before the start of ramadhan.
came back from long trip to northern thailand then to terengganu. bike is acting up, wanna stall when low speed downshift.
happened a few times. changing spark plug and injector cleaner improved, but didn't fully solve the issue.

so i opened him up to check the valve clearance and topside.
user posted image

intake valve is squeaky clean
user posted image

but throttle body is a bit dirty.
user posted image

replaced 2 shims that is borderline out of spec. set it back to center clearance.
user posted image

triumph tigers is using 7.48mm shims which is the same size used in Ysuku Y15, Y16, honda RS, RSX, and yamaha LC and other kapcais.
only RM4 each and easily found in kapcai spare part shops. thumbsup.gif

everything underneath the valve cover looks clean.
oil is at 3500km when i open. oil is still clean.

inspected and measured the cams, timing chain, chain guides, tensioner.
all within acceptable tolerance, but the timing chain is nearly at maximum spec (-2.5mm from limit).
gonna place an order for it and change after a few thousand km.

cleaned the throttle body and intake

reset the tensioner, cycled the engine a few times to make sure everything lines up.

reinstalled everything and the bike roars back to life.
solved the low speed stalling.

cost me RM60 for a new cam chain guide. replaced since already bought.
everything else using back the current part. didn't even replace the gasket since it looks ok.

total cost RM60 + RM8 for the shims.
this bike is cheaper to run than my myvi laugh.gif

Parts ordered from triumph hatyai. Cheaper than triumph malaysia even after conversion. About 30% cheaper.

Take 5 days to arrive and it's only half an hour from my office.

Actually certain components like shims can be really cheap if you take your time to source for it.

For example, KTM shims for my NK were 50 a pop. CFmoto ones are 10 a pop. Generic ones are 5 a pop.

Not sure about the generic ones, but the KTM and Cfmoto ones are identical as both KTM and Cfmoto LC8C are manufactured in the same.plant.

if you have friends able to use thai prompt pay QR with thai bank account can transfer using thai QR.
doesn't work with malaysian cross-border QR payment tho. maybe thai local account.

with the amount of border crossings im doing, probably best for me to sign up with a thai bank account.
can use thai's local promptpay QR payment

my mistake when doing vc last time was not asking the shop if the gasket i had inside still usable, just told them to replace it and looking at the gasket after replacement it is still usable laugh.gif
maybe could've asked them to use generic shim too

lesson learnt

Not much can be saved with a gasket though. I just replaced all of mine when I did the VC. Of course I supplied the parts.

I tried to find the gasket by myself and only manage to find it through UK website.. needless to say it is way more expensive than what the shop quoted.
Really want that thailand supply chain contact for conti bike to get things cheaper laugh.gif

Beauty of Chinese bikes. Easy to source parts on your own via taobao.

My 35k VC job on the NK was relatively decent cost wise.

labour for VC - 200 (done by Cfmoto flagship store shop)
Oil from shop - 270. Motorex oil. 15w50 full synt

Own parts (all sourced from taobao ahead of time)

Valve cover gasket kit - 50 (old one can be reused but what the hell...must as well)
Spark plugs - 130 (factory iridium plugs)
Air filter - 25
Oil filter - 25
No fuel filter on bike.

Parts original cfmoto from china.

Total 680. And took 2 days.

Valves were in spec so not needed shims, but if needed, they were 10 each from the shop. Even if I needed to change all 8, it would only be 80 and the shop ordered the shim kit ahead of time so no need to wait for shims if it needed.

Not too bad, since usually the oil change service itself would have been 300+

As an aside, the cams and valve followers looks fine. Looks like KTM/Cfmoto fixed the cheese cam issues on the LC8C when they moved production to China (the Chinese heads were slightly different with more robust oiling channels compared to the first gen LC8C), which means KTM knew about the cam issues well ahead but kept to keep quiet

been waiting for this update from you
I wondered, who really caused the oil channel issues on the engine head? The designer or actually the party who manufactured it?

Likely the combination of both.

Unlike cars, bikes don't use roller followers, so if there is an oiling problem, you'd see accelerated wear very quickly.

The LC8c's coming out of China seems to have addressed the issue. AFAIK no reported issues on the CFMOTO 800s as of yet.

true, and I certainly hope things are better going forward, including KTM's fate

Swaped in a set of UG USD forks on my V1 Dominar. Also changed the stock 2 pot axial front caliper to the UG's 4 pot radial unit and a new front mudgard along with the triple clamps.

The Dominar rides like a new bike now. Steering bearing and forks seal busted, so it's a night and day difference.

Yes, the front wheel and brake disc spins the wrong way around (since the UG has brakes the other side of the bike) but I'm nitpicking. Will have to rotate the front tyres to the right rotation.

i always wonder about USD vs telescopic rigidity.
