This thread started by mindstorm and viper88 has brought back memories of happy boyhood time! Very good movies of spider fight bouts. Unique. Nothing like it in the whole internet. Ground-breaking. Congratulations.
Since I had time this few weeks went to see if I still have the old FS catching skills. (I'm SG). At first nothing, not even a Bu! Then after a few days trying different times and places got 5 small to medium males. Productivity very low: look between 40 leaves catch one spider! Idea: size for FS same all animals, including people: follow bell-curve. So area that can support larger spider population will have more bigger males for same percentage (maybe only 1%). Where in Singapore have largest insect pop.? Nature reserves, reservoirs, bigger forests. Check street directory, then went to look. Inside jungle, nothing. Then check fringes, especially parks and roadsides next to large forested areas, start to get better results, but not uniform. Some bushes hot spots. From various places all over caught 10 males, 3 seem to be large. But not good fighters. Push, at most 1 chop. Keep them 1-2 weeks maybe turn fierce. Right now have no digicam, maybe try to get one. One day maybe have big fight competition!

Bro koppao, thanks for welcoming me. Free only for 1 more week. So anytime 24/07-02/08 would like to meet up to fight spiders. 3 males I have large size. Wasted if not fight them. After that will have to let them go. Very much like to video fights, but have no digicam.

This is new FS member jong71. Glad you found Hulk with Vincent along Kallang Way. Read about the re-match this sun betw. Hulk & Transformer. According to bro koppao Hulk is even bigger than Transformer but lost the last fight (saw video). Who knows how the re-match will go? Maybe Hulk will take back his title as number 1. bro koppao, I stand corrected. Closer exam. show only 1 L FS the other 2 slightly smaller. I find it difficult to judge betw. L, Medium-L, Medium. I hope can meet tomorrow but 9 am a bit early for me. Maybe can meet up with you guys later. Anyway if possible e-mail me.

bro krauser, your FS look huge on video! i like Gila vs Bigger Spar best, it is also the clearest!

bro viper88, MSIA have much more forested area than SG, should have many more Achilles & Bigheads! Look forward to your videos, man!(But maybe KL area and SG almost the same!)

This is new member jong71 reporting on Sun. 26/07 NTU FS meet.

Today was a real eye-opener for me! Thanks goes to ken25 & wife, kopPao, BTL, dreamchaser & Vincent.

Bro kopPao when you say L you really mean LARGE! Now I know my biggest FS only medium size. Bro krauser, you were right, size like that must be very, very rare!

The fight betw. Transformer and Hulk was tremendous!! There were also other fights that have been recorded. Watch out for the upcoming vids.

My medium size FS who took part were Mongrel (newly caught, bright green) who won against a bigger FS, I think it was Destroyer. My 1st king Ajax lost, I think, against Devastator. Have to check the vids to be sure.

Now I know what L means, I must try to catch one, but it won’t be easy……..

Have dowloaded all Sun 26/7 fights, including bros Trevally & krauser’s.
Thanks to bro BTL for getting NTU ones online so quickly. Glad to read that Destroyer has recovered.
Must say that having watched them several times that the most exciting were
Hulk vs Transformer and Cobra vs Jet Li. On video all FS look about the same size to me.
The fights are equally ferocious betw. FS of whatever size, if well matched.



I wonder if possible to have a general FS meet to establish a ranking for all current FS.
Each bro, if cannot attend in person can pass 1st & 2nd kings to another bro to fight for him.
Fights only betw. FS of same size class, unless owner of smaller FS agree fight larger one.
Then we know which are the best fighters in each size class???

Wah! Transformer vs Hulk fight always spectacular!!! It is like grudge match betw. 2 dominant fighters,
everytime they see each other they rush in to attack!

Bro Trevally, 1st issue I agree, have to be careful.
2nd issue, what abt fighting fish, sold all over SG? FS no different.

Still looking for L-Size FS…no luck. See s-size….if they escape kena makan, will grow to M-size, a few L-Size.
How long? 6-8 months? Bro mindstorm maybe you kno…..

Anyway I propose tournament as follows ( no need to take seriously, just talk…in forum can say almost anything…heh, heh.)

1)Need at least 8 players.

2)Only Medium and Medium-L FS compete, L-Size too few.

3)List FS participants on this forum.
Eg. Player 1: Jong
FS : 1st king - Ajax
2nd king – Mongrel
3rd king – Hammer
(Can also add photo).
Same for players 2 to 8 (or more).

4)Draw Schedule : Example 1st Round: Jong VS Peter, Pol VS Boh, Yow VS Doon, George VS Ryu.

5)Players arrange (via phone or email) to meet at their convenience to fight their FS.
Can just 2 meet (eg Jong and Peter; or can meet in a group during weekends).
Each pairing have up to 1 week to complete their match.

