I've managed to change the name of SMS ringtones...

Here's how...

1. SSH into /private/var/Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj and copy the Sounds.string file to your PC
2. convert the Sounds.string file using http://140.124.181.188/~khchung/cgi-bin/plutil.cgi
3. open the converted Sounds.string file using WordPad or any other editor
4. change the SMS ringtone names into your preference and save changes
5. copy back the amended Sounds.string file back to your phone (make a copy of your original Sounds.string file, e.g. rename it into Sounds.string.original)
6. done!

All 6 SMS ringtones are located at /System/Library/Audio/UISounds with names from sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf [with corresponding name Tri-Tone etc.], Google for ways to create SMS ringtones if you have no idea how to do it...

This is the MMS and Edge settings that Maxis send to me. I had tried out with Swirly MMS, no problem.

EDGE settings

Menu -> Settings -> General -> Network

EDGE - APN: net
              Username: maxis
              Password: wap

How To Download SwirlyMMS

From iPhone Main Menu > Select Installer

And you will see Categories Menu
    Select Network
    After that select SwirlyMMS and select install
    After successfully install the software, you will see SwirlyMMS icon on the iPhone Main Menu

For MMS setting > Select SwirlyMMS icon
    After select setting
    You need to enter the details as follow:-
    MMSC : http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc
    Proxy : 202.075.133.049
    Apn : net or unet
    Username : maxis
    Password : wap
    Select Save to save the setting
*

iPhone's SMS ringtones are xxx.caf, you need to convert your file to caf (search for that).

Simply type what you want your SMS ringtone to appear in your phone, e.g. I replaced Horn with Sheep / Announcement with Electronic

Actually u can convert with itunes like u do with ringtones. iTunes will convert to m4a then locate the file. Just change the extension from XXX.m4a to XXX.caf.

Been busy this couple of days. Bila pulak thread nie kena tutup? Now re-open back. BTW i oso sudah vote (mcm pilihanraya pulak) to have a sub-forum. Atleast it would be organize ... not like now.

Did u optimized the AppSupport after u install it? Sometimes when u have alot of sms, it takes time for appsupport to search the number to match with the name.

You have to rename your own file as any of the sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf and replace the original caf files. For example if you want your own SMS ringtone to occupy the first slot (Tri-tone), you have to name your own file as sms-received1.caf and SSH into its place.

If I'm not mistaken there's no way to add an additional SMS ringtone slot, hence the need to modify SMS ringtone namelist.

I really miss customize for this feature. If not ... really easy to change the sms tone. BTW customize 2.0 is in ALPHA stage. They r really testing to work out alll the bugs before release.
