http://www.glumbert.com/wii/view.php?name=baddayoffice

hoho. I think i'll try to call matriculation and see if I can register a little bit late to make a better choice.

mybe after finish learning architecture, i'll learn mechanical engineering myself. with an architect mind, i can design. with engineering part after learning, I can design and built my own stuff. Architecture will be a good path for me to be an inventor.

huahuahua. since u're an architect, do most architects are romantic person? because as far as i know, people who have interest in art usually a romantic people.

wonder if there is any architect out there that have same behaviour like the cool+jerk Dr. House. he's jerk. but i think he's inspired many people to become a doctor. hoho.

i. most architects are expressive. they are very good at displaying affection, and not embarrassed to show that they love another person. this can be very dangerous if u're against a PLAYA who's an architect haha.

ii. ALL architects think that they're dr. house personified. havent met one who didnt think so about themselves, even one bit.

maybe, but u cant expect everyone interested in architecture to grow in LYN specifically hahaha. i've got a few who contacted me directly from my contacts in LYN, but they've never involved in the discussion at all.

@azarimy

from ur contact in UTM, how many post-SPM 2007 students went for UTM interview this year?

from all of my friends in SBP, i think architecture begin to lost it's popularity. imagine, out of 136 student in STJ(my old school). i think, beside me, there's only 2 pr 3 people seem to have interest in architecture. even there is one guy whom his father is an architect dun want to be an architect. hoho. i'm not forcing him to be just like his father. just that architecture begin to fade away from kids nowadays. it seems they've not be given enough exposure towards architecture. school nowadays just expose their students towards engineering and medic.

to tell u the truth, architecture was never popular in malaysia. from my own school back in 1995, about 350 SPM leavers, but only 6 applied for architecture. 2 made in UTM, 1 in UiTM. that's it.

in 2004 we did tabulate the percentage of each school. the most that ever applied from one school was 16. average is about 2-6 students. so as u can see, the number had been small consistently throughout the years. so we cant really say it's losing its popularity. it was never popular to begin with wink.gif.

based from my 11 years of being in school, school focus more on making more engineer and doctor. 2 years in SBP, i've never heard any motivator or speech or anything that mention architecture. absolute zero. also, i never remember my teacher LK teacher in sbp ever mention about architecture.

only after spm i browse through LYN jobs&career and come across architecture thread. then you provide the link for the discussion in this thread. that is how my interest towards architecture begin. I never thought of thinking of choosing architecture as one of my future career besides engineering. because it is always in my mind that architect need to be good in drawing since their just a small kids. when i was in primary school, lots of kids want to be an architect besides engineer and doctor(i dun belong to either one of this group since i want to be president or nuclear-bomb researcher at that time tongue.gif ). when began to move to secondary school. most of the thought to be an architect fade. none of my old friends want to be an architect. i also began to change towards engineering. now my interest is strongly towards architect. that strong interest also build my mind to make more ideas smile.gif

hoho. but lack of architect in Malaysia is somehow good. as the time pass by, architect might be in a great demand and employer will pay us better in order to get our service. mwahaha. but many architect students is good. sometime, fresh & young mind can bring many great ideas.

@azarimy, could you elaborate more on architecture related freelancing job for people who already have architecture degree.

if u can, can you please provide freelancing example for people with diploma too.

tanx in advance.

PS: by the time i reply in this thread, what is the tym in sheffield?

normally, graduates would go into architectural support services. some of them are:

i. design services
ii. plotting/printing
iii. visualization (3D, perspectives etc)
iv. model making
v. architectural photography
vi. draftmanship

there's no difference whether u hold a diploma or degree here.

it's 1.27am at the time u edited ur post. yes, it's normal for architects to stay up late, even after graduating. midnight is the best time to race online in GT5prologue.

