Hi, I'm a newbie looking for Yammy AVR's. My target currently is RX-V663, but the website stated RX-V665 is gonna make a debut soon. Anybody have any idea on the pricing? The V663 is retailing at RM 1800 - 1900. Tx RX-V665 SOURCEThis post has been edited by Jenn77: Mar 3 2009, 11:18 AM

Hi, I'm just starting up my setup - and have already bought 5 B&W M-1s for my 18' X 16' living room. I haven't bought AVR or subwoofer yet, will probably get a CHT-10Q (condo, so i think 10Q should be ok) Am thinking between RX-V863 or Marantz 50031. usage Music / Movies - 50% 50% Although movies are more important for me especially dialogue and then of course explosion sounds 2. Upscaling to 1080 is also important 3. Compatability/convenience with Harmony Remote - also need to consider but not very important. What do you guys think? RX-V863 or Marantz 5003I suppose price is about the same right

the SR5003 would sound better for music, for movies, a lil soft on LFE but can be tweaked....I hv done a lil tweaking on my SR6003 and it's much better now.
and mind you, the Yamaha x63 series does not pass BTB/WTW, so the PQ details on black scene might not be as good as the Marantz
the Yammy's upscale quality is a tag better than the Maranzt (compared to my old RX-V861)
Compatibility with the Harmony should not be any problem for both ( I am using URC RF20)

Looking at the newer model of V663 & 863, wonder why they reduced the RMS Any upcoming model for V1900?

Marantz SR6003 is a good option. But if you prefer Yamaha, than go for RX-V663 even 863, Since the price so reasonable now. Don't wait for new model. When the 665/765 available will expensive in the first stage, quality also...... decide yourself.

Well IAANM, I did a comparison on 663 and 665, 665 have 2 additional HDMI slots which I would say is quite significant. Btw, whats the latest price for 863?

Actually it's not just because of more input terminal but build quality would be different. Higher price also. I have no idea in KL, could be around RM2900+/-

Well, then 863 shud be out of my budget.. I think I will stick to V663, if v665 cost a little bit more, I might stretch my funds. In the YAMAHA website it stated the same price of the V663, hopefully its not too high.

(unless you consider other brand or range) I can't tell you the reason, but just take my suggest, you wouldn't regret.

I repeat ... there is no intentional program data contained in these ranges for any of broadcast, cable or satellite TV, DVDs, BD or HD-DVDs. All cable and satellite set-top boxes and DVD and BD-HD-DVD players are "limited" (16-235) by default/design.
I've said many, many times and say it again: the entire BTB issue is a red herring!!
Unless you are trying to use a 0-255 ("full") source (being a computer) together with a display capable of and calibrated to 0-255 ("full"), then the RX-V663 will work perfectly, as designed.
But, if you were using a display calibrated to 0-255 ("full"), it then would not be properly setup to work with any standard broadcast, cable or satellite TV, DVD, BD or HD-DVD players.
The correct approach would be to set your computer source to 16-235 ("limited") output and everything would, again, work perfectly.
Anyone can clarify this?
