Can you purchase any more iPhone now with the recent restriction imposed, now that's the question. Apple refuses cash or gift cards, only credit cards for a reason. When i bought mine using credit card in Florida, they asked to see personal identification document to identify the card im using matches me. Showed them my passport and it went from there on. Now with these restrictions, once they see that the credit card is no longer US-based, they will refuse the sale.
I've a colleague going to LA end of this month, also planning to buy the iPhone for himself (after a lengthy poisoning session yesterday |

if i am going to buy an iphone it does not mean that i have to register with at&t in order to buy the phone right? i can just buy the phone seperately?
wow , need us visa /credit card only allowed to buy? hm, haha thats going to be quite hard. i'll ask my aunt to help me.. do they still restrict to 2 iphones for 1 person sale? This post has been edited by lordsharingan: Nov 3 2007, 03:17 PM |

I can't really verify exactly but even with US based ID and credit card, they gave my friend a hard time when trying to buy two iPhones, and they refused to sell me since I already have two iPhones to my name. Customer rep at the Apple Store said it's two iPhones for life per customer. In a few weeks, I'd guess that the supply of iPhones in Malaysia will slow down significantly due to these restrictions, so the prices will most likely go up. |

Which is the reason why i said before that getting the iPhone early has its advantages. Now, our iPhones are considered rare? Or you have to wait for the European iPhones, and hope Apple left them hackable as their American counterpart.

Custom ringtones for 1.11 f/w
got this from modmyifone.com tried it and it works like a charm.. no more itunes deleting ur ringtones -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the iPhone-Elite members posted a method for patching the MeCCA framework binary to allow for custom ringtones. Source: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/Ringtones111 I followed the instructions and am just releasing a pre-patched MeCCA file for easier use. All credit goes to the iphone-elite team! I patched it using XVI32 (a hex editor) Instructions ------------------- 1. Backup MeCCA file located at /System/Library/Frameworks/MeCCA.framework/ (I renamed mine to MeCCA.bak) 2. SCP the included MeCCA file to this location 3. Set permissions to 755 (I used WinSCP to do this) 4. Reboot iPhone 5. Copy your m4a ringtone to /Library/Ringtones 6. Change the extension of your m4a file from "name.m4a" to "name .m4r" NOTE: THE SPACE BEFORE THE DOT IS IMPORTANT, IT'S WHAT THE PATCH LOOKS FOR 7. Go to Settings->Sounds and select your ringtone. Download link -------------------- http://rapidshare.com/files/65716567/mecca.zip Added on November 4, 2007, 6:26 pmuse itunes to convert ur mp3 tones to m4a. just select ur file in itunes then right click and select convert to aac Added on November 4, 2007, 6:29 pm QUOTE(six66 @ Nov 4 2007, 06:07 PM) im using macally mcase.. there's one prob.... it gets loose in no time and u risk slipping ur iphone from the case. my solution... slip some folded papers behind the phone when u insert it in the case so it fits better This post has been edited by pspfan: Nov 4 2007, 06:29 PM |

QUOTE(stephentang @ Nov 4 2007, 01:28 AM) Try iTunes Art Importer. You can use search function (they check Amazon.com so Malay/Chinese album cover may not work) and use the import function to put the artwork into iTunes. Do it before you sync with your iPhone. |

QUOTE(prazole @ Nov 4 2007, 04:32 PM) i m using BSE I went to the new apple store -- epicenter in pavilion and asked them if I should get a screen protector for my iphone; the guy i talked to said no, because the phone is made out of sapphire glass and it doesn't scratch easily. Wouldn't putting a protector on the screen limit the touch sensitivity? i bought online and it came around 6th/7th day.. but my advice is even with invisible shield or BSE, use other high quality screen protector in the front screen.. those BSE and InviShield has some kinda odd texture in it.. putting at the back is ok.. but i can imagine putting it a front would be ugly to look at.. im using martin field screen for the front.. its exp but super clear.. Oh, hate the new recessed output. I have to order a new cable b/c no store (i've checked several, including something like 5 apple stores in the KL area) so I can output the sound to my stereo/PA system. |

QUOTE(OmniAtlas @ Nov 4 2007, 11:03 PM) I went to the new apple store -- epicenter in pavilion and asked them if I should get a screen protector for my iphone; the guy i talked to said no, because the phone is made out of sapphire glass and it doesn't scratch easily. Wouldn't putting a protector on the screen limit the touch sensitivity? its true that those glass are super scratch proof..Oh, hate the new recessed output. I have to order a new cable b/c no store (i've checked several, including something like 5 apple stores in the KL area) so I can output the sound to my stereo/PA system. youtube has some scary iphone torture videos.. hey omni so where are u ordering the cables from.. i want too.. QUOTE(Bedok @ Nov 5 2007, 01:10 AM) Try iTunes Art Importer. You can use search function (they check Amazon.com so Malay/Chinese album cover may not work) and use the import function to put the artwork into iTunes. Do it before you sync with your iPhone. Won't work, mate. Only compatible with iTunes 4.5 or 4.6. I doubt anyone's PC is still running a versiom THAT OLD |

