just want to share,
im not working in intel but my close friend kena ady last week vss (or you guys called it CPM or something).
she's getting compensation 9 weeks salary & some months based on the service timetable.

also she heard the manager said new ceo wants to make the total intel staff number down until 40k , so this round vss is just probably round 1. might be more rounds after this.

your friend probably work for 2-3 years only seeing her compensation is 2 mths+..
usually it is 1 yr = 1 month compensation, this has been the normal payout since 10 yrs ago.

40k headcount is comparing with industrial average such as nvidia and amd. could be true but just another rumor.

layoff never stop at intel, every year also got, just how big it is only.. 2024 was 15%, 2025 is around 20%... more to come definitely until it can turn profit.

i mean, the 2 months+ compensation was added on top of the 1 yr = 1 month compensation.
example she worked for 4 years, total is 4 months + 9 weeks, so around 6 months+ worth of compensation.

but yea maybe the new CEO just want to focus on small product number only like nvida/amd. thus the 40k headcounts sounds legit (intel current employee count is approximately 108k ohmy.gif )

You cant compare number of employees directly with Nvidia and AMD la. They have no fabs and factories. more accurate would be to add both AMD and TSMC even then that is not a fair comparison.

Altera only got 3-5k employees total. Current number as of Q2'2025 is around 99k. After CPM expect to be around 80-90k. I dont think Intel can go any lower. You need man power to operate the fabs and factories.

I believe there's some documentation somewhere internally in the company but it's not talked about often enough.

As for CPM, all of it should be done by this week unless there's a special circumstance. This is true for Engineering dept, other dept would do it on different timelines.

As some indicated, this time, the cuts that happen are abit painful as people who are actually delivering work are cut as compared to the past where there were bottom performers.

Well from what I have seen, the low performers on any given grade level are the ones actually shown the exit first.

Then only senior engineers. Cuts are done based on critical skills mapping and project requirement this time around. Yes there are people that were doing work also got cut but usually based on several factors.

1. They have hit their grade ceiling and unable to progress further. In the mean time, their skillsets are not unique and there is someone on the team with a lower grade that can do their job.

2. Projects got ZBB'ed. And again, their skillsets are not unique and people in the same department owning other projects also have the same technical expertise.

Kinda sucks and ironic. Means that if you want to keep your job, don't teach everything to your juniors if you are a high grade IC but not at PE level.

Low performers were mostly impacted last year as there were several rounds of CPM.

As for the last statement, I won't really agree to it but I would say, make sure you work on things which are relevant and make sure you do it well cause even if the project you're working on gets cut, if you're good, they won't let you go.

/heh/ normally for the list of cut peoples, Managers or Directors provide the list right.
those key persons like Seniors IC Designers won't normally get the package, they try to counter offer, but sadly, normally they just throw letter and resign themselves. If grass is greener on the other side.
