To be fair, it depends of your requirement. For online game, bursty packet is definately unacceptable.

But for me, I work alone far away from my home town and rent a single room. The only time I can sit down and use internet is during the night time. Thus streamy is not for me. As a result, I subscribe the unlimited 99 as a VAS to my voice plan so that I can email and browsing on the road.

I have to say, despite the bursty nature of the packet, it is very fast. Watching streaming video is awsome, and much much faster than 1M streamyx.

My experience is totally different from yours.

Using 3.6mbps package, got less than half of what they advertised. Streaming videos on YouTube is slow and frustrating. Uploading stuff is a nightmare as most of the time Maxshit offers upload speed of 56kbps (at par with dial up connections). Online gaming? Hohoho... with 3 digit ping, I'll teleport everywhere man. Downloading MechCommander Gold (about 600mb) took about a week to finish download. (and yes, it's a freeware now)

I find 1mbps snailmyx faster than this.

2 digit ping? it is totally impossible for me. Trace route to google, the nearest router already have plenty of latecy.

Opps... these information might give the experts some clue where I'm located now.... blush.gif

You are using a Pocket PC Device. It does act as a router too. So pretty much it hops to the pocketPC first before sending the packet to maxis routers. Its normal for a phone to have high latency , afterall they aren't dedicated Modems.

QUOTE(Luftwacko @ Jul 14 2008, 12:42 AM)
That shows how bullsh*t maxis is.

I tried playing in Garena, play halfway, dc from server.
Play Hamachi, couldn't even connect to friends...

Spread the word... don't let anyone regret using their crappy service.  vmad.gif

Isn't it obvious ?. They are blocking all the ports as they can , so that bandwidth can be maintained at all times. This is the reason why I said good bye to them and hello to streamyx. I find it that streamyx is better. Heck even my JARING Wireless was way better then that despite the crappy latency. Its because they don't block any funny stuff. Reminds me of my university internet line whereby they block ICMP requests (you can't ping/traceroute) at all.

You're using the so-called unlimited plan. I heard that they are going to throttle that as well as it was uncapped before this , meaning that you guys can get ot enjoy superb bandwidth and no restrictions. But lately , maxis has imposed some restrictions , do see the result in the coming months. Not to scare you but they might throttle p2p connections

I can only comfirm that you can terminated the subscribtion anytime, but not sure if you can get your money back.

prasys, I'm sure my bandwidth is not capped yet, and p2p is not being throttled

but I'm sure the fair usage policy will be enforced in the end of the day. This is business-to-business, it's about making money (imagine yourself as a business man).

Next, Wireless technology have its own limitation, high packet loss is an issue. Although Maxis might play some dirty tricks (and which ISP doesn't?), the technology itself should also be held liable. I had notice that, I have to frequently click the refresh button of the browser. But if the page begin to load, it is extreamly fast. This indicates that it has pleanty of peak speed, but high packet loss as well. So it is not suitable for any real time application.

From my experience, if you want play online game+24 hrs download+video streaming+voice/video conference, etc... Streamyx is still the way to go.

Lastly, ACT INSTEAD OF COMPLAIN HERE...

You are using Maxis RM 99 unlimited package. Your IP range is different from Maxis wireless user , meaning that they dont block some stuffs yet but i bet they will be enforcing it sooner or later. So pretty much you are safe. Maxis unlimited data package and Maxis broadband are on different APN and different set of IP Range !

It does not matter if you are on 3.6mbps package or 384Kbps basic package. The latency is still going to be bad

For some gamers, yes. For me, no.

I'm guessing that your friend ping to bvpn server (202.71.97.81). Coz when I ping there I also got around 100 ping on average. But sometimes, the ping jumps to 1k+.

Just got called from Maxis - Broadband survey.

Their question(roughly..can't remember the exact question). rate (very poor)1-5(very good)

1. Is it easy to register ?
2. Is it easy to Install the modem ?
3. How do u find the Manual Information of the modem ?
4. How about the speed ?
5. Are u usually disconnect ?
6. Have u called the Customer service ?

There are more question actually...can't remember it all.

Why they called me? I just ended their Maxis broadband before the cooling off period.

90% server will kick me out cause my ping time is over 200ms

i good in cs and cz but...becoz ping time make me lose always ...y ?? ...like this when i shoot a guy with ping time lower then 90ms and my ping time is bout 150ms ...the guy shoot me back at same time....u think who will win...sure the loser will be the high ping time
i always lose when i use AWP sniper

what i can say maxis bb is no very good for online gaming
