise ball. Hehe... about the ball, i found robo's legs are too tiny that their legs can slipped to those air holes.. looks dangerous to me Mine bang the ball until it is so cracked that it's not possible to use anymore unless I wanna risk them escaping. So I threw away lor. Hehe... Mine don't like the pellets either. They eat everything but the pellets. When all but the pellet is left, I usually don't put any new food for them to force them to eat it. The pellets are good for their digestion and teeth so must force them to eat a bit. so they eat pellets? last time i threw all the pellets they left over, about 1/5 of the full bowl, what a waste, i thought robo doesnt eat pellets. i will try to force them to eat pellets when their food is almost finish this time... my late syrians love pellets too, Yuu is not weird, if so, mine also weird lor |

QUOTE(irkuysm @ Jun 25 2008, 06:18 PM) The pellet u mention is the one looks abit like a cyclinder thing?? yes, the cylinder thingy, according to jamien, "You betta let them have some for the sake of themselves" Yay most of all my hammy doenst touch that thing!Only few time they will bite it abit if they think its delicious.. wat a waste but maybe that thing not gud to them...xD. Rather then Prestige, what brand is good for hamster staple food???I would like to buy new one this week. Just kidding, it's good for their health, i mean. i've been feeding my hammies with habitrail, recently i tried delicate, totally the same thing to me.. otherwise, try get some vegie and fruits for your hammies if you find they're bored of staple fruits. feeding fruits and vegies once a while is great choice, but just once a while, you can google out which fruits and vegie that they like most. about prestige, the price is killing me, not really a wise choice for a poor student like me Added on June 25, 2008, 7:11 pm QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 25 2008, 06:45 PM) Yeah but Yuu is a ROBO. He is the only robo I had who loves to eat pellets. When I put in fresh food all the other robo will go snatch all the grain and kuaci and corn and stuff into their mouths. Yuu will go in to snatch one pellet, sit down, slowly chew. i'm glad to hear that... i was worried about my robos when i can touch their legs from the air hole.. And yeah, they eat pellets. They are like us, in the sense they won't eat what they don't like. The long sticks is alfafa pellets. Eating it is equivalent to eating a bit of hay. Makes sure their teeth not too long and their digestion runs well. Force them but don't starve them lar k? i should try 'teaching' them to eat pellets, no more food wastage!! QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 25 2008, 08:41 PM) Prestige can last quite long eh. It's been a month and my 2 syrians still leave me with an almost full packet. Divide the one pack to 3 months, one month only pay RM 8? So I think ok in a long run. Some more it's good for our hammies ma. it's true just rm8 @ month, but i got feed my hammies with fruits and vegies, so i think should be fine to them.. currently i'm thinking of to feed hammies with mealworms, is that really good to make hamsters chubby? and anyone knows where to get it? |
