if they not bringing in new stock, and old 863 & 663 finito liao...when the new series will be available in M'sia? desa HT listed their selling price for 863 at RM2999 + free Marantz HDMI dvd player..was very tempted but now...since got new models...hhhrrmm....new think twice...

btw, why so difficult to get a BLACK color yammy amp?? most AV shops carry the silver color unit...when ask bout black unit, they say need to special order...why ar?? majority ppl like black color right?? silver looks a bit off lerr...if anyone know local yamaha distributor very well, can u kindly pass the word??? that we prefer black color units...dun just bring silver color units in...

Yamaha Malaysia pricing strategy is always very good. It is almost identical unlike Denon and Onkyo. Probably due to its own control and not through distributor (after all, they need to 'survive')

Probably May. News is that they are trying to get in by end next month as 663 is almost out of stock.

looks like 765=663 & 1065=863 but both new models have 4 hdmi inputs which makes them superior than their predecessor.. thumbup.gif..how bout the pricing? will the 765 cost as much as the 663?

Hey dudes.. just got my RX-V663, pairing it with Monitor Audio BR2 Fronts and Mordaunt Short 905i Centre.. as for the sub, i'm currently using the Monitor Audio BW10, i have a unit of RS12 with me currently, now having a headache between both of the subs.. the BW10 is just nice for my room.. but when the bass digs deeper, the wind noise is quite audible as it's a ported sub. The RS12 is a sealed sub and the bass is just wonderful.. the problem is.. does the price justifies the difference ? it's about 80% more from the BW10 sweat.gif

Your 663's power capable enuf for your BR2 & MS centre ? How bout surround ?

I will have just a few hours in Kuala Lumpur at the end of the month. Hoping to buy a Yamaha RX-V665 - I believe it will be available by then.
slightly out of topic, I will be also looking for a Sony compact digital camera such as DSC-W290.

What is a good reliable place in KL to buy the latest Yamaha AVR receivers at the best price, and where they sell cameras also ?
Somebody had suggested Bukit Bintang plaza. Is it a good location to find the yamaha receivers and the cameras ?

Heard someone said Yammy avr handling of surround and LFE is better than Onkyo, Denon, Marantz and etc. Is there truth in it? hmm.gif

Depending on which model.

Normally, each have their 'trademark' characteristic:

Yamaha - Balance of music and movie. Aint the most powerful bass. Good surr steering.

Denon - excellent surr steering with ample clarity. Not so good in music.

Marantz - Always too safe on bass for movie. Music, no need to mention since it's renowned for it.

Onkyo - Heavy bass. Surr steering is good

Does anybody know whether Yamaha feature called Digital Top Art actually means anything in real life ?
I am considering whether to buy RX-V565 or RX-V665. The only useful extra feature that the RX-V665 has, is the Digital Top Art.
But is are they really using better components or circuits? Or is it just marketing name to sell for higher price?

no, not really.
if you are using computer to play the HD movie to connect your avr. everyone know the best connection is HDMI.
in order to transmit the HD bitstream, currently only Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 are possbile while Auzetech HDMI card still pending....
if you connect via onboard HDMI or ATI/NVIDIA HDMI card, the best these device can do is only 7.1 PCM. not support HD bitstream because there is lack of PAP. therefore all your HD/Blu-ray playback from your computer will downgrade to DVD audio quality only when transmit to your HD AVR.

currently for me it's seems okay.. now thinking about using the BR2 as surround and get a better floorstander for my front sweat.gif

just shoved an old t-shirt into the port of my BW10 and crank up the volume of the sub.. sounded a hell lot better now laugh.gif forget the RS12..