Hey all...
Just want to ask. I don't know if it's answered. But is *128# working for DiGi? If it's not, does anybody know a way to make it work? And for the SMS from the carrier, there is no way around it? Basically whenever DiGi sends me an SMS the words will be jumbled up like that always? |

hi guys, i managed to upgrade to fw1.1.1 and successfully unlocked the phone using http://jailbreakme.com and anysim v1.1....
Is it safe to do a fw1.1.1 restore using iTunes and the phone would stay unlocked? i assume it needs to be jailbroken again, but will the restore mess up the baseband and brick the phone? thx. |

greetings friends.
i'm really excited looking at so many iphone users in here. am planning to get one, so i would appreciate some encouraging feedbacks. i'm in the early stages of adopting GTD, so a versatile to do list and appointment manager is a must for me. e-mails and web browsing comes second. besides, i'll be outside any usable wifi network most of the time. i've had some experiences with palm OS & windows mobile and i use iliumsoft listpro on both of them. loved it! i'm absolutely sure there's no listpro for iPhone, so what alternatives do i have? another question would be, do i need to be connected to the net to use ALL the 3rd party apps for iPhone? thanks for reading and thanks for considering an answer. cheers! |

iPhone's speaker is crap anyway though it might look visually disturbing.
Anyway, my iPhone still functions perfectly fine. I did visited a few Apple Specialist store and they mentioned that it is not in Apple's policy to do repairs. They just do replacements, and since there's no warranty for me they won't even repair it even if I had the money. Well that is if I had enough they would ask me to buy another one. The sleek design of iPhone does make it slippery somewhat, just be careful with it, especially those with shallow pockets |

hi all,
some sharing here. fw1.1.1 can be unlock using this steps. http://iphone.unlock.no/ It's working. for those who already downgrade to fw 1.0.2, you may restore back your factory setting through itunes. then try the step above to unlock everything. can anyone share out where can we buy iphone accessory? & wat is the price? looking for screen protector & nice casing (eg: silicone or hard casing). thanks |

The 3.5 inch screen just make the e-Book thingy a whole lot cooler. But how do I add additional books in? I can only add it by downloading additional ones using Installer

Hey can someone recommend a case for the iphone -- i need something that can slip on that flips open, yet also allows me to charge the phone without taking it out of the case.
I was going to get the case-mate flip but i have heard that the interior leather scratches (!!) the phone...still looking around. |

itunes 7.5 is up for upgrade guys!!
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/05/new-itu...nd-voice-memos/ If you hadn't heard, iTunes 7.5 hit today, and while we were all busy yawning at the seemingly insignificant update, MacRumors Forums user "FreeState" was checking out some localized strings and tracked down a few gems. Number 4320.069 asks if you're "sure you want to manually manage your music on your iPhone?" Yeah, we're sure. While 4320.073 teases that "Enabling the iPhone for disk use requires manually ejecting the iPhone before each disconnect, even when automatically syncing music." We can live with those demands. Mr. 4320.075 is a bit more generic, but 4320.082 is the sexiest of the bunch: "The iPhone "^1" contains new voice memos. Would you like to move these voice memos to your iTunes library?" We've been waiting for months for the iPhone to add that no-brainer feature, so here's hoping that the next iPhone update will be swift and promise-fulfilling. wooot new update will feature new iphone functions!!! o yeah.. ppl gave feedback that new itunes doesnt do anything to your hacked iphone/ipod touch |

Nah, looking for a more minimal design, with a flip top. I don't really need a clip as i'll be putting the phone in my shirt pocket. Thanks though.

Anyone know a one click (in the browser) program for the mac that downloads a video from youtube and automatically places it in itunes? I have TubeTV but that requires that I launch the program; i would like to do it within the browser and automate the process.
I found Tubesock, but that requires $15 for registration. |

QUOTE(antnine @ Nov 7 2007, 09:13 PM) serious or not?? die la...i just sync with 7.5 Added on November 8, 2007, 9:31 amNov. 7/07 - I found a way to just copy MobileDevice directly into iNdependence so that, regardless of what version of iTunes you have installed, it will work properly (assuming you copy the version of MobileDevice from iTunes 7.4.x). I've put this into SVN (along with instructions in README.src), but it requires install_name_tool -- which is only installed with XCode. So I'm looking at a way to make a more general purpose solution that everyone can use. Stay tuned... Nov. 5/07 - Was enjoying the lull before the inevitable storm... as usual, don't upgrade to iTunes 7.5. Looks like Apple removed the private functions needed for jailbreak from the MobileDevice framework. Time to find another way in. there is no 4gb available now. once a while there will be refurbished one on apple online store, with the same price as new.

