Hi guys. I plan to install plaster ceiling in my renovations.

Price quoted (the RM2.30/sq feet) from what I understand from here does not include painting.
Need painting ah?? I thought all "kaw thim," need further process after installation??

What is the minimum distance allowed between fan blade and down light to avoid the flickering light effect?

My ceiling is low so I was wondering,

What is the minimum distance between ceiling and plaster ceiling (no lights installed, only fan hook)?

What is the distance required between ceiling and plaster ceiling for different types of plaster ceiling lights?

Any indication of the different types of plaster lighting cost?

1) Normally the quoted price didn't included Painting and you will see the jointed between two board, hence that the reason it need to paint.
2) if possiable 2.5 feet away
3) I guess you meant No downlight instead of No Light. Fan Hook will require at least 3 inch (wood 1"x 2") except you want to use more think wood
4) It depend on what light you using... If you use downlight than 6 inch or 4 inch, bulk is vertical or horizotal type, or you light is hang type...
5) Plaster lighting cost? What you meant? wire / light point / downlight ???

Price:
LED>T5>T8

Brightness, T5 is better than T8 but not much, marginal. T5 win in slim design. Led, I have not see any LED strip impress me on the brightness, but shock me on the wallet.

Comparison you can read below. I find is very neutral.

T5 vs LED

T5 vs LED Part II

LED, driver is the show killer.

yup, i search around best price is rm20 for 4ft philip T5 and below as well.

rm15 = 1ft
rm17 = 2ft
rm18 = 3ft

one thing i need to ask, have u overlap the T5 by using the joint cable some along when installation in L-box?

During my plaster ceiling renovation, I noticed that even the board are classfied as 9mm, but the quality is totally different. Initial those I buy through volumes are more solid and not ease to tied off, and some more behind of the board have SIRIM signed (cost RM8.80@). Than because short of 10 pcs, hence I just get from nearest shop which cost RM 9.40@pc, but when I check this monring noticed it was so soft and ease break, hence check with the Plaster ceiling folk, he said this is depend on company, as they may not use quality type of material even it was 9mm...

Perhaps you guys may want to check it out. 2 issues I could see is 1) Water leaking, than the cheap type may gone faster 2) When you want to replaced your downlight, as it need to force out may endup the plaster ceiling drop of a bit ( this is what I noticed when I tied on the downlight hole vmad.gif

RM 20 for 4ft is cheap. The joint cable should do the trick of connecting the t5.

But make me wonder if we have 30ft L box, do we put 30ft Light, or maybe 20ft will do with some 6" gab between each light. Anyone care to share?

not 20ft. infact u may end up 32ft of light... as u need to overlap each lap by at least 1" in order to get a nice effect. By leaving 6" gap in between will leave a dark spot and will be very ugly.

Oh, thank you. If 4ft = 28watt, 32ft give me about 224 watt of light. Cool I light it bright biggrin.gif

Added on August 16, 2011, 11:14 amHmm, maybe i can use T5-HO. Can double the brightness biggrin.gif

I just use the normal T8...put inside the l box no ppl can see...so no bother it is slim o not.

I buy GE 4' T8 + ballast = RM10/set...can sure it can last long than T5.
It just like your normal house T8 u using now, how many times u change in year? i think my house did not change it for past 3 year...every day on at night.

In thise case i have 20 T8 then need 20 ballast as well, so the wiring guy need more job compare to T5 come with cable connector.

for kitchen cabinet then i will use T8.

Thanks Jo_da48 notworthy.gif

1) Hee Hee-I thought they cement another layer of plaster over the board.
2) Then my small ceiling area not suitable for fan and down lights.
3) Yes, you are right.
4) Oh you mean if I use down light then the distance between the ceiling and the plaster board is 4" or 6" depending on downlight type. "bulk is vertical or horizontal type" - what is this??
5) Diffrent downlight type cost.- round type 4", 6", square type, small 2 inch round type ..... Need to know cost diffrence to plan what to use and what to avoid.

That one they use to close those line between board or gaps is "Stopping Compound" (included on your bill). Than the Painter will use : Maxilite (This need to pay)
4) Oh you mean if I use down light then the distance between the ceiling and the plaster board is 4" or 6" depending on downlight type. "bulk is vertical or horizontal type" - what is this??
Sorry, BULB. You could downlight Bulb either vertical (6-7 inch) or Horizontal (4-5 inch high)
5) Diffrent downlight type cost.- round type 4", 6", square type, small 2 inch round type ..... Need to know cost diffrence to plan what to use and what to avoid.
You need to hunt around, as different shop different price...

T5 lifespan is greater or equal to T8.
