Before you mods lock this thread, this is not a duplicate thread. My reason is that the 6500 Slide and 6500 Classic phones should have 2 separate threads because these are two VERY different phones as stated here

Can flash backgrounds and wallpapers be used with the 6500 Slide?

Where is the ambient light sensor?
It is placed on top next to the speaker grill, opposite the front camera

Can the ambient light sensor be disabled?
No it can't

I think it is a great phone. Much better than the 6300. It has no FM Radio but with 1GB Memory you can add your own music and listen to on the phone.


So, in short, what's the best way to transfer video to this phone?

transfer using bt2.0 is fast......if use cable then it is faster

no external memory card?

Whaaa? So few people talking about 6500 Slide? Why?

Anyway I finally got to hold a 6500 Slide last weekend and it is very solid (My previous phones are various Nokia 6xxx's and 8xxx's series)... My excitement on this phone has been dulled down by the fact it took so long to arrive in Malaysia. I'll be buying it next month when the price hopefully drops by ~rm100 and any firmware bugs have been cleared out (such as 3 second lag when sliding the phone up to answer call).

finally touched n feel the real 6500 slide at Jusco Cheras Selatan. ..the phone was indeed very solid
but wat amazed me was the price was even more "solid" RM1888.00...oh my G*D

rm1888?? cannot be la..saw in KLCC in promo booth..selling RM1599 mah.

Does this phone support a2dp?

Look quite good as I attracted witht the solid casing and camera.
But s40 kinda turn down.. oh ya, the price as well.
Wanna know how much the difference with s60 cause been using s60 for long time.

3 second lag? Wow.. that's quite long. Any current user can confirm bout this? Anymore drawback feature?

At the moment, this phone is consider expensive.

The phone is really slim and nice, tested at a roadshow at amcorp mall during lunch.

But the speaker volume as always still cannot be on par with sony ericsson.

The interface when browsing through the menu is quite laggy, i wonder why my 7370 also navigates faster and smoother

Apperently the phone will hang for 3 second after sliding, then only you can hear/speak.

Too bad..It's true..Myself facing this problem...somehow I need to time myself when answering call..

Testing one out now. So far, complaints is..it has a 4 to 5 second lag after taking shots although pic quality is good enough..and de zoom is not very clear..the led flash is very bright which is good. the rest see first..need to test dulu

so far never encounter this problem, maybe i'm slow. slide ... 5sec then only put the phone near my ear and say HALO

I think original zitron is around RM2100? can anyone confirm this?

I think its lower than that.. if im not wrong its near to 1.8k only..but i didnt check ori price..ap is around 1.5 or 1.4 if u can get it cheap. plus i dont get de 3 sec lag..just de super delay after taking pictures is wats worrying me

elegant design classic n i like slide..but anyway, is the sound quality good? i'm jz worried they've improve the cam wif carl zeis but degrade the music function..

This phone's OS is S40.

Does that mean I can't get any nice theme online to install to this phone?

I've gotten a chance to hold that phone a week ago in 1 Utama. Though it's not a working phone but I fell in love with that phone there and then. The weight of that phone is perfectly matched to it's size. The buttons are comfortable to be pressed and it should be an ease for me to type SMS-es since I do SMS a lot in 1 day.

Any way I am looking forward to see how far this phone's price will fall and will get one for myself

I just got 6500 slide AP few day ago, look n feel nice to me.

Bought it at RM13XX at cheras - full set with 256MB.

The delay 3 second is not big deal to me, just press to green/received button b4 slide down will be fine.

I got one problem hope nokia user can help me, I have personalise - Profiles for different ring tone, and the phone will go back to original nokia ring tone for a while, I found it is because the timed function. How can I disable the timed function under Profiles - Settings?

Overall this phone work fine for me, good camera quality and reception got no problem, battery can last me 2 days for one full charge.

Hmm yea it's around that price though. Anyway you got the memory card together in the box or you topped up some cash for the memory card?

Going back to your timed profile, I am not too sure with the newer phones but you can opt not to set the timed profile when you are switching between profiles from the menu.

Why don't you try this...transfer your ringtone to phone's memory instead of memory card..then use it from phone's memory
By the way..when u said timed function, how long does it takes before revert to default tones?

The timed function is useful to set, but I cant set off the timed function. It will revert back to the default tone in what it have in the timed function. the timed function dont have a disable option. Now still play around to find way to solve the problem.

I cannot opt to off the timed function when I switch different profiles.
The price I paid is with 256MB ram, I used my previous 1GB MicroSD from my Nokia 6233. No trade-in involve for this price.

But my friend told me I can option for another package come with 1GB microSD which about RM100 extra.

Really try to budget to get this phone. It's so attractive to me. But, so many people complaint about the bug in the OS.

Just got myself a Martin Fields screen protector for this phone.

Comments

- Make sure you are in a dust free environment when applying the screen protector. The back surface of the screen protector is a dust magnet.
- The protector for the camera lens is just the size of the back panel hole. (Does not cover the entire glass) Cons : Difficult to make sure it's right in the center. I spent a good 10-20 mins just on this section of the phone only.

Great phone and I noticed it's a little bit faster when used with a 2GB miniSD. Anyone else had a similar experience ?

my sis use this phone, after i try it here some comment.
1.the sound from the loudspeaker loud and clear.
2.the music player is ok, can change theme.
3.camera also quite good,no need to set to macro mode to snap close object.
4.this phone is heavy for me.

