hi mike_82

i'll try to answer to your inquires based on my experience importing my car from the uk, hope other exp forumers could correct me if i'm wrong.

for the tax quotation, yes, u can obtain an estimated tax quotation from the custom. just email them your car details. i believe the details which the custom would need has been covered in previous posts.

second, u can't get it shipped before 9 months. it has to be in the UK for 9 months in order to be eligible to apply for the ap. the duration is being calculated from the date of your car being registered under your name in the v5 form (check the lower section of the v5 form) till the date of shipment.

However, the good news is that you can op to store in the UK for 9 month by dealing with the shipping company (store the car in their yard) and have the car transported back once it is due. many has and is using this method, I've spoken and clarified with the staff of my shipment company in the UK and seen the number of malaysian cars being stored in their yard.

lastly, I honestly doubt your rx7 would have value in Malaysia (based on age wise, maintainance wise and market) try google for rx7 value in motor trader or prolly mudah. even if it does have value, only certain individuals might be interested, the rest would most prolly give you nonsense offer.

Hi Kanz1986, may i know is it really that the duration count started from the date of car being registered under my name until the date of shipment?

Currently i am in Australia, planning to ship my Lancer 1999 after my visa expired on coming September (working holiday visa). Well, i am still waiting for MITI reply whether am i entitle for the AP due to my type of visa just only valid for a year. I purchased the car and the insurance for the car on last year December. Anyway, due to some stupid reason did not straight away proceed to transfer ownership under my name and i only did it on March, hence the car won't be fulfill the 9 months period requirement when the time my visa expired on September. Wonder can i leave my car in Australia, then come back and ship it back on next year to fulfill the 9 months requirement?

Yes, the duration count starts from the registration date of the car under your name. However i know a person who mistaken the count start from the date of purchase (less than 9 months) and he was able to register his car in Malaysia. But i'm not sure what extra conditions are being imposed on his car.

For a 1 year visa, you are entitle for the AP. no worries. My visa was a 1 year study visa.

Since you require 2 months more, why not deal with your shipping company to ship the car after 2 months? Quite a number of Malaysians are doing that in the UK. park their car at the forwarder warehouse until it reaches maturity and ship them out.

Yeah, I actually intend to do as what you had suggested, but the thing concerning me is I afraid the charge for leaving car in their warehouse is very high, if that the case it would not worth it due to my car is actually low in value even if it in Malaysia, Lancer coupe 1999.....headache, haha

i see. might be better if for u to calculate & assess the cost of going back or leave at the warehouse. see which one cheaper. Do consider your maintenance also, the car will not be moving for around 2-3 months, might cause some problem.

Actually what if instead of leaving the car in warehouse, how about I leave the car to my friend when i am going back, then come back to Australia to proceed the shipment after 2-3 months time? That might be able to save some dollars