6)When players meet, fight 3 matches. Each player can use any of their 1st,2nd or 3rd kings in the 3 matches.
FS not listed earlier in forum can also be used (maybe caught day before match).
At least 2 out of 3 to be winner and go to next round.
Eg. Jong thinks his 2nd king can beat Peter’s 1st & 2nd kings,
so he save his 1st king for the next round. He use 2nd king for 2 matches, against Peter’s 1st & 2nd kings.
Maybe he wins both, then no need to fight 3rd match.
But he may be wrong and lose to Peter’s 1st king, but win against the 2nd king.
Now 1-1. For last match he can use 1st king or 3rd king (Jong’s 2nd king too tired); Peter can use 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

7)Matches may be videoed; or if no video, just report on this forum who wins.
Let’s say in example Peter wins because Jong makes tactical mistake – his 1st king actually lost to Peter’s 1st king in final match!

8)After week one, update to next round. Let’s say Peter, Pol, Yow and Ryu advance to 2nd round.
Now, Peter VS Pol, Yow VS Ryu.

9)Same procedure as in 1st round. Let’s say Pol and Yow win.

10) Now FINAL : Pol VS Yow. Whose FS will be the champion????

Met up with bro krauser for FS meet.
His Gila, during the past weekend, sparred with bro Trevally's team and clashed
in a fierce struggle with bro kopPao's Lalang, met Jong's Mongrel & Ajax around 5.00 pm.
Must say, Gila is one stamina FS.

First, a warm-up fight betw. Jetli and Mongrel. Mongrel won.

Now Gila's fights. First against Mongrel :

Mongrel pushed Gila to the edge of the fighting platform (leaf) and then under,
but Mongrel disengaged and Gila won.

Next against Ajax, who seemed to be looking at the camera. My hand was too close. Gila pounced on Ajax.....

Gila seems to be always fighting at or near the edge....

Both Gila and Ajax are now with bro krauser for a possible meeting with bro kopPao's Lalang, or even Sea......

bro kopPao, the camcorder i just bot is Samsung FlashCAM SMX-C10GP.
Cost me $369 (discount fr. $399 at Challenger). It has one-touch sharing to YouTube,
but no macro option in menu. i set the zoom to max out (opposite to telephoto) then bring the camcorder
as close to the FS until get clear image on LCD screen. i read this technique fr. a book on videoing insects.

bro koPao & bro Vincent, try to get photo/video of TFM and Hulk on 1 mm graph paper.
i just bot a stack, can pass on to yu. L-Size is so rare nowadays that it would be good to have a permanent record of their size.
On video FS all look big on closeup. I remember when i 1st saw TFM then Hulk, i was amazed!!!

bro ksiao, maybe this other guy can give Transformer a fite. Too bad that Hulk is retiring.

After meeting with bro trevally for matches & to hand him the green pow caught by ken25 (post #2076)
bro krauser drove down and met bro simone w. & me for FS contest.
bro krauser kindly passed Ajax back to me after the bouts with bro kopPao's
Lalang & Sea (post #2070). That confirmed Sea is the M/M-L champion.
So bro kopPao, you are the owner of the L-Size and M/M-L size categories champions - TFM & Sea!!!
Congratulations!
Anyway i've passed on the 1mm graph paper to bro krauser to pass on to yu & bro Vincent.

Today's fights :
1) The FS Polo which i spotted & bro krauser caught challenged bro simone w.'s Nokia, which had 2 fights yesterday
with his kaki's Blankie & Blackie (post # 2072). bro ksiao was recording the fight (i guess). Polo was fresh while it seemed Nokia had converted to chopster:

2) The re-match betw. Ajax & Gila
Gila vs Ajax 2
Ajax won.

3) Polo meeting Ajax for the 1st time
Polo bottom of screen, Ajax top.
Polo vs Ajax 1
The fight went under the leaf, but Polo won. On trying a rematch Ajax ran away.

4) Now a match betw. Gila & Polo.
The FS faced each other across a big gap. Polo left, Gila right. bro krauser had to
put the fighting platform down because he found it funny...
On the box, Gila pulled Polo down, the fight went under the leaf, then reappeared.....Polo ran, Gila won.

5) Gila seemed to be back in form so we pitted him against the suppow Kongax.

Gila won.

As Ajax could'nt fight anymore, this makes Gila the 2nd king in the M/M-L category.
Also in the fight with Sea, Gila fought 5 chops, Ajax only 1.
Why did Ajax win twice? I think 1st time Gila had too many fights, esp with Lalang, Ajax few.
The 2nd time, Gila not warmed up. When warmed up he beat Polo. Ajax lost to Polo.

Thanks to bro simone w. for handling the FS with bro krauser. This is the best setup for fights:
2 bros to control the FS and 1 bro to video.

bro krauser, suggest that Gila be conserved for important fights, say rematch with Sea.