ofcourse. this happens all the time actually. lecturers have a very good view on the capabilities of the students, and have the privilege to choose which students are best for the job. draftmanship and technical drawings are almost always be handed to poly students, while 3D visualizations are usually given to those who're computer savvy. but most of the jobs are back room jobs, meaning, jobs that dont require u to be involved with the clients, authorities, suppliers or other consultants. dont get me wrong, it's perfectly legal. back room are just jobs that dont require u to go out.

bbut like bridgestone've said, u dont usually have time for it. maybe early in the semester or during breaks, but definitely not during mid to end sem, coz u hardly have time to do anything else - even take bath.

are u currently in taylors for their architecture programme? diploma or degree?

may i know how is it there? i'm checking out on ucsi, limkokwing and taylors for their architecture programme.

thanks smile.gif

Hi, I am sorry for the late reply; I have been busy in the last few days.

Regarding your question;

Yes, I am currently in Taylor's Diploma in Architectural Technology program.

Regarding the conditions there;

Currently, there are about 80+ students from the March intake, so the classrooms, studios, and lecture theaters are often jammed packed. Surprisingly, the main auditorium was spacious enough to contain the entire student's population from the School of Architecture & Building Design (The QS, CM, and ID students included). But to make matters even more exciting, we will be combining with 80+ other students from the January intake this coming July. Most importantly, the lecturers, whom some were quite professional, are good; they are knowledgeable in their subjects, firm, eloquent, particular, confident, flexible, helpful, concerned, and observant.

At present, I am at the fourth week of the program. Surely, there would be more to come as I advance in my Architecture education at Taylors.

Good luck in searching for an institute of higher learning for Architecture.

I am satisfied with Taylor's Architecture program.

gosh!! saw your post and straightaway went to check my mail...i got it too! ^^

but i applied for Archi and Industrial Design and it's stated in my email that 'the test will be conducted in 4 different venues'. so i was just wondering...are you required to go to 4 places too? or is it 2 places for Archi and 2 for Industrial Design? hmm.gif

also i have sth to ask bout UTM's interview: are we allowed to use mechanical pencils to draw? i mean, i know we're told to bring 2B pencils, but i really don't like using them...cos' the lines tend to get broader by the end of the stroke sad.gif haih. but i guess it's not really 'professional' to use mechanical pencils, huh? ...or maybe it's exactly the skill of using 2B pencil to draw and Yet draw out even lines that really shows your, er, 'pro'-ness? blink.gif ....i think i'm talking nonsense =.=

neway, i just talked to my friend who went to USM's Archi interview and she said they actually asked her bout 'who's the CM of Penang?' 'who's the menteri besar of Selangor?' 'who's the menteri besar of Kedah?' she was so shocked...in the end she only managed to answer questions about Penang...(we're penangites-- mah ^^) ...will questions like these come out in UTM's interview? i mean, did they ask bout current issues in the past years? i know as malaysians we are supposed to know all these, but they didn't even ask her about local/international architects nor the basic question 'Why do you want to read architecture?'....That is what i call Weird >.< (plus my family only read chinese newspapers...now i have to go find out the menteri-menteri's names in eng =.=)

No idea about the venues honestly. I will be attending the interview at least, though I'm more or less set on doing engineering at Purdue.

Btw, how do we check our admission status for local unis?

EDIT: Oh damn I found I got UTM's interview too! And its in TWO freaking days! Damn I thought they'd email me....

hi sir azarimy,

i'd only be able to skip 1 semester the most? hwaaa T_T anyway,if there's seeeeeriously no choice at all, i would't mine starting from the 1st sem just like everybody else. as long as i'd be able to study in the field that i really really love and have a passion for, it'd be fine by me.

owh, wow! you have such an impressive achievements! did u continue your study in masters using your own money? and, did u work as a lecturer or an archictect after you've finished your degree? (before furthuring ur studies in masters)

and i was wondering what's the usual starting sallary of an architect and an interior designer? also, i heard that architecture-graduates who end up as model makers have high incomes. is that true?

and oh oh, i have one more question for today. can u pls tell me what's the difference between interior designing, interior decorating and interior architecture?

btw, thanx for praying for me. haha
