@Reventon,
It's weird because when I indicated I'll cancel my card, Amex said, oK.. they'll allow me to cancel my card. They didn't offer to waive my RM800 so I went ahead to make that payment (that was last year when I initially got the card)

I sure hope they be able to waive it for me this year though - but like U said, better find a way out first biggrin.gif

Funny! Today I received an Amex charge card via Poslaju although I did not submit an application for it! MBB cc agent did approach me for Amex few months ago but I rejected the offer. How could the bank send the pre-approved card to me directly?

Anyway, I'll definitely cancel this card as I don't need too many cards. Moreover, Amex is not widely accepted in M'sia, and the 8x points promotion is finishing soon right?

I'd probably charge RM50 on petrol and thus I'll be entitled for a free laptop bag. After receiving the bag I'll cancel the card immediately.

For those who have already received thd laptop bag, how soon did you get your bag after receiving your 1st month statement? Did they charge courier fee?

i got it 3 weeks after settle the payment
no courier fee charges icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually I think what princess did was to cancel the card and they waived off the annual fee as it was not fair to charge since only had the card for around 3 months or so ie. card a/c closed unlike when you choose to continue the a/c. So if you had cancel when you first received the annual fee, they would also have waived it off as well but then you won't be having further use of the card tongue.gif

@tgeoklin,
I did contact the CS when I saw the RM800 AF charged to my bill about 2 months after I got the card; but they didn't want to waive it off for me. I told them I'd applied for the Gold card but they'd sent me the Platinum instead and if the RM800 cannot be waived then I don't want the card. Their respond to me (and I even have it in writing) is that they will cancel the existing Platinum card. No waiver was ever given to me!! *hmph*

@winner,
I believe there's a clause which states that you'll have to keep the card for at least 6 months before you can actually qualify for the gift; U better check that out biggrin.gif

Must be they saw your big fat account balance and knew they got you good tongue.gif

Anyway, based on your case its exactly like Princess, they will not waive, can only cancel. So if you had cancelled, then you also need not pay the annual fee as that's what I think Princess was trying to say. hmm.gif

Oh thanks...you have clarified with the CS? I may only swipe RM50 at Shell, and wait and see how soon they'll send me the laptop bag. smile.gif

@winner,
No I haven't but usually there's such a clause. It's best if you checked with the CS. Then again, for something as small as a laptop bag, I don't think Amex will send someone to get the gift back from U, right? biggrin.gif

I've got a registered mail from AMEX this morning and followed by a call from them hours later.

It's a letter from Amex that i need to produce to any Machines outlet.
