Actually Amex is very widely accepted in Malaysia but their fees are 1% higher than Visa/MC so most Malaysian merchants being cheapskates/profit conscious prefer Visa/MC.

Diners is useless although I have to admit some of their offers are pretty interesting.

Long live Diners rclxm9.gif

Longest card I ever had, works great in Japan and unmatchable when you flash it

Still waiting for their carte blanche version to hit these shores tongue.gif

may i know what difference between Maybank Amex and Amex Charge Card ?

I thought the basic MBB amex is also charge card right ?

So the turbo point and etc all talking about here is on the charge card right ?

I found other than charge card, amex credit card is at least gold n above and super high requirement
*
Since you asked so nicely, the answer to your questions are as follows :-

MBB Amex ie. those which carries the MBB Logo are Credit Card while Amex personal cards are normally charge card with the exception of their recently launched Platinum Credit Card, go figures rclxub.gif

Yes, turbo points are for the charge cards

Actually same requirement, just different positioning ie. marketing strategy tongue.gif as a matter of fact, the benefits for a Visa/Master are normally better than the regular Amex cards

Well, when i got my platinum Amex CC, it was a pleasant surprise that they gave me a free Prestige (Shangrila Membership) card. It is worth RM500 that comes with vouchers,etc.

I do not really know how i qualify for it but im pretty happy w the benefits i get out of it. The 2x points and the platinum rewards (10x points) is great as well. Or it so happen to be at places i shop and eat la. laugh.gif

Visa and Master is more widely used but ill always try to use my amex first. smile.gif

Its Diners for me all the way tongue.gif

Of course, swiping with AMEX offers double TP compared to Visa.

Just make sure you never ever use Amex on overseas transactions. Their rates are all time high plus an additional 2.5% commission on top of that. tongue.gif

Should use Diners, so far never got rejected before tongue.gif unless not accepted in the first place. Further, it has the longest credit period of up to 55 days brows.gif

@Optiplex330,
Am surprised to hear/know that US Dell doesn't accept Amex.  I recently made several purchases with Dell Malaysia and they did accept my payment via Amex.

The only good thing about Amex here in MY is that it's the best card that gives us back the most in terms of points smile.gif  Other than that, no other 'tangible' benefit I know of tongue.gif
*
Concur, all benefits far below that of corresponding Visa/Master offerings. As a charge card, even their credit period also shorter than Diners. Guess its only MBB's 2X rewards & unfair advantage that's keeping Amex alive in M'sia tongue.gif

As to their so called prestigious Plat Card & above, its mostly marketing hype, especially now that MBB has taken them over, CS also went downhill all the way. So, you do not need it, if you are not a frequent traveller with high & unexpected expenditures which may at times surpass your CL

@my44,
Damn... I also want to join the program but is it possible to backdate it?! *grins*  Then again, do U know if it's applicable for the Credit Card range?

I feel a bit 'disappointed' with the kind of privileges I'm getting with my Amex Credit Card.  I think I'll just swap to a Charge Card.
*
Actually all Gold card member & above are automatically enrolled FOC last 2 months due to some promotion or something. Further the 2X reward is now a permanent feature ie. 2X membership reward for life tongue.gif

Btw, you managed to waived off the interest charges? Cheers

LOL, of course no backdate. You just need to decide early on whether turbo 3x is worth the RM50 fee. As for credit card vs charge card, I think as long as got AMEX logo brand, you are eligible .. but the best is to call them directly (finding info on MB2u is like searching for a needle in haystack)
tgeoklin, turbo reward means 3x MR points. 2x points is not turbo yet tongue.gif

What do you mean by interest charge? There's no interest with AMEX charge cards, only late penalty RM50 or more ..
*
I think they must have changed it to maintain standardisation with all maybank product. Do call them up to confirm as I was told, its now only double due to actual point already 2X and this is also reflected in the amex site http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/p...41,18034,00.asp as well

tinkerbell's is the Amex Plat CC, so got interest charges biggrin.gif

@tgeoklin,
I haven't heard from Amex and been bZ so I'll wait for my next bill to come and then argue with them cause they didn't call me to verify.  Having said that, I obviously cleared all outstanding amount (minus the Finance Charges) which I told the CS on the phone I will not clear until someone from Amex contacts me about it smile.gif

I'm not sure about the Turbo Program - damn.. I thought it wasn't applicable for the Credit Card range.. am not spending much on my Amex these days anyways - hosterity drive sad.gif
*
To clarify, nope its only applicable to Amex Gold Charge cards and above. The Credit Cards are rewarded via Maybank Treatpoints. Sorry for the confusion. Good luck & enjoy yr austerity drive tongue.gif

Has anyone won the 8gb IPOD Nano from American Express being the 1st 100 to spend RM3000 in a month?
*
Very hard to win as lots of in-league merchants charged their own card at 12.00.01 am on the 1st of the month and guess when you get to use your card? Petrol also cannot pump RM3K so fast, right? Maybe in a nightspot or so tongue.gif

@tgeoklin,
I checked with Amex on the promo but apparently it's based on posting date.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I'll be one of them for month of December smile.gif
*
Yeap, that's true but must be within the month ie. last month transaction posted this month does not count, thus I was so told by their CS. Or maybe my luck not good, tried the Std Chart contest 3 months already also never win anything as well sad.gif though been spending like hell. Hopefully can get the travel bags set hmm.gif

@tgeoklin,
Serious?! Well they didn't tell me that but that certainly doesn't make sense.  Well at least I know I made a RM3k swipe on the 1st of the month and there was also a posting made for a transaction I did about 2 days before which exceeded RM3k so I guess I'm still being hopeful an iPod will be delivered to me soon smile.gif
*
Yeap, very serious, did in RM12K on my Amex & over RM15K on my SCB, so its truly kind of a let down when not winning anything mad.gif But like they say, there's still hope and previously I did win lots of goodies from Amex tongue.gif

But for the Visa/Mst category very hard to top those insurance agents who swipe for their clients, which is why I still think the MBf get '5' was still the fairest, at least for all cardmembers nod.gif