Tomorrow's the day. DO NOT update your iPhone to 1.1.2, or otherwise, it mutates into an iBrick. You have been warned.
Im again taking a wait-and-see before going the update path again. The iTunes 7.5 have interesting features waiting for the updated 1.1.2, including Disk mode. But until the unlocks are made stable and working, i'll let others be the guinea pig. |

I can live without disk mode, a 2GB USB stick is cheaper and easier to carry than the iPhone USB cable. However the rumors of voice recording is very tempting. I wonder what else is in 1.1.2 and how the dev/elite team plan to jailbreak and unlock the phone now that the Safari bug is fixed... |

Voice recording is already available , albeit via Installer. Not in my hot list of most-wanted features though. I carry my cable everywhere i go, which makes Disk Mode an interesting proposition. Charging the iPhone everywhere i go with it now, since i carry my Macbook with me everywhere i go as well.

I used to carry my Macbook and previously my iBook with me everywhere too, but with the iPhone I find that I can do pretty much 90% of what I do on the computer with the iPhone. So the computer stays home, the iPhone gets charged using my car charger and I'm so much happier
Still waiting for that subnotebook though... This post has been edited by tishaban: Nov 8 2007, 11:22 PM |

nooo, just checked out my iphone and i managed to tinge the top a little bit -- a spec of the silver next to the sim card slot has disappeared; hardly noticeable, but brings me sadness to know that my $400 investment has some damage...need a case for my iphone asap...right now i'm using the ipod socks, but it doesn't have full protection. when you guys get your iphone, make sure you get a case for it!

Flip cases are nice... I used to own xda2i which comes with the leather cases... and i realised that it has take away the identity of the gadget... its more like a organizer... So this time i choose to use BELKIN cases... cos i still can have my iphone well shown to ppl and get it protected...

In the States, im afraid. The 4 curled up edges keeps the clear case in place nicely.
I think i may have seen it somewhere else though not the exact look. Still a clear case. Cant remember where though, it may even be in stores i've been outside of the country. Im sorry, memory have been poor lately, been eating too much steaks and not enough fish. |

i tried silicon, crystal, ipod sock, piel frama, krusell. i think the piel frama got the best quality but it's also the most expensive one. for daily use i choose silicon one since it does not add any thicker to iphone. i can simply just put into my jean pocket~ for quality shd be piel frama ~

Usually if you looking for the Piel Farma ones there is a shop in Funan Centre Singapore that just sells leather protective casing for all types of phones and I suspect they will have one for Iphone. Last time I bought for E91 ostrich leather was SGD130. Its on the far side of the escalator 3rd floor I think.
Hong Kong has been selling a few of the incase leather ones and some metal casing too in black and silver. You can find it at Wan Chai Computer centre. |

Unless there are some more affordable good looking cases around, I'll have to go for the Piel Farma. |

Just got my iphone last night (8GB with 1.1.1), a friend of mine bought in US, took back to S'pore to unlock and passed to me.
I searched around for but could not find answer for the following (maybe I did not search thoroughly or I lack of the required skill - I am the earlier generation) : I am using DIGI. When I dial a number (e.g. 012), a message appears : Call Forward ... and gave me 2 options. I ignore it and my call did not get through. I dialled again and this time I chose DISMISS and my call can get through. Can anyone help or show me where the answer located. Thank you. |

Around the same price as Piel Farma. Sometimes the gadget store at Low Yat may have but overprice. ALERT Firmware 1.1.2 and iTunes 7.5
Hi There This unfortunately is not good news! Apple has launched a new iTunes version 7.5 (this is safe) and new firmware 1.1.2 (this is NOT) for the the iPhone. The new firmware 1.1.2 plugs the jailbreak exploit employed by jailbreakme.com - so until we figure out what to do, please avoid upgrading your firmware. Be happy to stay at 1.1.1. On cursory review of 1.1.2, the only difference (apart from plugging the jailbreeak hole) is the internationalization of languages and keyboards. As some of you already know, that is something we have done on our own on firmware 1.1.1 to handle Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese input. There is absolutely no benefits to move to 1.1.2 as far as we know. This is a ALERT to all of you, to DEFER upgrade to 1.1.2 UNTIL further notice. In the meantime, we are working out a process to let all of you restore at 1.1.1 and enjoy all the new features included in it. Watch out for our next posting. |

Tried updating via iTunes, it still identifies the 1.1.1 as being the latest update. Using this on a Mac though, any luck with those on Windows?
There are no way to discern between iPhones with newer firmware, based on the production week, unless the guys at Hackint0sh starts compiling again. I have a colleague going to LA end of this month, and he's kinda worried himself if he's getting 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. We shall see........ |

