guys need help,

i just upgrade my iphone to 1.1.4 and unlock it using ziphone

so far so good, but i encounter 1 problem. It seems that my iphone could not detect edge signal.

I'm using maxis, and if i'm not mistaken the edge setting is:
APN: unet
username:maxis
password:wap

when i key in the above details in the setting, it cannot connect to edge. keep giving me this message, ' could not activate edge'.There is a blue box but no 'E' sign.

without the above setting, i can connect to internet but the connection is very slow!

I am an edge subscriber, and before I upgrade i have no problem with edge.

any ideas what's wrong?

If there is an EDGE signal, there should be an "E" sign shown regardless of whether you activated EDGE for your Maxis/Digi account or not. As long as the phone detects an EDGE signal, the "E" will be displayed. Have you tried running EDGE on other phones to see if it's Maxis' problem?

try net instead of unet

coz for my case...when i key in unet it just couldn't connect to edge...but after i changed to net then it's ok~

From what i hear from other forumers, use 'unet' if u have 3G simcard or something like dat. Use 'net' if u have the old sim card. I'm not sure about this since i don't use edge much ... YET.

if you are using the new 3g sim card from maxis and had your 3g service deactivated (by calling 123 or via sms), you have to place it with net and not unet.


but for hotlink customers, just stick to net.


most blackberry phones require u to deactivate 3g first. if not, there will be a lot of problems upon subscribing to the blackberry internet services

how to let itunes backup contact picture, etc..when im going restore?

It backups everything, which is related to your contacts, automatically, when you sync your iPhone every first time you plug in

notice that syncing only backups every first time you plug in,

if you plug in and sync for a few times, it only backups & rmbs the first time's sync.

if you want to make changes to your backup,

simply plug out & plug in again, before syncing + backuping

Im sure thats what most of us did when we got ours as well (album cover)

To perform a backup upon your next syncing, do the following.

1. Edit -> Preference
2. Syncing tab
3. Remove the most recent backup
4. Perform sync and check the date of the recent backup in the preference again.

(Remember to enable Photo backup in the iPhone menu

yup just realise that the problem is with maxis. I went to city centre and can connect to edge just find. Maybe there's something wrong with the edge signal near my home

i got facing a problem here,
when i after finish restore n backup...
yeah..all my contact still here..
but in the same time, i got the person contact
when i call him just show the number only? why not show the name? somemore message also face the problem!

maybe u need to install AppSupport Patch. find in Installer.

if u get a solid block without the "E" inside it, it means that the signal is only GPRS and not EDGE.

Since EDGE handsets are all backwards compatible with GPRS radio towers (and vice versa) , so you can still use data but at super slow speeds only.


You can actually d/l some PNG file that replaces the iPhone's standard "solid block" with one thats got a G letter in it, ... if you're into modding iphone aesthetics ... hahaha

Actually the plain box of the GPRS is ugly. Why not just leave empty sign for GPRS signal and if there's EDGE signal, then just bring back the box with 'E' sign.

then how do u wanna indicate when there is actually no gprs? just gsm for phone calls/texts

If not maybe just put a G in the box.

Added on April 20, 2008, 10:49 pmBtw, most area throughout the states already have GPRS widely covered so don't worry about signal coverage. Only EDGE has signal coverage limitation in some places or states.
