QUOTE(zeilouz @ Feb 10 2013, 09:43 PM) i hope that i got this calculation correct, because i've been trying to figure out how much tax to be paid if i were to bring a car back to malaysia with a student AP. (i want to get a rough estimation of the total tax to be paid before sending an email to MITI for final confirmation). Best to check with kastam. If I recall correctly the tax is on their book value of the car, not your purchase price so it'll be 1.95 x ???Car to be bought- Nissan Skyline V6 3.5L 2007 (RM25k) Engine displacement/capacity- 3500, 3.5L (i'm assuming that i'll be paying 175% for this engine?) Age of car to be imported- 6 years (will be shipped on 2014, so assuming 30%) Sales and excise duty- 20% Appeal- (-30%) So total tax to be paid- 195% (1.95*25k = RM49k) is that a good rough estimation? or should i add any other justifications? i know that the road tax for this car is damn high. Road tax for the car should be around RM2700 per year, not that high. |

Yes, the have their own book value. they'll still tax you even though you got your car for free. Road tax for the car should be around RM2700 per year, not that high. |

Hello,
I am just wondering if anyone have experience shipping their car together with personal effect and household items to Malaysia? We are going to get a 40" container to load our car and household items but the shipping agent (a Malaysian) advised us to ship the car separately since he says the car will take a longer time to process for it to be released, thus they will also hold our personal effect/household items at the port. I just want to know the process when the container arrives at our port in Malaysia. Can't we just get our personal items out of the port first? |

QUOTE(LexBM @ Mar 13 2013, 07:49 AM) Hello, Speaking from personal experience yes, belongings together with car, as long as you have a complete list of items (declared) it contains, pay your car tax promptly, you can get everything fast. I am just wondering if anyone have experience shipping their car together with personal effect and household items to Malaysia? The forwarded (shipping agent, bringing your container from port to an unloading area) in Malaysia needs to bring to documents to Kastam promptly, get the tax quote, appeal from your part if needed/wanted, pay the car tax, everything in the container is yours, unload the container. You can get your car and everything.... you may need a temporary plate to drive your car to JPJ/Puspakom to register, (this is DYI on your part)... Proper SOPs are: The seal of the container can only be broken with your presence, everything regarding your car should be stated (model/engine no./chassis no.), by right, Kastam does not need to inspect your car, which will be done by Puspakom. But I suppose you need to arrange with your "Agent".... This post has been edited by BeastX: Mar 13 2013, 12:22 PM |

QUOTE(kanz1986 @ Aug 23 2012, 09:46 AM) hi mike_82 Hi Kanz1986, may i know is it really that the duration count started from the date of car being registered under my name until the date of shipment? i'll try to answer to your inquires based on my experience importing my car from the uk, hope other exp forumers could correct me if i'm wrong. for the tax quotation, yes, u can obtain an estimated tax quotation from the custom. just email them your car details. i believe the details which the custom would need has been covered in previous posts. second, u can't get it shipped before 9 months. it has to be in the UK for 9 months in order to be eligible to apply for the ap. the duration is being calculated from the date of your car being registered under your name in the v5 form (check the lower section of the v5 form) till the date of shipment. However, the good news is that you can op to store in the UK for 9 month by dealing with the shipping company (store the car in their yard) and have the car transported back once it is due. many has and is using this method, I've spoken and clarified with the staff of my shipment company in the UK and seen the number of malaysian cars being stored in their yard. lastly, I honestly doubt your rx7 would have value in Malaysia (based on age wise, maintainance wise and market) try google for rx7 value in motor trader or prolly mudah. even if it does have value, only certain individuals might be interested, the rest would most prolly give you nonsense offer. Currently i am in Australia, planning to ship my Lancer 1999 after my visa expired on coming September (working holiday visa). Well, i am still waiting for MITI reply whether am i entitle for the AP due to my type of visa just only valid for a year. I purchased the car and the insurance for the car on last year December. Anyway, due to some stupid reason did not straight away proceed to transfer ownership under my name and i only did it on March, hence the car won't be fulfill the 9 months period requirement when the time my visa expired on September. Wonder can i leave my car in Australia, then come back and ship it back on next year to fulfill the 9 months requirement? |

