For Firmware 1.1.4, Bootloader 4.6, Baseband 4.02,
1) Restore to 1.1.4 using iTunes
2) Activate and Jailbreak ONLY using ziPhone v2.5c
3) Unlock ONLY using ziPhone v2.3

For Firmware 1.1.4, Bootloader 3.9, Baseband 4.05,
1) Restore to 1.1.4 using iTunes
2) Press the Do-it-all button on ziPhone v2.5c

"

Hey guys, have some questions. If my friend helps me get an iPhone from the US now, the firmware has to be 1.1.4 right? Is there
a way of checking? Also, how do I know the bootloader and baseband versions?

If it's 1.1.4, I just have to follow the above steps right? As in, download ziPhone v2.5c, connect the iPhone using the USB dock to my laptop and just click do it all?

Sorry, totally clueless on all this. Appreciate your help! smile.gif

guys, i got a question. how much will i be taxed if i were to ask someone to buy an iphone from us and courier it to me?
*
A lot! Haha, that's all I will say, I wanted to the same but after doing some research, found out that SIRIM+customs tax will cost you about RM4-500, not including your wasted time and costs to travel here and there to SIRIM and KLIA.

Customs are smart as well, they know an iPhone when they see one! IMO, it's just not worth the risk to courier it back here.

It's just not worth it, you might as well get it from local sellers if you wanna courier. About the same price, maybe cheaper, can check the phone for problems and if the seller's nice, he'll unlock for you as well. If your friend's coming back to Malaysia, ask him to carry it on him and use as a personal belonging.

I think the following sticky posts would be useful:

1) Jailbreak/Activate/Unlock steps (duh)
2) Essential Apps (BSD Subsystem, AppSupport, iBrickr etc)
3) Source Lists

The cost of living here doesnt suck. I grew up living all over the world n I always tell my friends there's  still no place like home. Only those who havent tried will say that standard of living in Msia sucks coz the grass is always greener on the other side. Try living in England, a lot of ppl oni tok about cheap cars n what not, just try n buy a hse in England. A small lil puny hse in a middling neighbourhood costs GBP300k = rm2 million. For rm2 million we can have a bungalow here.
*
Well, by your argument, even the food is expensive, fried rice is about 5 pounds or RM30.

However, pound for pound, the things there are more affordable though admittedly real estate in England, London in particular, is mad expensive. Everything else, however, is alright, provided you work in England. Ditto that for the US..

You can get for example, french connection shirts for 15 pounds, you can only afford pasar malam shirt for RM15, macbook for 700 pounds, hehe what laptop do you want for RM700? Food's about the same though.

That has got to be the most illogical argument I've ever seen. 1st u say GBP5  fried rice is equal to rm30. Then u go on to compare GBP15 tshirt equals rm15 tshirt. Then GBP700 compared to rm700 laptop. LOLZ!!!!!!!!  Whatever happened to the conversion rate I wonder............  GBP700=rm4500. U cannot get a Macbook for rm4500?  U cannot get a FCUK tshirt for rm100?????    LOLZ.  As I said only ppl who dunno always say grass is always greener.

Anyway, this is waaaaaaaaaaay of topic. back to iPhones.
*
It is way off topic, but I have to put in a final word. The conversion rate thing is YOUR argument, not mine. We're talking about cost of living here, so we have to compare salaries earned in the currency of the nations in question. A fresh graduate in the UK earns about 2000GBP, let's assume that a typical Malaysian graduate earns RM2000.

Now let's compare the buying power of RM/GBP 2000 in their respective countries. Hence the french connection/macbook argument. 2000GBP can get you FCUK shirts and laptops in the UK but what can RM2000 get you in Malaysia? So life in the UK is actually better than in Malaysia pound for pound. I hope you see where I am coming from? Do not be so hasty to slam my argument as illogical.