*raises hand*
Been using it since its RM99 days. Was trial-testing this between Celcom 3G to see which one suits me, and this wins me hands down. I've been burned by false promises on speed of 3G/HSDPA from Celcom to even bother with their nonsense. Hadnt have much problems with Digi since, apart from having slightly more patience waiting for the pages/download to finish. |

I called maxis helpdesk twice yesterday and spoken to 2 different ppl. Here's what the first guy got to say:- yes, they are aware of the problem and the work is underway to fix rectify it. but can't commit to any dates as to when it'll be ok. It cud be as quick as this mth or a couple of mths. what's assuring is that they said work's underway... The second person i spoke to was funny: - she told me i wasnt the first to call in and say and that helpdesk hv raised the issue to management but till today, management has not said anything to them abt updating the towers. But normally, they'll work directly wit the vendors to fix the problem. I then asked her can they work wit the vendor when the phone's not even supposed to be officially sold here? She said "I dunno".. which is classic... heheh... So, the conclusion is, u pick who u wanna believe... hehehe... kinda ridiculous if u ask me how the biggest mobile carrier in malaysia can afford to deliver such mixed messages.. Meanwhile, sign this online petition... i hope it works... Maxis iPhone Online Petition |

Come to think of it, maybe the whole idea of rolling iPod Touch is to make iPhone look better
On a side note, installed about 6 extra applications and started to experience some lag on my iPhone while scrolling. It's quite minimal though but the scrolling was so smooth it became moderately obvious. Anybody else experiencing this? I kind of drained all the free space, too. P/S iphonegizmo, I'm still eagerly waiting for your reply |

They are also monitoring the purchases from non-iPhone available country. .. but there're some different cases too. How many u wanted to buy? Can try 2. I don't think they already have 1.1.2 in the States. The 1.1.2 is for the UK launch. But maybe they have it. Not sure about this. Gamble?

It has been discussed before about tax.. and tips on how to avoid being checked .. best way, take out the unit from the box and stuffed in his jacket / pocket. Declare as a personal item. ..
Take sometime to read this thread .. you'll found MORE tips. |

New iPhone Firmware 1.1.2 Hacked Before Release
iPhone 1.1.1 prepped for 1.1.2 jailbreak (Source: TUAW) When Apple announced the release of the iPhone for the UK, it also announced that iPhone and iPod touch firmware version 1.1.2 would be released at the same time. Released today, firmware 1.1.2 closes the TIFF vulnerability in mobile Safari that was used to jailbreak firmware 1.1.1. Confirmed by DailyTech, the TIFF vulnerability no longer works. However, despite Apple's effort to lockdown the iPhone and iPod touch, firmware 1.1.2 has already been jailbroken. Credit go to the people behind AppSnap, the same utility used to jailbreak 1.1.1 devices. According to TUAW, testing of the new jailbreak began several nights ago, when the new 1.1.2 firmware was made available for download not through iTunes, but through Apple's website. In its current stage, the new jailbreak requires several steps in order to complete, and is by no means release ready and user friendly. AppSnap and jailbreakme.com still remains open for 1.1.1 only, but the new jailbreak is being prepared for the same single tap installation. According to TUAW's report, firmware 1.1.1 is required in order for the jailbreak to work with 1.1.2, although it is unclear at this point whether or not this will still be a requirement once AppSnap is officially updated. Those with hacked 1.1.1 devices may wish to hold off from upgrading to 1.1.2 since it does not appear to provide any significant upgrade. The only noticeable change is the inclusion of several international language packs. Jailbreaking may become a thing of the past if Apple keeps its promise. Apple announced in early October that come February 2008, developers will have an official iPhone SDK. The announcement was well received by the developer community. Currently, third-party applications for the iPhone are done via web applications and are mostly cumbersome to use and slow in nature. http://www.dailytech.com/New+iPhone+Firmwa...article9619.htm |

Plus as stringfellow meticulously explained in the previous thread, Apple contractual agreements with several telcos overseas does not allow them to sell it that cheap and unlocked.I say this rumour is BUSTED Maybe it might come next year, but you can bet that the overall package from the telco will cause you to pay more than an unlocked phone. Unless you can buy it for RM1700 and unlock it yourself? I talked to a Apple employee and they haven't heard anything at all. This post has been edited by uncleberg: Nov 11 2007, 05:22 PM |

RM1700? Well treat it as a joke cum rumor spreading in order to cut down our price from current batch of unlocked iPhone.....
As a reseller for iPhone, everyday I am disturbed by SMSes from unknown ppl telling me that he or she can get RM800 only for iPhone at lelong.com.my so hope I can revise my price so and forth... ya Spore street price at Sim Lim Square is S$950 (rate is 2.33 to 2.38 depends on where you exchange currency) This post has been edited by Austin: Nov 11 2007, 06:13 PM |

uncleberg, agreed with you. I've heard before that maxis & celcom is trying to get the exclusive contract with Apple for the iPhone. But now with maxis problems with call-in, its gonna be a loong way fer them.
not sure about celcom as they are so gang-ho of their 3G. look everywhere, their 3g life never stops billboards. perhaps digi should bid fer it .. no? |

