Looks like iPhone 17 going to be using the A18 chip, thus making it super unattractive -- may as well go for iPhone 16 Pro.

Got Air ma, but lose the ultra wide and macro. Then you gotta ask how often you use it. But less battery life also.

Feels like a downgrade. Smaller screen, no ultra wide and tele, sure not an upgrade if you ask me.

Yes, icloud, after 5 years.. you paid the synology off already... unless your home no broadband then can't la... ok there's a tradeoff.. Synology apps very clunky.. versus icloud which is seamless..that's the trade off lo.. but i don't browse remotely that often, just back it up.

You are really paying for the form factor.. only 1 camera that's like abang 16e, then they throw in a Pro chipset to compensate the asking price.

TBH I think vanilla 17 is the winner again this generation.. a major leap. Cause most people don't use telephoto camera that much. Just 1x for normal photos, 0.5x to take in more or stretch the legs...

Well, they needed more differentiating factor. But finally in 2025, the vanilla got 120hz screen. Android been laughing at iPhone fans for the longest time.

And it seems battery is better as well. I can live without the telephoto lens. iPhone 17 feels like a “Pro-lite” phone than a base phone. With 256GB at the same starting price as 16, pretty good deal. I’m not blown away by the Pro’s camera, and all the Prolog feature not relevant to me.

The Air, you’re really paying for form over function. But I think I need to go handle one and see how it feels in hand. But based on battery life and benchmarks… even with the Pro chip it perform worse than the base 17… the Air is really the “base” phone if you forget about its form factor.

Lucky the base 17 colors not attractive to me. Only 1 dark color choice since 14…. I really loved the Alpine Green on the 13 Pro. I feel 16 colors are better than 17. Ultramarine and Teal both nicer than Mist Blue and Sage..but that’s just me. But I’ll end up with the black… I really want the white for a change but haiya it’ll show up when taking photos of reflective surfaces.. i guess put it in a case.

Did more research between iPhone 17 vs 16 Pro... frankly the A19 really whack the A18 Pro kaw kaw, even with 1 less GPU core. And since both also 8GB the 16 Pro don't really have any upside.

Which comes down to all the Pro features like faster USB-C, ProRaw, Prores Log (3 features for people do shooting), the telephoto lens with 8x optical, LiDAR and better fusion cameras with bigger sensors.

17 you get better selfie camera, better battery life, better performance.. Ini 17 really... one of the best base iPhones ever.. ok la.. i shall wait for sales later and see butt itchy or not.

Initially I didn’t like the colors. But watching more videos Sage seems to grow on me.

The Promotion gave many people reason to upgrade so demand is still hot.

I like the Air, holding it, and if I have it, won’t put a case on ln it, just a skin and tempered glass. But alas that battery life and lack of performance steer me away.

Air can’t even beat 17 base model… battery life and performance also lose… despite the Pro chip and 12GB RAM.

I am so tempted by 17.. but I’ve got no faults with my base 15.. really no reason to change. And the 17 beats the 16 Pro except the camera… I like the titanium body..

Air is nice in the hand but if it’s gonna be in a case then no point. If only it wasn’t so compromised I’d consider it. Got a feeling there may not be an Air 2 given the sales lagging.

I used various sizes, from 11 then down to 13 mini and back up to 15. Loved the 13 mini but the battery was too compromised.

I test drove 16 pro max twice… natural and black. Was simply too heavy, not nice to hold 1 hand even with MagSafe ring. I really dig the natural finish. The screen didn’t matter at all to me since I use it mainly to read and watch YouTube which is 60fps max anyway. Screen size is big, but I went back to 15 no issue. Wasn’t life changing. Oh and it was heavy as fk. I was fond of the 16 pro, lucky didn’t buy else I’ll be wtf 17 better. (I don’t need telephoto lens).

It really is personal preference but calling vanilla 17 small is.. I dunno. Phones just keep getting bigger.

I guess I am an outlier. lol. Form factor matters more. And no iPhone is “slow” since Apple’s A chips are always top of the game.

Actually… the biggest killer for the phone is charging overnight while you sleep.

Batteries don’t like to stay at high % state of charge. So if you keep it “plugged in” the battery will die very fast. E.g. overnight for 7 hours at 80% plugged in.

That author didn’t say his charging routine so it’s useless reference. I keep battery limit to 80% if I am in my usual routine e.g. work day. Since I can charge at work and in my car. But when I travel or going out on weekends I’ll charge it to 100%. I don’t see the need to kill my battery for no good reason. Same with my NMC EV, I daily charge to 50% since I have a 22kW charger at home. But if going outstation I’ll charge to 100% and reach my destination without stopping to charge.

I believe Apple will do something for 2027… since it’s 20th anniversary.. so the dilemma for me is to upgrade to 17 range now.. and get the 2027 release
