QUOTE(da3shou3 @ Jun 25 2008, 07:49 PM) It's a well known problem for M1330 series only. Recently my graphics card has some problems.. as it was soldered into the motherboard..Good thing it was under warranty at that time. it was replaced also FOC. Now my warranty is coming to an end. I called up Dell to extend the waranty.. to my horror the warranty for one year is RM 1200!!.. It's very very expensive!

I would like to know how is your usage on the M1330 ? Do you usually stress the graphic card like playing some graphic intensive games or maybe 3D rendering and so on ?

I am not renewing the warranty cos it's too expensive... next time I would really go for the three year one.

By the way, do you use any notebook coolers or at least something to tilt the notebook to allow better airflow at the bottom ? By the way guys, have any of you tried to downclock the graphic card ? I tried with RivaTuner and it isn't able to change the clock for high performance 3D, it will keep going back to 400/600.

6months is ok la. Mayb the cooling isnt enough. Its still a lot better than those with XPS1530 that keep having dead mobo after 1-2months.

I am wondering if the motherboard failure happens for the first time, will I still be able to request for a refund ?

Depends. If say my unit is new (1month old or so), I would argue with the customer service. Definately have a case against them. Afterall, even though they provide good after sales services, but not all people really fancy ripping their new toy apart. Moreover, you dont know how long the replacement can last if a new one can die within one month.

Thank you for the advise, so if it ever happens on mine I will try and negotiate for a refund then unless the issue is solved which I doubt it will. My processor is idling at about 40 degrees while my graphic card is at about 55-57 degrees.

I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that a guy mention using the Nvidia driver from Microsoft Update actually helps to avoid that problem. It's not the latest driver but at least it's stable and recognized by M1330 without any modification needed. (And able to install on x64 that's most important for me ) This post has been edited by da3shou3: Jun 26 2008, 09:04 PM

I did try to install a modded driver and the temperature when idle was 70 degrees. Using the default driver from automatic updates will let it idle at 55-57 degrees.

Using the default driver from automatic updates will let it idle at 55-57 degrees. Then since you also say you don't really use any heavy graphic application/games then better just use the default driver from automatic updates lor. The lower the temp, the less trouble you'll have.

Erm... It will void the warranty. For those that already out of warranty coverage maybe you can try this before your GC melt down on you.

no prob yongkailoon,
anyway with all the probs...i would just get a refund before its too late..save me time and increases productivity...less headache too...after all, if you pay so much with anticipation of problems, whats the point of owning it? i would get something else...perhaps even check out Dell's new line...but as for me, no more Dell's in the future.