Hence there will be a lucrative market for unlocked phones. A frown in I'm mentioned to me the overall costs to get an iPhone from o2 will cost around Rm5000.not sure about celcom as they are so gang-ho of their 3G. look everywhere, their 3g life never stops billboards. perhaps digi should bid fer it .. no? |

Tell you what, if this does come through, i'll buy you one. Deal? The condition must be it is RM1700 and no need to hack. The consequences of Apple selling the iPhone at an unsupported region, and at THAT discounted/subsidized price will have disastrous effect on other areas .We will have influx of foreigners coming to Malaysia just to get that cheap of an iPhone and unlocked too, from the way you worded it. Those keeping up with the scene, there is a new app on Installer called Sysinfo. This app allows looking at what processes are running on the iPhone and terminate them if needed. This is especially useful when it comes to problematic apps, such as Internet Radio that i had installed a couple days back. Had it uninstalled, but pretty interesting to see what the resources are being used for within the iPhone.
Tap that Installer and get installing! |

Installed and running! Btw, how to end / close an application so that it wont run at the background? Kill it with SysInfo?

Run the app.
Tap "Processes" and pick the stubborn app that you want to kill. Mine was the Internet Radio that slowed my iPhone to a crawl. Uninstalled that bugger. |

What version appeared after u tap Version? (it's *3001#12345#* btw).. from strayato.hirzaki's post in V2 thread, this is how you know;
The following guide will match the firmware revision to the firmware version. 03.12.06_G - firmware version 1.0.0 03.14.08_G - firmware version 1.0.1 or 1.02 04.01.13_G - firmware version 1.1.1 <-- mine 04.02.04_G - firmware version 1.1.1 *credit goes to http://www.mydigitallife.info What's urs? Mine was the Internet Radio that slowed my iPhone to a crawl. Uninstalled that bugger. |

Btw for those of you who jailbreaked your iPhone, you guys can go to Installer and find for SysInfo. It's a great app to watch for app processes and kill them. Just like Task Manager.

QUOTE(Mandy Sim @ Nov 11 2007, 07:48 PM) On the contrary, as I visit Sim Lim quite often, It would seem that the iPhone 8gb unlocked versions are selling about SG$820-880 for a brand new set.. Mind to tell which store at SLS can get $700 for 2ndhand iPhone? & $820 for brand new iPhone? Whereas the second hand iPhones instead are about SG$700-780 range.. It appears that it is much cheaper to get an iPhone in S'pore in comparison to the bulks or at the ones being sold in the Garage sales at the moment.. If you mean the hardwarezone forum's those auction threads with start bid @ $700 but always ended at >$830 then I have no comment. QUOTE(Valendia @ Nov 12 2007, 11:28 AM) I'm not sure if what i said was classified info...but... Switch Shop are just resellers. Like the guys in the Tradezone. Sadly most of their items are overpriced. Switch shop employees are in the bottom rung in the coporate ladder, hence :-Just go to any Switch Shop and ask... just sharing the tips... I don't mind if you don't believe me a) They know nothing about upper management secrets. b) They will sprout all sorts of rumours to keep customers happy. This reminds me of the Wii rumors which was about the official Wii launch for Malaysia. The "Wii Launched in Malaysia" topic in LYN lasted about 90 pages and a year and a half without any official confirmation. It was just filled with rumours like "the guy working in the nintendo outlet in MV say official launch coming next month.. Got booking list liao. Faster book!!!" or "My friend in singapore distributer say malaysian launch coming soon with the pricing at RM1XXX". Until now still no official launch here yet. Anyway, since this is the iphone thread, you can post any rumours you hear. However remember that you're misleading and fooling buyers into waiting for that official launch that might NEVER arrive to our shores. To the potential iPhone buyers, I urge you not to wait any longer and just buy the most fantastic piece of ass (handphone) I've ever laid my hands on. Many friends who recently bought HTCs, Dopods cannot believe can get iPhone for the same price. They all complain why I never inform them. So now, I'm informing you to buy it. Maybe you should wait for the price stop fluctuating abit. I bought mine around 2k and its 2300 now. Most of the sellers don't mind negotiating. (I wasted to much time This post has been edited by uncleberg: Nov 12 2007, 02:08 PM |

Its not a rumor... its official... RM1700 is the price confirmed by Apple Malaysia and Apple US has confirmed that it will ship to Malaysia in 2008.
However, since you know best, i guess we should follow your advice la hor? Since Ms.little nobodies like me who don't know a thing and do not sell IPhones haven't enough authority to give infomation. Those who choose to believe, its either your gain or loss, depending on the point of view. I'm just doing a favour cos i feel some people who sell these uh potentially lockable phones without proper warranty are overpricing them ... Anyways, its up to the consumer to choose on which side to believe ! Cheerio ! This post has been edited by Valendia: Nov 12 2007, 03:18 PM |