Yes, the duration count starts from the registration date of the car under your name. However i know a person who mistaken the count start from the date of purchase (less than 9 months) and he was able to register his car in Malaysia. But i'm not sure what extra conditions are being imposed on his car.
For a 1 year visa, you are entitle for the AP. no worries. My visa was a 1 year study visa. Since you require 2 months more, why not deal with your shipping company to ship the car after 2 months? Quite a number of Malaysians are doing that in the UK. park their car at the forwarder warehouse until it reaches maturity and ship them out. |

Yeah, I actually intend to do as what you had suggested, but the thing concerning me is I afraid the charge for leaving car in their warehouse is very high, if that the case it would not worth it due to my car is actually low in value even if it in Malaysia, Lancer coupe 1999.....headache, hahaFor a 1 year visa, you are entitle for the AP. no worries. i see. might be better if for u to calculate & assess the cost of going back or leave at the warehouse. see which one cheaper. Do consider your maintenance also, the car will not be moving for around 2-3 months, might cause some problem.

Actually what if instead of leaving the car in warehouse, how about I leave the car to my friend when i am going back, then come back to Australia to proceed the shipment after 2-3 months time? That might be able to save some dollars |

Here what I gathered so far in terms of getting a car from the UK to Malaysia.
I am in my third year, which I have roughly 1.5 year to go in going back to Malaysia. I suppose this would be somewhen a good time in getting a car, if it make sense. These are the planned steps from what I gathered so far (I am on no.3 right now) (1) Get Provisional License (2) Register for Theory Test (3) Go for Driving Lessons (4) Register & Go for the Driving Test (5) Find a car (6) The money to sustain the darn thing (7) Bringing it back --- (1) Get Provisional License This is necessary as I stayed longer than a year here, my Malaysian Driving license is no good and I will have to start taking a UK license test. The cost is at £50 for the provisional license, just register it over at DVLA website with your particulars, pay online, submit via mail of the passport to DVLA at Swansea after receiving a mail from them. Timeline: around 1 to 1 1/2 months Receive a mail around 2 weeks after registering & paid online. Post passport & form to DVLA via Royal Mail first class with Return envelope. Receive the passport and provisional license separately in the mail around two weeks later. Costs: £50 (Provisional license) + £13-ish (Royal Mail first class with Return envelope) (2) After receiving provisional license, then register to take the theory test, also through the DVLA website, which will allocate to your nearest test centre. Required test: Theory objective questions (score at least 43 / 50) Hazard Perception test (score at least 44 / 70) Note: Must pass both to move forward to register for the driving test. Test costs: £31 + whatever it costs to get there via public transport. They allocated me the earliest in three weeks time, no earlier booking possible. This is where I am at right now in these steps mentioned. Test time 2 hours for both, most likely I’ll get in done within an hour. If fail either one or both, it is compulsory to retake it again, and pay full amount. I am not sure what will the waiting gap will be for this. (3) Driving lessons. Depending on the school / instructor, it’ll cost somewhat £23/hour average. I am taking a few sessions for me to iron out my bad habits and also their driving culture in order for me to pass their test. This is something I’ll do in between waiting for the theory test and training for the practical. (4) Driving test (only register after passing the theory) Register for the exam = £62 per exam Timeline= I suppose it will be similar, 3 weeks You could use your driving school’s car, which you’ll pay to rent it. or you could rent from the test centre, which I think it is at £115 for weekday, £141 for weekend exam. or you could use your own car, which must be insured, fully serviced (no warning lights on the dashboard lighting up), L-plate installed, well, it should be proper. If fail, also have to retake and pay the full price again to re-take! (the test fee, the car rental...urgh!) If pass, re-submit the documents, the provisional license for update to full, pink coloured UK driving license. I suppose this will be another 2 weeks of wait I am not sure how much this will costs (for the transition of provisional to full-driving license) --- So, by the time the license is at hand, it’ll take roughly at least 3-4 months, alongside with expenses at least £250 and above, that is hopefully, one doesn’t fail too often for either one of these tests. This is half the battle..... I'll update later on the rest. |

I wanna import a toyota supra twin turbo back from Japan. What type of AP do I need? I asked a few import car dealers they said even if you import the car in malaysia, you can register for road use because its too old. But my brother's e class he import by buying a student ap from a student who was studying in UK. And the car was already 7 years old when he import into malaysia. Went through puspakom and registered no problem
