heh, pretty quiet recently due to heat wave huh?
well, just in time for me to fill in a story for die hard fs lovers here.
Just a story about an adhoc hunt i had last tuesday. No plan at all. Was my off day and i have to sent a handphone back to my father-in-law cause he left it in my house when he came for a visit. Went all the way to Ampang(about 30km from my house) in the morning and just in the spur of the moment decided to scout around. i was driving my mum's car so i had absolutely no gear or containers whatsoever. I drove around to the edge of a forest reserve where many rich people stay around there and i spotted a nice free carpark(for a restaurant) which had nice growth at the sides where fs may strive. Directy opposite the carpark is actually the guard house of an expensive condo.
so yes, the people in their condo would be able to see wat i'm doing.
2nd pic can see the forest reserve in the background and at the left side, can see some shrubs growing on a fence where i hone in my fs radar ...Beyond the carpark on the left on much lower altitude is actually a golf course.
parked my car next to the fence and from the front of the fence i spotted a nice sized female.
2nd pic is the back of the fence facing the thick growth. ooo.... every fs fan would love this kind of place...
wah...very quickly i saw a white face looking up...such a nice feeling...haha
easy catch cuz the nest is formed from one leave and the leave stalk is easy to snap.
medium sized male...but one arm smaller. nice but doesn't look like king.
i scouted around and saw a couple of youngs and nice fat females, including a virgin female eating an ant...
not very long, standing at the same spot i caught the first male, i saw a second one... looks bigger...
easily catch by breaking the leaf stalks of its nest, doing so carefully as not to alarm it
wah, not bad, good size but unfortunately lost one side leg. hello, i'll name u Seevan then... for having seven legs.
notice how i handle everything with no tools except barehands while taking pics also. ah... after years of catching fs.
sure many fs bro here also can do the same.
anyway i let both the males fight in the nest, and needless to say, Seevan won hands down with just pushing. so i let off the "one arm-proper bandit". see size difference
something interesting which we commonly see, 1st male was staying with a very young juvenile in the same nest
Seevan, the 2nd male was staying with a baby! in the same nest.
this is possible because the smaller fs is able to insert itself in the narrower part of the nest where the bigger fs can't reach it. apparently the smaller fs doesn't run away maybe because it gets protection from the larger fs
ok, by now i probably only spent 15 minutes here, so i want to scout some more...but how about Seevan? i broke its nest. Well, now need to use a tool... picked a straw lying on the ground, patch it up, let Seevan go in and leave the make-shift nest on the ground. Its a cool cloudy morning(around 10am by now) and my instinct tells me he won't run away.
wah, i wearing only bermudas. so my legs are sunk into the deep leaf litter... dangerous...centipedes, snake?
saw a fat female and decided to collect it back
anyway, after searching for a while more, i didn't find anymore male so i decided to move to another spot..
ah...Seevan was still nicely in his psedo-nest, unaware he could make a easy escape from a mischievous human..
but hmm, how the heck am i going to transport these fellas(1 male and 2 fat females and 1 virgin female)?
i rummage thru some stuff in the boot and found these...haha!
the big container was empty and i stuffed it with leaves and put the 2 females in it.
aiya...the pill bag got a hole at the end.
well, no problem...i place Seevan in it along with the virgin female in the bag with a leave and place them like that in my bag(which i had only bills in a file ). The container sitting on the hole.
wala...no worries about fs running all over my mum's car and getting lost in it.
just a few meter away i found another nice spot... yummy full of wild pepper leaves..
very quickly just at the edge saw another male...but this one also got appendage problem! walau. anyway seems small, definately no match for Seevan, hence i let it past.
i was about to track downwards where suddenly i saw a "no trespasser" sign!
u know, i saw the the web and also saw the owner was actually sitting on a leaf near the ground. went i walked forward, in a split second the owner smacked itself right in the middle of the web! damn fast.
well anyway, i guess i better go by then, had spend about an hour and a half here, including driving around further up the road before coming here. not that i was afraid of this orb web spidey, but i had another good reason...want to go to toilet...
this spot i hardly explore.... sure got a king in there. ah well... i come back next time.
2 minutes drive, and i'm back in the city stuck in a minor jam.
a quick peek in my bag and i saw Seevan trying to woo the virgin female...
ok, time to concentrate on the road and head home.
wait wait. one more pic to share. an adult male monkey showing off his manhood. haha!
actually higher up the road closer to the forest reserve, there was this huge group of monkeys eating mandarin oranges placed by people who got sick of eating them during CNY. so i just took one pic while driving past this group with several fierce looking males.