Link or proof of this allegations of yours , or it did not happen. Anybody can say that and spread rumors all around. USD399 or RM1400 is the subsidized price, an unlocked version as you claim will be significantly more than that. Hell, even the legitimately unlocked French iPhone is said to be more than you claim here.
My offer still stands, I will BUY you ONE iPhone if it is RM1700 & legitimately unlocked by Apple themselves. Listening to FUDs spread by uninformed low-level lackeys from Switch is not a wise or a reliable source of information. Everywhere else around the world are waiting for their regional launch and you claim we are going to get it first before them? What a load of horseshit! It's no wonder the Apple veterans around here grow tired with the nonsense spewed around here, and gave up posting here totally, thanks to the steady stream of nonsense like this being posted. Hell, if it's RM1700 and Apple-unlocked ,i'll buy another one for myself just for shits and giggles! Added on November 12, 2007, 3:39 pmIf it is OFFICIAL, where are the news links, articles and such? If this is embargoed information, I can easily report you to Apple for breaching your NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and you'll get into more trouble than you care to imagine. All this talk of "I hear this from someone remotely working with Apple" is getting on my nerves! Apple Malaysia is nothing more than a subsidiary of Apple Singapore, and if anything, they (Apple SG) would be the one breaking the news first, not Apple Malaysia. Its really simple you want it you can't tahan get it now and have no regrets price you pay for getting it first. You want to wait for rumours go ahead, until there is an official statement its still a rumour even if its from a reliable source cause the only official news will be from the website stating such a price

I am more than glad to proven wrong here, for the sake of us users. In fact, please let me be wrong so that I can afford another iPhone, with no hassle whatsoever when it comes to firmware upgrades. But as I said , the chances of seeing this happening is nonexistent.

Read my post carefully. I'm standing by my opinion that chances of that happening is zero, but if it does happen and I am proven wrong, I am perfectly happy as well. Why? A second unit for me with ZERO hassles updating, and everyone else who waited gets their own affordable iPhones as well. Win-win situation.
I am not bashing, I am expounding the realities of this world we live in. A lot of those hoping and pining on the notion that Apple would even consider a local release here are pining their hopes on things that would not happen, based on current existential evidences. Yes, you can hope and dream, but living your life on illogical dreams is not healthy. |

Im not denying the validity of the strategies a lot here used to get their stuff, in fact i use them myself. What i dont agree with is that claims made as fact, when there arent any evidence or proof to back these claims up. I'll be the first to thank the bearer of such good news if this is true, but at the moment, such news , if provided without evidence, will only heighten the hopes of those waiting, and that, to me is evil. You give false hope to people, and when things doesnt come true, these folks will be devastated. Better tell them what's really going on, the facts and the figures, and let them decide from there. If you give them baseless inf without any proof, they will end up disappointed for wait for so long and still not seeing the price point they have waited for that long a period.
People may hate me for being harsh with my post, but all im doing is telling people what they dont like to hear, the realities of things. I dont deal with hopes, dreams or speculations. I deal with numbers, facts and figures, or at the very least, educated guesses based on current pattern. That way, i dont build my hopes up (and the hopes of others) and get exremely disappointed when things doesnt happen as i hoped/dreamed it to be. Let me reiterate again, i am with you, not against you. I'll be there with you, lining up at Machines/Switch/Apple Stores here, if that case happens. I'll share the joys of how lucky we are when this happens, because frankly, this means Apple finally recognizes us as a viable market. But how viable is this scenario to happen? And the more you dream and dwell on this dream to happen, the more disappointed you will become when it didnt happen. This post has been edited by stringfellow: Nov 12 2007, 06:20 PM |

A second unit for me with ZERO hassles updating, and everyone else who waited gets their own affordable iPhones as well. Win-win situation. Fully agree with you. Don't be naive, RM1700 is absolutely not possible. Let's see the offer from Switch for itouch where the "exchange rate" is USD1 to RM4.40 (price of itouch/ipod in USD and RM). iphone is selling USD399 in US multiply with 4.4, you need to pay more than RM1750 to have it in Malaysia. Who will sell you an iphone with exchange rate USD1=RM3.40? Who will pay for the transport charges, import duty, sales tax...bla-bla-bla.I am not bashing, I am expounding the realities of this world we live in. Yes, you can hope and dream, but living your life on illogical dreams is not healthy. If we can get RM1700 unlocked iphone here, people from all other parts of the world will buy here and "export" back to their home country. Apple will (in fact SHOULD) work with only 1 telco instead of offering an officially "unlocked" phone to malaysian (stop dreaming...). How would AT&T think if Apple starts selling the officially "unlocked" phone in M'sia ? I am very happy with my iphone even without any additional apps installed (cos' I don't know how to do it). If you really think of getting one, don't wait for the RM1700 unit, a dream is always a dream... I'll share the joys of how lucky we are when this happens, because frankly, this means Apple finally recognizes us as a viable market. But how viable is this scenario to happen? And the more you dream and dwell on this dream to happen, the more disappointed you will become when it didnt happen. This post has been edited by lohchlcm: Nov 12 2007, 11:42 PM |

