SPM is worthless in Australia.

The unis will only ask for your year 12/A levels/IB/pre-uni..etc scores. They won't even consider SPM for scholarships.

Lol Empire23, and that was which year?
I supposed that was prior to SPM 2001.
After that, things got much better when "Musang Hitam" got replaced.

Hey guys, what is the most reputable university in Australia for engineering, namely computer engineering or electrical engineering. I have an offer from UNSW and ANU but everyone keeps saying they are the best, I don't know which one to apply to....

Thinking of doing commerce as a double degree as well. Thanks.

They are both just as good. If you are getting into ANU's gifted Computer Science program, then definitely go for that (because it's the only such program in Australia). Otherwise, I'd say UNSW is stronger in undergraduate studies, particularly for multi-discipline programs like Engineering and Commerce. UNSW's Engineering programs are renowned in Australia and the computing school has a pretty high profile and recognition in the industry. They do pioneer a lot of undergraduate Computing teaching that are being replicated by other unis across the country.

It should ultimately come down to whether you like staying in Canberra or you will prefer a more vibrant but costlier city like Sydney. It won't help studying in UNSW if you don't like Sydney or find the cost excessive. Likewise, ANU will not be a good choice if Canberra doesn't suit you.

I just used 100mb yesterday, still ok. Altogether use 300mb this month.

If you need more quota, just ask a postgrad buddy to help punch you into the unlimited quota zone citing research help. Simple lol.

What do you mean by that? Can you elaborate more?

Yesh, money is number one. Even RMIT will throw out the 3.0 requirement when you show them the cash.

Passing their exams is another story. Here the passing mark is 50 and recently they cut our time from 3 hours to 2 per paper. lol.

I'm not sure how its like for you in engineering, but the bulk of the papers we had in Comp Sci mainly requires only around 1.5 hours to finish off, despite the 3 hour timeline (except for those that requires a lot of writing).

The 1st hour more or less determines the passing point. Should a person not be able to get to the passing point by the 1st hour, then chances of failure is extremely high. The other 30 minutes is just to fill in the rest of the stuff that's skipped in the 1st hour.

There are many examples available from university career sites. These are better tailored for the Australian market and university students.

The engineering exams at USQ have about 4-5 main questions with each broken down into a few subsections.
Imagine you have to give short essays for each sub question(lots of writing to be done).

Assuming that you have 4 questions, how much time do you get with each question? 1/2 hour?
Split that with another 4 subsections, you get about 7-8 minutes to write short answers for each.Hardly you'll have anytime to think carefully..

Especially those 3rd-final year subjects, I've seen many who got tensed up towards the last 15 minutes struggling to complete what they want to write.

2 hours you can barely have time to check through your answers.I had a few subjects during my time which needed 3 yet I still couldn't complete them in time.

Although the exam questions are long and the time relatively short, I believe they are looking for a balance between accuracy and speed of response. It always seems like a strategy to me where you attempt to get the accuracy as high as possible for higher-weighted questions and speed through the lower-weighted ones. There are many times I didn't manage to finish the paper, but I didn't screw up the exams either despite not completing all questions in the paper. As long as you have at done at least 80% correctly, you should be better off than writing BS responses for half the paper and completing it on time.
