QUOTE(mrjgx @ Oct 5 2008, 05:06 PM) im aiming for this i780. but dunno if it's really a good and worth to buy as a pda. read a lot of reviews, playtest it at pda expert, but have not decided whether to buy it or not. can somebody enlighten meeee plz. hehe Hv u tried Nokia E71? For almost the same price, I would prefer E71. The only winning point to get i780 is the touch-screen interface which is easier to navigate around rather than pokking the D-pad conventionally.Does this phone capable and really excel in reminding me of meetings, tasks, syncro with my Microsoft outlook email, calendaring, memos, etc??? cheers~ |

I have a few questions on Samsung i780. Hope members here can help to answer.
1. What is the price now and what is included in the package? 2. I heard that we need to edit registry to increase the speakers volume. Anybody have the link to show how to do this? 3. Any problems with the GPS and does the GPS work without A-GPS assistance (means pure GPS only)? 4. How's the handwriting recognition? Easy to use? 5. If I wan to type sms or a note, can I use handwriting and keyboard concurrently or I can only choose one input method at a time? 6. What is the resolution and fps of the video recoding? Thanks. QUOTE(okk @ Oct 12 2008, 09:40 AM) I have a few questions on Samsung i780. Hope members here can help to answer. 1. RM1699 is the cheapest having 2 batteries, 4GB microSDHC card, screen protector plus standard accessories. If you get a price the same but without the first three 'bonus' pack (i.e batteries, card & SP), then you better survey some more.1. 5. If I wan to type sms or a note, can I switch use handwriting and keyboard concurrently or I can only choose one input method at a time? Thanks. 2. It's not registry. It's called Mirage Control Utility. At the standby screen, simply key in *#0002*28346#. More info : http://i780.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/i780-volume-tweaks/ 3. The GPS works flawlessly with Garmin MXT and iGO8. As for MapKing, you have to install PortSplitter in order for MapKing to operate properly. The A-GPS will accelerate the satellite locking from 5 minutes to less than 30 seconds. But A-GPS will use the data connection (GPRS/3G) in order to locate your position in immediate manner. You can set A-GPS to update by hours session or completely turn it off. 4. Handwriting recognition (ie Transcriber) is very user friendly. You can control how the unit recognises each characters (i.e A to Z plus numbers) as well as the speed of recognition. 5. You can switch as many times as you wish. But i780 has no T9 virtual keyboard. So, it's only virtual QWERTY keyboard, or transcriber or hard QWERTY keyboard. If you're asking for battery life, it's fair I would say. Since Samsung is generous enuff to provide 2 batteries, i780 can survive on average 1.5 day/battery if you use all the functions in less than 15 minutes each. The applications/features that will suck the battery vigoriously are GPS and WiFi. Thanks for the reply!
One more question, for A-GPS, the connection to network is only made during initial lockup rite? Or is there constant download of location from the network? I am asking this because I am worried that I will be billed with heavy amount of GPRS/3G usage... |

u're not downloading any data from any network. only googlemap and nokia works that way. windows mobile connects directly via GPS, cuz the GPS is strong enough that it doesnt need any net connection to locate your position (unlike noob
nokia) EDIT: Oh shit u said A-GPS. sorry. all the above i said was GPS. Yes, AGPS will incure charges. but dun worry. u cant use it unless calling your operator and enabling it. dun worry, GPS is good enuf. i've no idea why anyone would want AGPS running indoors. useless plus drains battery and AGPS charges is separate from data charges. ask your operator This post has been edited by Baronic: Oct 12 2008, 11:57 AM |
