Finally found the official thread for i780.

All in all, I'm quite happy with i780. WM6 Pro is still not user-friendly as compared to Symbian S60.

HSDPA, GPS & WiFi works perfectly. My only argument is the "sound and notification" which is bad. You can install your ringtone in storage card but in the end i780 will use the "default" ringtone. U need to put all the ringtones in the windows\ring folder... eats up your phone storage capacity.

Battery (1480mAh) is pretty bad. Only last for 1 day usage of GPS (1 hour), HSDPA (2 hours), WiFi (30 min.), voice call (30 min.), video call (15 min.), Video+Camera (10 min.).

Many claimed the 320x320 screen size lack of support for proprietary softwares. Even without RealVGA being installed, there are still essential softwares that can be installed.

Since i780 is not popular at lowyat.net, you will discover more secrets at PPCSG forum.

Did I mentioned Garmin Mobile XT + Malsingmaps works like a charm in i780? Now i'ml able to find shortcuts to anywhere i want. I luv GPS...

anyone know how to set message tone w custom ringtone ?
*
First, you need to save the mp3(s) into Application Data/Sounds folder.

Then, goto Start > Settings > Personal tab > Sounds & Notifications

Goto Notification tab

Drop down Event : Messanging : New text msg.

Under play sound, drop-down to your desired MP3.

The message tone is in the Event drop-down button. You should see "Messanging : New text msg" in the LIST.

Just using File Explorer (in i780 of course...) , then click the top left drop-down > "My Device" > Application Data > Sounds

Added on April 20, 2008, 1:36 amI think Resco File Explorer 6.17 has automatically renamed my Storage Card into "Storage Card2" without any messages....

The new so called "ROM" is available already. It's called i780DXHC1. Previously it was DXHA1. And yes, this new "ROM" can do hard reset. But the HSDPA/3G signal is degraded. That what's happened to my unit.

May I suggest all the i780 owners to "divert" your input to PPCSG forum. There, they have more active users than this forum. No offence.

don't compare E90 with i780 lerrr.. totally two different PDAs...i780 is running on Windows Mobile 6 Pro while E90 is on Symbian S60...

But in terms of user friendlyness, I personally prefer Symbian OS.

up to 16GB microSD.

I youtubed iPAQ 612c/614c and found out that there's no front camera for videocall. And without QWERTY thumbboard, iPAQ is still less appeal for my taste.

To all current and future owners of i780, please goto PPSCG forum. So sorry to say that, for i780, this LY forum is not as active as PPCSG. You may proceed to

http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=99361

As for the hard reset, YES. i780 supports hard reset button combo. Only for ROM C1 and above. You might ask me what is ROM? Well, that's why you should proceed to PPCSG forum above.

hey dgtel, i read the PPSCG forum but does the ROM available in Malaysia? Or is it just singapore?

And gosh.. the i780 thread there super active man.. Tons of info.

Does anyone know the current market price for this phone in Malaysia yet? Can anyone check out? Oh yeah and find out what freebies we get when buy one
*
the ROM is upgraded when u send ur unit to the service ctr. goto Summit or Samsung Service ctr (near Avon Federal highway)

current price should be around RM1799 to RM1999 with typical free screen protector, two batteries, 4GB microSD. u can try Sunway Pyramid, or Subang Parade, or Lowyat...anywhere... just survey around...

Managed to install iGo8 version 8.0.0.41506 and navigate using my Samsung i780. Overall, compared to Garmin MXT and Mapking (out of 10 scale):

Graphical User Interface
iGo8 UI = 9 (vivid and professional)
GMXT UI = 8
Mapking = 5

Map Layout
iGo8 (Oct 2007) = 5
GMXT (MalsingMaps @ July 2008) = 9
Mapking (MalsingMaps @ July 2008) = 9

POI database
iGo8 = 5
GMXT (MalsingMaps) = 8
Mapking (MalsingMaps) = 8

Routing
iGo8 = 8
GMXT = 8
Mapking= 9 (more options)

Route Re-calculation
iGo8 = 9 (fastest)
GMXT = 8
Mapking = 8

Voice Navigation Reliability
iGo8 = 7
GMXT = 8 (better at roundabout)
Mapking = 7

Satellite Lock (A-GPS enabled)
iGo8 = 9 (very quick)
GMXT = 7
Mapking = 8

GPS Sensitivity
iGo8 = 8 (managed to lock inside my room - I'm surprised as well!)
GMXT = 6
Mapking = 7 (only at balcony)

Heat Release (after 10 minutes usage)
iGo8 = warm
GMXT = hot
Mapking = hot

As of today, iGo8 is a matured product but not reliable for certain country (eg. Malaysia) due to the map and POI quality.

In order to use the POI, you have to convert the .kml files into .upoi format.

You guys may download this user.upoi file and put in the "iGo8/Save" folder. This .upoi file contains Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan POIs.

I do believe during PC Fair the price is alot cheaper. Previous PC Fair the price was RM1699 with standard accessories. ANyway, welcomm to the i780 group. Try install NavNGo iGO8 GPS navigator. It's way better than Garmin/MapKing.

Sorry for asking noobie question. May i know how to activate my GPS? When i launch my mapking the software cannot detect GPS signal? Is this the setting problem or my phone got problem ?
*
u need to launch PortSplitter/GPSGate first and set Com8 and Com6 port in it. i dislike MapKing due to the hassle to use PortSplitter. try google to see the setting of Mapking for i780. but if u can get urself NavNGo iGO8, i'm sure u will dump MapKing.

bro i really appreciate your help. I have trying so hard to look for the NavGo iGO8. But I couldn't find it? Do you mind to PM me where can I got this software? Thanks.
Getting the software (MapKing, Garmin Mobile XT or iGO8) is the stage one to use GPS.

The next stage is to get the latest map for Malaysia, Singapore, etc.

You can install the software and test the GPS chip is working or not. But to fully utilise the GPS voice navigator, u need a decent map.

Just to inform that, each software will have its own map format. MapKing map data cannot be used by Garmin or iGO8. From my point of view, what I can suggest is you try Garmin first as the software is easy to get (trial or purchase) and the map can be obtained for free from Malsingmap website/forum.

H1 ROM is available but not at the Service Centre. Google to find out more.

Overall, H1 ROM gets the unit faster and stable WiFi connection to hotspots.
