i was told that for tiles, have to be careful... the price quoted maybe only for tiles...but labour charge will cost you about 50% more as well...

firstly you need to know what you want to do with your house- check out ID sites, magazines, forums. then it's important to prioritize the renovation items
e.g. 1. kitchen 2. wardrobe 3. plaster ceiling 4. retiling bathroom etc then look for a contractor (best to get recommendation from friends). make sure you get the full quote form the contractor and ensure no hidden cost before he begins work for you it's important to be flexible and suggest other alternatives because most of the time, when the quote hits you, it could be overbudget so you'll need to tweak your requirements a little (std tradeoff- forego renovation item for money savings) try to control your contractor i.e. suggest things to him, dont let him suggest to you. whatever he suggest is usually something he can do with less effort and many of them may not be updated with the latest trends from europe and america. i suggest you get pictures/photos off the net/mags to show your contractor else whatever you describe could be very wrongly interpreted (trust me, this happens all the time) some tips on where to get what: bathroom fittings: jln ipoh lighting: far east esteem, sri kembangan tiles: apex tiles, jln ipoh furniture: lorenzo, cavenzi, rozel, g.d.o (make sure you go only during sale which is 9 mths in a year anyway. these brand names are always trying to clear stock or sell off their display items and you could get really good deals) if you're interested in home furnishing, you could check out my new blog about interior design and home decoration ideas. i'm also a recent homeowner and therefore would like to share ideas and findings with the rest of you in my blog. |

At least you can budget around there... 1. Kitchen - RM8k 2. Rooms built in cabinet - RM7k/room 3. Toilet - RM7k/toilet ; yes! someone told me toilet is that expensive! 4. Flooring - RM20k or less including tiles and labour (around 2000sq ft area) estimate only 5. Plaster Ceiling - RM1.5k per ceiling (room cheaper) 6. Electrical Wiring - RM6k 7. Plumbing - RM6k around there as well 8. House Painting - RM5k 9. Alarm : 10. Auto Gate : i'll try to update this list once i have the info for alarm and auto gate... |

My renovation estimation and cost. My house is DST btw
1. Grille (Wrought Iron) whole house excluding back exit - RM5K 2. Kitchen Cabinet (Tiles Top & Arcrylic) - RM12K, am I being cheated? (13 ft long, dont know how many square feet) including wiring and plumbing and inclusive of sink, bowl, hud and hob (elba) 3. plaster ceiling - RM2.8K + cornish for first floor ( + cornish only for kitchen) I have some question for you guys... 1- how much isit to dissassemble 2 units of fan and 2 units of aircond from my old house to my new house 2- How much would u guys estimate for lighting for my whole house? (the plaster ceiling guys only help to provide the wiring) 3- How much isit cost to have a backdrop like the picture below for your lcd? thanks kevyeoh for your message.
wat do you all think about concrete slab for roof? some extra space or extra risk of water leaks? by the way, wat are the pros and cons getting an ID to take care of everything versus hiring your own contractor to do it? besides the usual ID more expensive, and contractor can run away ............... |

QUOTE(nnpjj @ May 7 2008, 01:45 PM) hi merk, thanks for the info on the prices. Last year I redid the entire roof, ceiling and beams for a hse approximately 1620 sq feet ie. completedly change it all. Total ard 40Kfor the roof tiles, they are quite old, about 30+ years, thats why i think i may need to change them. based the price provided, i guess it should set me back at about 2-4K on the roof tiles alone any advatages to marbling the toilets instead of tiling ? price wise a lot diffrence ? as for pebble wash and cement render, i have not got any idea on this, any sample to share ? |
