Looks boring but the spec is good with great pricing. Bbb!

Bear in mind , air doesnt come with dual stereo speaker , only 1 speaker.

Really? I didn’t read the whole spec sheet yet. You mean actual physical focus length switching (like in a periscope zoom) or just digital cropping?

QUOTE(westlife)
battery life to be fair only 3 hours lesser than iphone 17 = i find it acceptable, given how thin it is.

I’m buying for my mum, who only changes phones every 3-4 yrs. long term battery degradation is also a concern. Such a shame they killed the Plus. Looks like I’ll need to spend big and get her a Pro Max this year.
*
why not get the 16 plus at discounted price? Stil a super good phone with super battery life.

QUOTE(oldlady94 @ Sep 10 2025, 10:38 AM)
is it worth it to upgrade from 15 pro max to 17 air?
*
Unless your main concern was the size and weight , other than it was look like a downgrade for me doh.gif , are u sure u going for this move? I rather u change to the iphone 17 than the AIR. If u coming from 15 Pro Max.

I did consider it, but even if my mum cannot see the difference, gifting someone a screen refresh rate from the jurassic period just feels wrong to me. blush.gif

If your mum previously using 60hz phone , i dont think she will feel the different , and for old people , the refresh rate might not be the main feature for them , what they want is BIG screen plus GOOD battery and possible a little light weight.

For me , Pro Max will be overkill for parent , unless your parent was very high tech person nod.gif But if u can afford it , why not right biggrin.gif

iPhone 17 Air is actually 2mm thinner than the iPhone SE 2022! I thought that phone is already very thin.

Air seems freaking slim and elegant. But Apple might to dumb down its A19 processor in order for it to last longer…

I didn’t realize it was the A19 Pro chip in the Air and not the regular A19 one till I watched the keynote just now, haha… Well, they claim it to be more efficient so the battery may last longer - but I agree with most of predictions that the battery life won’t be as good - you can’t escape the law of physics, haha laugh.gif

Name A19 Pro but less 1 GPU core than the A19 pro in the pro/max 🤦

I think the need for extra one charge in the middle of day is fair enough.

She won’t notice because never experience 120hz before. But bigger screen she will notice. 16 plus is a better buy.

yes, with A19 pro chip (even 1 GPU lesser than 17 Pro series) + potentially 12GB RAM, it makes the Air attractive to get over 17 actually.

This year 17 no doubt is the MVP in terms of best CP value. However, i think many ppl especiall asians are too used to bigger display (plus or pro max size of display). So it may not be surprised that ppl will still go to buy Air/Pro Max (more likely) since Pro Max to be fair price is same as last year too which last year many have also spent the money to go for Pro Max. tongue.gif

seriously i think in real life, the 1 GPU less may not cause problem to day to day usage.
unless video editing kind of tasks which i think quite rare for ppl to do on a phone.
for gaming wise, even previous years, hardly have youtubers commented that the weaker SoC on iphone series that are weaker than Pro Series significantly.

maybe more should worry about the heat dispersion of Air vs Pro this year since Pro is redesigned with the body and use of aluminium to help to sustain the SoC power over heavy usage. tongue.gif

You mean throttle down the speeds of the processor for lower battery consumption.

For me, any phone that requires a mid day charge or a power bank is a fail in my books, hahaha…

Also, I can’t brain why they would put the A19 Pro in the Air but give it only USB 2.0 speed as opposed to USB 3.0 on the Pro Max? That is strange… Anyways, many reviewers online concluded yesterday that the Air is like a first gen experimental product for Apple - just like the MacBook Air when Steve Jobs pulled it out of an envelope all those years ago - and today, MacBook Air is the best selling laptop in the world. So I guess we need to give the Air some time to see if it sticks.

I dont mean it will die on the mid day , like u fully charge at the morning , replying email , social media some photo/video , and it might left around 40-50% in the 2-3pm , so to be more secure , might need topup alittle bit back to 80-90% for maybe night dinner or meeting til home , for such slim and light weight phone , i think topup in the middle of day is fair enough.

About the USB 2.0 , i think apple really focus more on cloud service or wirelessly rather than cable. Me myself also rarely use cable expect for charging only biggrin.gif If want to transfer anything to windows laptop , just using LocalSend and it can cross-over all platform.

But cannot replace the backup via iTunes rite? If usb 2.0 the transfer will still be slow. Although I never have the experience with backup via iTunes using iPhone 15 pro and above yet.

yes the only downside was backup via iTunes might be slow for usb 2.0 , but i think just use wireless backup will do laugh.gif

At least among my friend and family , dont surprise that non-of them actually knowing iTunes biggrin.gif , only old user might know iTunes because we need using it to update our device in old day biggrin.gif and now , everything to cloud and wireless.

Found back 2012 picture , using itunes to update the iOS biggrin.gif , updating iOS in old day was damn scary , will sudden pop-up error sweat.gif

Haha, yeah bro, I get your point. It’s a fair trade off if you want something that’s so slim, I guess. As for the USB C speed, I’m just nitpicking on them coz the fact they put the A19 Pro in it and charging RM5k for it, I would think the least they could do is also give it USB 3.0 for the aesthetics if not for anything else, haha…

OMG, do people still backup via iTunes with a wired cable in 2025?