But, agreed that it's way off topic. Back to iPhones... tongue.gif

try using isms? but i think i still prefer using the default sms app.
*
Haha, the thing with the iPhone is, typing words is so much more fun with the keyboard than with 0-9 keys, so I tend to say more/not use short forms. As a result, I exceed my 160 character/sms all the time (no way of knowing cz the default sms app doesnt do char counts).

Sigh... Haha..

I really dont understand y so many ppl obsess over the "others" file. It's such a small fraction of total memory n it's not like memory is scarce on the iPhone. We have another 7gb+ to play with n even more for those on 16gb.
*
Amen to that, it's part of my pet peeves, along with people insisting on calling ipod touch, itouch..

i have a question here, do we need a special software to sync music from another computer without erasing the existing songs in our iphone? any suggestions? tq
*
If you just wanna transfer songs and videos, go to iTunes and select "manually manage songs and music" (something to that effect)

Then, when you plug into another computer, just drag and drop the files you want into your iPhone..

Hi, noob here.
Can you elaborate more how I'm going to drag and drop? Interested to know! TQ
*
First, you have to plug your iPhone/iPod in (duh)

Then, after iTunes detects your device, click on the "iPhone" or "iPod" section of iTunes.

You should be able to see an option to "manually manage music and videos", check that box

Now everytime you want to add music or videos to your device, just drag the files over to your device name ("iPhone", "My iPhone" or whatever you name your device) and drop it...

Also, it will no longer automatically sync your files when you plug it into another computer...

Simple as that..

i saw in LYN before that said that Iphone will be launch at singapore in this september?
Is it real?
Then if buy at there the warranty will be more easier becoz it is near.
*
Warranty will of course be easier because it's Singapore and if there is a problem, it's just a 4-5 hour drive, right? Wrong, unfortunately. First of all, unlocking/jailbreaking voids the warranty. Secondly, if it's anything like the US, which I'm sure it will be, they will only repair your phone if you have an active contract, which you won't because you're unlocking it.

Yes. There is no warranty for the iPhone so it's important you understand this.

Hey is it worth it to buy it now? Since there is alot of news about the iPhone 3G coming out. I'm afraid that I'll regret getting one now after the 3G iPhone comes out. Maybe more feature? How much will the current iPhone price drop when the 3G iPhone come out.. Will anyone buy the current iPhone once the 3G iPhone launched?

Btw, is there any chance that I can replace the battery? Like my battery's dead or spoiled. Can it be replaced?
*
Only you will know if it's worth buying. Do you need 3G? What can possibly be in the new iPhone that will convince you to wait? If you think the current iPhone is good enough, then go for it. If not, wait it out.

Noone knows about the price drop but if the sellers in Malaysia are smart, they will keep the iPhone price steady and sell the 3G iPhone for a higher price. But knowing the ah beng sellers who only know how to price war, expect to see RM1300-RM1500 for the older iPhone. This is all purely speculation though.

You can replace the battery but it will have to be DIY. Or you can pay someone to get it done for you. Not going to be cheap, though.

QUOTE(nikyas @ Apr 20 2008, 03:03 AM)
guys need help,

i just upgrade my iphone to 1.1.4 and unlock it using ziphone

so far so good, but i encounter 1 problem. It seems that my iphone could not detect edge signal.

I'm using maxis, and if i'm not mistaken the edge setting is:
APN: unet
username:maxis
password:wap

when i key in the above details in the setting, it cannot connect to edge. keep giving me this message, ' could not activate edge'.There is a blue box but no 'E' sign.

without the above setting, i can connect to internet but the connection is very slow!

I am an edge subscriber, and before I upgrade i have no problem with edge.

any ideas what's wrong?
*
If there is an EDGE signal, there should be an "E" sign shown regardless of whether you activated EDGE for your Maxis/Digi account or not. As long as the phone detects an EDGE signal, the "E" will be displayed. Have you tried running EDGE on other phones to see if it's Maxis' problem?
