@Dyong,
The cards I received from Citibank aren't on a combined limit; they each have separate individual limits. I don't like the idea of keeping too many credit cards or having a super thick wallet hence the thought of cancelling the additional HSBC Visa card of mine. |

i read in time magazine several months ago.. that the credit card craze is sweeping into china. an interesting take was that, some of those youngsters actually believe that their asset just swell with their credit limit..
they felt that if the credit limit is 10k, then they're 10k richer.. i'm not sure how much of branding/marketing creates such relation. it's a scary thought. i still remember how i barked and negotiated downward my credit limit upon first sighting them. the person on the other end of the phone had to repeat back what he heard in case he misheard me.. credit card is an unsecure loan product and it offers the fattest margin on the retail side of banks today (correct me if i'm wrong).. freebies/zipp/incentives/rebates/etc have it's way of being equalized from other less noticeable transactions/fees.. if i were you, i'd aim for a lower cost structure to protect myself. although it might be less colorful in terms of features and offers, but at the end of the day, i'd prefer to keep my earn more than to part them off to the plastics.. |

QUOTE(David83 @ May 5 2008, 08:01 PM) Well .... I'd agree this a very dangerous marketing tactic. But it's both way, you need to identify that credit limit is not money that you already earned and marketers need to be more responsible when selling the cards. |

@hye,
I think we as individuals need to be responsible and mature before we start splurging on the plastics. As much as I agree with u on the negative effects, I must say the plastic has been quite useful in my life. I do have friends who refuses to use or obtain a credit card for fear of overspending and prefer to go cash. Whichever the way, find one that works best for u. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ May 5 2008, 01:37 PM) @siutimtim, i shd have learnt from you. Yes. Citibank does send pre-approved credit cards to u. Some are upgrades; which means the current card ur using will be deactivated when U start using that new card. Some are basically additional cards. As long as U do not activate the card and use it, the bank should not charge u anything. I've had my Citibank Clear Card upgraded to a Gold Card several times of which I refused to accept. Recently, they also sent me the pre-approved Citibank Shell card which I ignored; of which they called to check if I'd received the card and got a blasting from me *grins* Let's hope they no longer send me anymore cards! i got the pre-approved card, and yet the CS is too sweet, im lost to her. finally upgraded to gold card. now also hardly use the card, just use for the online utilitise payment |

So I feel DA Visa is useless (at least for me). Well ... if I were you I'll terminate the Debit Visas (can't earn points on them right) and use a credit card based VISA. Personally I won't keep 2 cards from the same bank (even if it's separate credit limit and for redundancy purposes better to have card from another bank) and I think DA allows termination of one of the card. At least that is what I was made to understand when I applied for it back then. |

Hmmm then I'll go CIMB bank and check with them if its possible to cancel DA Visa.Ya I feel its better to take cards from different banks. Thats why I want to cancel my DA Visa as I already have 2 Visas from other banks. Thanks. |
