@MilesAndMore,
I also checked on the 'Administrative Charges' of 1% on HSBC credit cards - apparently my RM tells me there is no such charge to the customer and that is applicable throughout ALL HSBC cards.  I told her I got a different information from the Card Centre CS and she tells me she will get back to me.
Ok. Keep us posted.

Guys, pardon me for asking this...

I saw this statement on the first page of this thread:
"*warning
new BNM ruling whereby if you are not a full pay master of your credit card for the past 12 months, beginning from June/July 2008, all your transactions would be charged finance charges (17% p.a.) the moment you swipe. It means irregardless what you buy be it petrol or PC parts, it will have finance charges starting on the transaction date itself."

May I know that this is confirmed?

Because I went to BNM's website and there was no mention of this....

Thank you very much.I have actually read them...

But what puzzles me is that this rule is:

a) You must be at least a prompt minimum repayment pay master to avoid this situation

or

b) You must be a prompt paymaster who settles in full to avoid this situation.

I am questioning this(even though in the statement from the first post is refering that the answer should be "b") because I have received letters from both HSBC and OCBC stating that the answer seems to be pointing to "a".
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Edit: I know what is going on already. Thanks

It's answer A.
When you logically think about it if it's B i.e. "settles in full" than you wouldn't even be charge interest in the first place.

Visa used to be accepted worldwide than Mastercard but that's not the case now so it's really a matter of preference. I believe Mastercard is probably more well accepted locally but as I don't work with the card centres I don't have the statistics to support it.
When I was in retail, Mastercard was more accepted locally by merchants as its commission charges were lower than Visa. Not sure whether it is still the case.

Someone told me it's the same for both VISA and Mastercard these days. Except of course for AMEX and Diners. Anyone here who can confirm this information ?

I am contemplating cancelling my HSBC card as I was promised a platinum card when I applied. Got a gold card instead.

I prefer to have classic with high credit limit rather than platinum/gold with same or lower credit limit than classic. Furthermore, the annual fee is low. That's the reason i never apply for Citibank gold or platinum card coz my credit limit for classic card is RM14k which is not a combine credit limit. I think it is quite high for classic card but unfortunately, now always get gold card. sweat.gif doh.gif

I make enough to apply a plat card with other banks. Just got taken in by the HSBC agent's pitch of "if you got a gold, now can get a plat". I was thinking hey why not, since HSBC's criteria is one of the highest in the market. Now punishing the agent asking him to appeal or I cancel lol.

Looking to get plat just to have access to the additional benefits when required. I already have high limits on my golds.
