Actually I prefer cash rebates as the savings/rewards are more of less instant. Points system are only good if they don't expire or you have very high usage. The really good rewards all require high points and points are always at the risk of expiring. One thing i noticed that some of the banks that offer points that do not expire tend to have higher point requirements for their redemptions.

QUOTE(jchong @ May 12 2008, 06:57 PM) What exactly is their cash rebate conditions? I looked at the website and it says "10% Cash Back on Interest Paid". That's a false gain because you kena the interest. I always settle my monthly bills in full so that kind of cash rebate no good for me. Any other cards with cash rebate feature? There is also a credit card cash back offer. http://www.alliancebank.com.my/ccard_cashback.html

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 22 2008, 05:17 PM) If you travel a lot, then you might want to consider HSBC Premier Mastercard (a World Mastercard) and AMEX Charge Card. Exchange rate is reasonable for both cards, or so i hear. Not exactly. I've been researching this since i just got back from a trip. Mastercard and Visa charges a surcharge on top of the exchange rate. The banks also choose to charge an additional administration charge on top of that Maybank: 0.5% (i think) CIMB/DA: None Hong Leong: 1% PBB: No Info Citibank: 1% HSBC: 1% EON: 2% Amex has a higher surcharge then Mastercard and Visa. Edit: Mistake - Eon Bank is 2% This post has been edited by zenquix: May 23 2008, 04:20 PM

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ May 23 2008, 10:29 AM) @zenquix, I just checked - there were no admin charges on the stuff I paid for when I was in HK. I used UOB & Citibank. Could it have been not specifically stated in your statement and absorbed into the exchange rate? I know there is a court case in US over this... The numbers I quoted were extracted from their website. Perhaps they have a change in policy where they may or may not charge it? *shruggg*

QUOTE Visa used to be accepted worldwide than Mastercard but that's not the case now so it's really a matter of preference. I believe Mastercard is probably more well accepted locally but as I don't work with the card centres I don't have the statistics to support it. When I was in retail, Mastercard was more accepted locally by merchants as its commission charges were lower than Visa. Not sure whether it is still the case. I am contemplating cancelling my HSBC card as I was promised a platinum card when I applied. Got a gold card instead.

I make enough to apply a plat card with other banks. Just got taken in by the HSBC agent's pitch of "if you got a gold, now can get a plat". I was thinking hey why not, since HSBC's criteria is one of the highest in the market. Now punishing the agent asking him to appeal or I cancel lol.
Looking to get plat just to have access to the additional benefits when required. I already have high limits on my golds.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jun 1 2008, 08:33 PM) By the way Tinkerbell, you have a Citibank Platinum credit card, right ? Is it a Visa Platinum or Mastercard Platinum ? Can you post a picture of it ? Of course with all the details embossed on the card censored. I really would like to know how does Citibank platinum credit card look like. So far i like HSBC Visa Platinum the most http://www.citibank.com.my/APPS/portal/gen...ds_platinum.htm

If the MBB Petronas Visa 5x points ends or doesn't improve.. i would just change to DA. At least flexibility in petrol choice.

Alliance Bank's tier is by usage and not by carry forward balance. Different cards have different tiers too.

@tay Yup. Flat rebate regardless of carry forward amount @tinkerbel Yup until a certain limit then no more rebates. The limits depend on card type.. classic lower, plat higher. This is on top of timeless points as well... Eyeing this card to a certain extent.... http://www.alliancebank.com.my/ccard_cashback.htmlThis post has been edited by zenquix: Jun 4 2008, 06:50 PM

Public bank's cash back is one of lowest in the market (unless u are a high spender every month). Taking the CIMB Petronas will be more worth it.
P/s: I have PB Master I am itching to cancel

I believe it is an international charge as the transaction in question is in USD. Furthermore I think it counts as a cash advance.