If u consider tis phone , den need to rmb tis phone only hav 1 speaker its not stereo for loud speaker, still my N95 8GB speaker nicer xD
But something it's batter den N95 is the slider... the phone slider is SOLID man u can feel the SOLID of the slider not like the loose lousy N95's slider

Can the 6500s record tele-conversation & does it hv any limit?

hye i'm previously a 3230 owner, and that fon had symbian S60 OS... i had a lot of things installed in there like picture editor, dictionary (oxford) and document viewer (repligo). however, while reading all the reviews for this fon (6500), i noticed that the word symbian is never mentioned... so what is the difference between S60 and S40? can i still install all the other applications that i had on my 3230 on 6500? thanx!

anyone update the latest software 4.81 ???

Updated to 4.81 couple days back, still finding the differences from the previous FW. So far:

- speaker more solid, loud & clear (music player & hands free)
- seems to be faster & less lag. On the previous FW, 2GB memory card seems slow
- previously, the front buttons less responsive & sometimes have to press few times. Now, seems OK.
- not sure 3sec lag to answer when slide still there, kinda get used to the lag
- camera less grainy when zoom in but still grainy.

the keypad look like crap, obvious scratches from sliding. You have to put ur thumb on the screen to slide up/down. Using the rubber under the screen, u can hear the slide scratching the keypad. ouch

camera performance: abit slow to display after snap. When u zoom in, image becomes grainy esp at night. It all depends on the sensor. Enough ambient light, clear pictures. Less, grainy pictures. In all, good lighting & angle & steady hands = shockingly great pictures

Its a great phone for minimalist and oh the steel body becomes really hot after long usage but still its a head turner lah.

just bought the 6500slide over the weekend. A bit of pain since I have not use Nokia the last 5 years as I'm on either SE or Alcatel. I find the menu on Nokia a pain in the neck, so have to get used to it.

The 3.2 CZ lens is wasted without proper thinking on Nokia with the menu access. In my previous SE800, you can view and edit the camera function very easily in camera mode. The 6500 need you to move to gallery menu and out of camera mode! sigh!

Its 4.8.1 FM and already hang 1 time, apparently from the lagging. So far after getting use to how it works, its fine!

overall ?conclusion?

To nokia users, the menu seems fine. It takes time to get comfortable. As for me, i dun prefer SE menu, altho the tabbing style is good.

Not sure what camera setting ur talking but there's an option button for you to change settings, if thats what u are looking for.

got a hands on experience with the slide last week...if u don't care too much bout the imaging, then its a good choice...it took more than 8 seconds to save your image and it seems like the Carl Zeiss 3.2 MP Optics is just a bluff...

anyway, it is nice to hold and nice to see too...it is a solid phone with a nice sliding method...u can feel the "click" everytime you slide it up and down...offered @ RM1250 (AP) together with the 1GB external memory...

after about an hour later, I choose SEK810i...the looks maybe not on par with the slide but inside i tell u, far more better...like a original nasik lemak sold at the kedai kopi compare to nasik lemak cook at the hotel...ehehe....

Though one need to be familiar with the menu, I can tell you with the SE, I did not even flip the manual and the setting is much easier. Even more easier with Alcatel One Touch.

Doing SMS or taking picture/viewing picture etc is a lot more faster with less step/menu pressing. The predictive more key stroke to activate and off vs SE where it have a more simple and direct access.

The 6500 require you to click a few times to enter gallery mode and its viewing is in potrait mode when you are using the camera in landscape where as the K800 will allow you to view in landscape as in Camera mode but will be on potrait mode when you view the picture via file manager. That is intuitive! Nokia CZ is suppose to be trump card as such it should implement the camera menu to be a bit more intuitive away from phone menu. Also there are no direct access to the camera setting which is why another downer for a camera that carry CZ lens!

I'm not impressed with the battery bar. Its full for 1.5 day, suddenly it just drop 1/3 bar instead of the usual gradual decreasing. The batt icon does not have like 3 or 5 bar either to indicate if that 1/3 drop is indeed 33% reduction.

Having said since I already I bought it, I will stick with the 6500, but I'm not impressed with the implementation given the amount of phone that Nokia has been selling. I always have impression Nokia is much ahead of SE in terms of phone implementation but clearly in my case it is not.

But because of the typical market perception I probably can trade it in for a decent amount 1 year down the road!

Kit-Kit in garage sales got it.

6500 slide and 5610 XM is almost the same phone.
just the 5610 got music button.
inside almost the same.

I'm using a crystal casing with screen protector. Very fit the phone and my phone just looks new with the casing on.

Recommended to get one for your lovely phone!!

Ermm, my sis just got her 6500 slide around 2 weeks ago.
And after i test it, i found out there are some problems.

1. When i take picture, it takes around 6-7 seconds to load.
2. Yesterday after finish playing with the phone, it did not go to power saver mode. The screen just stay on, bright until I on/off the phone. Then it goes back to lock mode after idle for awhile.

Is there any solution for problem 1? and is problem 2 a serious problem?

this phone problems is the memory card there. there is a connector to the memory card holder, cause it sometimes cant see the memory card details

Yes , its true, even Zitron & AP set got same problem with memory card connector.
Not detect memory card...

Customer are recommend to test & check memory card either detect or not.

6500 are better than 5610 because have Carls Zeiss Lens, TV Out & The Body of the phone
are feel very......

last time already tiao by a customer... luckily he is understanding... in the end, the supplier change a new one to him(of course his phone not scratch lar..)

try putting the ringtone in the phone memory, not the memory card.
many seems to solve the bug by doing this