Hi ALL,
I'm at UK now attending a conference... Got a chance to go to carphonewarehouse and o2 stores to check out the UK iPhone. Its priced at GBP 269 and requires you to sign 18 months contract with o2. And you will have to do the contract immediately unlike the US operation mode which you do it at home. Got the chance to look at the accessories as well.. They aren't cheap... |

Grrr..I just found three new scratches at the bottom of my iphone (the black part) and I have no idea how I got them. I put the phone in my pocket with my headphones; so its either the headphones that scratched it, or when I put it on the dock I accidently scrapped it against the metal part.
So are you guys keeping your iphone in perfect condition? Any idea how I can get rid of the scratches? |

I would advise those itching to update and jailbreak to 1.1.2 to hold their horses first. The GUI version of the jailbreak is coming, and even after jailbreaking, some apps wont install , since they are marked to work with 1.1.1 only. This is verified by Erica Sadun at TUAW.
For the iPod Touch folks, this should be okay, but bear in mind of those apps requiring "1.1.1 signature to install" only. For the iPhone, from the way they put it, this is only for the jailbreak, not the unlocking. I dont see the hurry of updating to 1.1.2, it only adds international keyboards and battery icon inside iTunes. Nothing really worthwhile IMO. |

just received my iphone yesterday morning... activated & unlocked without problems based on instructions from http://iphone.unlock.no/ ... Currently using maxis sim card, roaming on vodafone... Everything works fine... Just hope that the maxis call-in problem will be fixed by the time i get back, or else i might switch to digi...
Anyways, i think the talk about iPhones gonna be officially sold for RM1700 in Malaysia next year is total bull crap!! I doubt that Malaysia is even on Apple iPhone's marketing team radar at the moment.... I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Malaysia isn't even in the country list when you wanna add an address to a contact.... That's just a tiny thing though, lots of countries aren't there and i hope they'll include it in future firmware revisions... One other main reason why I think Malaysia will not receive the iPhone officially in the near future is because Malaysia isn't even mapped in Google Maps... Maps is one of the most featured applications on the iPhone, and it's a shame that Malaysians can't fully utilize it.... Try do whatever that guy in the "Calamari" advert did, it's just impossible... US,UK,Germany & France are all supported by Google maps and the maps are linked with local business directories... I'm lucky to be able to enjoy the feature as well, as Australia's Google map is linked with the truelocal.com.au business directory, so it's possible to search for businesses & find directions... Singapore is mapped, but even then the map has yet to be linked to any directory... So yeah, I would say that the probability of a Malaysian iPhone launch is very very very low.... |

If I wish to extend the lifespan of the iPhone battery, do the followings help ?
Connect to AC power supply while : 1) on ipod mode / watching video 2) surfing (wifi or edge) 3) having extended phone call / phone conference By doing the above, am I consuming the power directly from AC or from the battery ? For the case of notebook, when AC is connected, the power supply becomes direct instead of through battery. You can remove the battery and operate the notebook with AC. Since we can't remove the iPhone battery, if we forgo some mobility and use AC - could I "extend" the lifespan of my battery by having less charge cycle within a certain period ? Any advice ? Thanks. |

lohchlcm, Apple has the following battery guide for the iPhone. Google is your friend...
However, I think the dock connector is a bit on the fragile side to me and it may break if you do what you mentioned. That is truly irreplaceable. |

Guys need help here,
I just gotten my iPhone which have firmware version 1.1.1. So in order to unlock it, I straight away perform the following steps? QUOTE Bypass activation and prepare phone for software installation 1. Make sure you have a SIM-card with PIN turned off, and power on your phone (the supplied AT&T card works fine). 2. On the activation screen, slide to emergency and dial: *#301# to make the phone call itself. (If the incoming call dialog quickly disappears but it keeps ringing, just dial 0 (remove *#301# first), and it will call itself) 3. ... Just to double confirm whether I'd followed the right instructions. Thanks in advance. This post has been edited by Futura: Nov 15 2007, 01:40 PM |

i just got my iphone 2 days from the UK. with the 1.1.2 firmware. managed to jailbreak it after a few hours of research :S
only way now for me to unlock it is to make it compatible with anySIM by downgrading the baseband which is the trickiest part. iv read a few post that saying 1.1.2 cant be jailbroken. what i did was downgrade the firmware to 1.1.1 and leave in DFU mode. then use iBrickr to boot it. |

