QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Mar 26 2008, 09:17 PM) Fantastic. Thanks for opening up the thread as I got a newbie question.... OK...Can someone pls explain to me in layman terms what is the significance of the bootloader. I read that there's bootloader v3.9 and now it's bootloader v4.6.... What version bootloader SHOULD I have? I've already read thru this whole thread...yes...all 90 pages of it...and still confused. I just don't want to screw up the software on my new iPhone such that I would not be able to upgrade to future firmware updates. Is it safe to just run Ziphone latest version and click on DO IT ALL??? I know that this option will DOWNGRADE the bootloader. What does this mean? Is downgrading the bootloader good or bad? Aiyah...hope someone can advise. I am currently having syncing problems with my iPhone and just want to restore and unlock the iPhone again and see if that fixes my problem. Just not sure what is the best way to do it. Appreciate ANY advise from the iPhone gurus here. Many thanks in advance. This post has been edited by neverenuff: Mar 26 2008, 09:37 PM |

I know i said that i didnt want to upgrade mine until Firmware 2.0, but circumstances dictates it.
What happened you asked? One fine evening(a.k.a 2 days ago), while i was enjoying the sunset with my beloved's family in FL, the iPhone made a boo-boo on itself, and refuses to respond at my touch. Upon plugging it in, a quick check on iTunes reveal also that all the music and videos and photos have turned itself into "Others", which complicates things further. I was still on 1.1.1, revirginized , and since i needed to use this while im here, i took the iPhone into recovery mode, and ir naturally prompted to get me the 1.1.4. Since it is on recovery, i'd figure "what the hell", and went 1.1.4 on mine, and looked at my options on which unlocking procedures to go through. Only two came out of this:- ZiPhone and iPlus. Tried the Ziphone after Firmware 1.1.4 was loaded. Very user-friendly, and foolproof, even to noobs and idiots. Click the "Do It All!" button and all was done in 4 minutes. But fast here, it seems, does not equal to efficient. Upon restarting the phone, at the Apple logo, horizontal lines glitches over, but still loads to the Springboard. Looking into Installer, updating Sources, and trying to install new apps gives "Package dowload Failed" message. After wrestling with this for an hour, and after reverting back to the original unlocked state, and starting all over, with either "jailbreak only", "jailbreak + activate" or the whole "Do It All" shebang, ends up with same glitch and errors in Installer. Enter iPlus. Yup, more command-line based than Ziphone, although what's happening in the background looks fairly similar with Ziphone, but guess what? ZERO problems with the previous glitch and Installer works like a charm. Long story short, my 1.1.1 BL3.9 8GB iPhone works better with iPlus 2.0b than ZiPhone 2.6. Go figure! |

QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Mar 19 2008, 12:34 AM) Ok ... done. Install swapphoto 1.0 from installer. SSH and rename the swapPhotoLibrary.sh to swapPhotoLibrary.sh.OLD for backup in /Applications/SwapPhoto. Copy this patch to dat directory and change permission to 755. Dat should do it. The old one point to the /private/var/root/media rather that /private/var/mobile/media. QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Mar 25 2008, 06:57 PM) Swap photo for 1.1.4 not working properly. It still look for the folder /private/var/root/Media/Photo. 1.1.4 store the photos in /private/var/mobile/Media/Photo. Install swap photo then replace the swapPhotoLibrary.sh with the one I'd modified. Look in previous post .. i oso forgot. Frozzbyte .. Thanks. It work. Just as easy as changing the root to mobile only.* Look post #1223 si fu si fu... |