Interesting, I turned off forwarding in the iPhone and tried calling with my old Nokia. Usually almost instantly I'll get the Error in Connection mesage on the Nokia, but today it stays on "Calling ..." for a long time (prob like 1 minute?) before finally saying Error in Connection.
Location Cyberjaya. |

QUOTE(tishaban @ Nov 15 2007, 10:08 AM) lohchlcm, Apple has the following battery guide for the iPhone. Google is your friend... Checked battery guide, real through iphone manual and "Rough Guide" on iphone, none of them mentioned. However, I think the dock connector is a bit on the fragile side to me and it may break if you do what you mentioned. That is truly irreplaceable. If I do it this way = AC -> POWER SOCKET -> USB CABLE -> WITH/WITHOUT DOCK CONNECTOR -> IPHONE -> HEADPHONE -> MY EARS, I should be quite safe right |

Just fer info, IF MobileOne Singapore got the deal from Apple for iPhone (as per the news release HERE, it might spill out to our shore. Why? Because M1 is one of TM's invested Tel-co abroad and if they extend the deal.. it will be to Celcom here .. erm that's only my theory lah =)
Btw, as for Maxis call in problem, the problem is similiar with Celcom 3G SIM I think. Why not try with Non-Maxis 3G SIM? Somebody's phone is working with 128k SIM. Good luck This post has been edited by aRRrgghh: Nov 15 2007, 08:09 PM |

My Kelana Jaya (SS4) area seems to be still not working..
As for conversion of normal videos, I use MediaCoder then custom settings. For DVD, I use Handbreak on my Macbook. |

To those iPhone+Maxis users who have managed to get incoming calls in your area, it might be a good idea for you all to give positive feedback to Maxis... Let them know that whatever they've been doing is actually working, and request for them to implement it nationwide.. I think they deserve encouraging feedback, at least now it's confirmed that they've been paying attention to all the complaints...
I've secured myself a Digi number, just in case they haven't rolled out the patch in my area by the time I come home at the end of this month... I've always been using Maxis, and will continue to use Maxis once they've sorted everything out |

Some concrete news for maxis users. I have been in contact with their technical department for quite some time and these are the latest news. I begun my email by asking;
QUOTE I have been reading local forum sites that has been reporting that incoming calls with the iPhone has been successful with Maxis in the Subang area. I have just tested - I am located in Bangsar - and I am also able to receive incoming calls on Maxis network on the iPhone. Similar success responses are also coming from the Damansara area. My friend in Pandan area, however reported that it is still not working. Can I enquire as to whether this is a testing phase or a decidedly planned rollout for the incoming call service for the iPhone? This was the response - QUOTE We are in the midst of a testing phase for our solution. We will further confirm that the I-phone will be working in few more days time. Your patience in this matter is greatly appreciated. Certainly looks like they are able to resolve the problem. Cheers. |

QUOTE(lohchlcm @ Nov 15 2007, 09:04 PM) Thanks for the warning - I almost become Penny Wise Pound Foolish. But will Apple accept the "unlocked" iphone for battery replacement ? Is there any shop able to change the iphone battery ? I may be worrying too much and too early since most of our iphone batteries are still new. Wait another 6-12 months when the batteries start to wear out, then you'll see more 3rd party batteries available so you can bypass Apple altogether. It's the same with the iPods.btw Maxis call in still not working in the Puchong/Sunway area. |

I've successfully upgraded to 1.1.2. Beware, it's quite an involved process as you need to create new symlinks for the local MCCMNC, edit UIPhoneFormats.plist and patch AppSupport, otherwise MobileSMS.app and MobilePhone.app will crash because it can't find how to format phone numbers.
Bit more info: I originally unlocked on OOTB 1.1.1 using IPSF, and the unlock was maintained even after I upgraded to 1.1.2. Therefore, I conclude that IPSF has proven itself well, i.e. people who unlocked even as early as 1.0.2 using IPSF has never had to rerun the unlock as the unlock state has maintained as they upgraded to 1.1.1 and now 1.1.2. |

one question, why does this problem will occur? like the maxis call in problems, coz i'm still amazed by why it can happen? sms and call out works perfectly but for people to call in, depends on area...is it that the firmware causing the problem or wat?

QUOTE(Futura @ Nov 17 2007, 12:29 AM) One quick question: If you're talking about unlocking without using a computer, you'll need access to the internet via an UNSECURED wifi network... Unsecured as in no encryption keys, no mac address filtering, etc...To unlock iPhone need to have access to the Internet via Wi-fi? Or just Wi-fi coverage? Coz I dont have Wi-fi at home, but surrounding me got a few secured AP... There are other methods that can be used if you don't have access to an unsecured wifi network... Read 1st post |
