Perhaps members can also inform places for re-stringing raquets - reasonable prices, good selection of strings and fast service!

I go to Ultimate Sports in Plaza Ampang. They've been in business for over 20 years, and have been in tennis for even longer, so do check them out. They have a shop in Tesco in Klang as well, so I overheard.

Actually they wanted to open a shop in Avenue K, but as you know Avenue K is a big failure although it located just next to KLCC.

I didn't know they wanted to open a shop there, but it's just as well they didn't. I don't mind taking a train down one station from KLCC. But I'll say the dingy dodgy Plaza Ampang has more character.

But Plaza Ampang is not that crowd compared to some other malls... but of course their advantage is that the rental cost is very very low... =)

Really? Cool. Let me know when you start, and I'll pop by there sometime to busybody tongue.gif

Added on October 23, 2007, 11:14 amWell, they've got 2 shops in Plaza Ampang/Center Point place. The Plaza Ampang one is the tennis shop, and the other has other stuff.

I don't know if the one in Klang is tennis only or not. Last Friday, da boss was telling a customer about his shop in Tesco Klang and that he can get his racquet restringed there and no need to travel to the KL shop. So I deduce that the shop does tennis equipment. And I heard him saying something about a McDick's (McDonalds), something like opposite or near it. Go check it out, guys.

I am! thumbup.gif

In fact, I was trying out the new strings on my K-Surge last Saturday... Turns out, I can't use that racquet properly anymore... Control quite bad. But when I switched to the K6-1, then everything was great. I guess the K-Surge not suitable for my swing anymore...

According to some research, more people are changing from mid size racquet head to a large racquet like midplus or oversize... even this happens in the pro tour where players like Sharapova prefers the headsize to be over 100 square inches.

In fact Federer is the only player using 90 square inches head size racquet...

Small racquet head provides us with more control but less power... And its a better racquet for volleys too.

Hmmm... I didn't know the pro's were moving up in racquet head size. But some of the racquet sizes look big on tv even for the men. But for the women, I thought some of them are just small sized. But I noticed Golovin was using the [K]Factor K4. That's a big head. When I was checking out the nCode nTour Two, it didn't seem big to me, so I figured Justine Henin must be really really small...

Yeah, the smaller head provides better control for sure, but I have yet to confirm the effect on volleying. The few volleys that I've done, it does feel good. I string it with a lower tension, which I believe helps quite a bit with power and spin.

Haha! No lah, I'm pass-able only lah brows.gif ... But as it turns out, I could use the size 90 head without problems. I was actually doubtful when I got the K6-1 coz all over the net people saying hard to use. But I was very surprised that I didn't have any trouble with it. Guess I was lucky I didn't waste my money tongue.gif But can confirm, that when you make a mistake, the ball is going into orbit or wherever else...

If we're talking about the same place, then the boss/owner is Raymond. They have two stores in the joined buildings. I don't go to the non-tennis store, so I don't know if there's a Sanjay there...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think the K-Surge is a very nice/good racquet, which is why I was happy with it after I bought it. Very easy to use and feels good. It's just that since I started using the K6-1 Tour, my playing style didn't work so well with the K-Surge already... So, I have to change the way I play for the K-Surge to work well...

OK, I'll put you on the list... biggrin.gif

Thats one of the ways to do business isn't it? If he's to say the stuffs he doesn't sell is good, then will the people buy from him? Just like if you are a Streamyx reseller, and you are telling people that Maxis Broadband is better than Streamyx, you think people will still sign up?

Business is about money.

Cool! Man, it's like, the last to opponents in the arcade are so hard to beat regardless of who they are. One player I find real hard to beat in the final matches is Henman, but only when he serves and volleys. They just will NOT miss any shot at the net.

But I had fun playing the Career Mode in the PC version as well. The most challenging match is of course the 'King of Players' tournament in which you face Federer. The way the AI plays him there is so difficult to beat coz his tactics are good and he switches around. I nearly broke my computer the first time I played that tournament tongue.gif

Federer also quite nice to use ma... =) I like his slice.... But his top spin backhand is quite weak.. not enough power.... Nalbandian's backhand is GREAT, but the serve so weak man... SWT....

Counter serve and volley? You have to hit the top spin shot short (add the backward arrow key) then hit to the sides..

I usually use Federer thumbup.gif

Haiyo, short topspin to the sides oso the AI can get. Most of the lobs also they can get. Seriously, at high settings, once the AI is at the net, it's almost 100% game over... So the S&V players drive me nuts. So my strategy is to reach the net before them! laugh.gif

Nolar, it can be countered.. You must observe the opponent, once you sense it moving forward, you must hit the ball short and nicely... =) The lob is useless in the game, don't use it at all...

I play the "Tournament" mode and "very hard" settings, get into the Wimbledon without losing a set... =P

Anyway, you can unlock secret players =P

Yeah, that's one reason I like the game, have to watch the opponent... Haha!

Wah, you must be damn good... 'Very Hard' and didn't drop a set... Wait, there is no set in the game... Unless you mean you didn't have to 'continue' tongue.gif

I'm collecting this info for a my data research as well as for my own benefits...me and my friends are all sports freaks.

Haha so sorry to hear that, but to be honest i didnt experience any of these problem.

If i'm not mistaken, the uncle only sell wilson rackets, but when i asked him for babolat, he also tried to get it for me. I am not sure if the price is the cheapest, because i cant really go around and ask since i am in aussie, and my parents are picking it up for me from the shop. So all i did was made a call there, ask for the racket i wanted, and my parents went to pick it. He didnt even try to sell me anything else.. but i did bought an nblade from him as well.

I just think its really convenient and reasonable... haha

Can you guys guess how much is the retail price for a babolat pure drive standard here in aussie??

Ultimate Sports also sell Babolat, and Head tennis racquets. I was there last week and (unless I'm confused with another shop) saw the Aeropro and Pure drive. I never paid attention to the Head racquets.

No, the K6-1 95 is a bit lighter than the Tour. The frame is also different. The K6-1 Team is even lighter.

Are you still aiming for the K6-1 Tour US version? I'm looking at getting one of those.

Was talking with a guy who is using the n6-1 Tour. He said he also tried the K6-1 Tour (Asian version). He thinks I'd want to checkout the US version of the K6-1 Tour as he thinks the extra weight might work well for me.

Haha! No problem. I'll try to get the numbers. But I remember that the nBlade is $375.

I shall be looking at getting the US version of the K6-1 Tour. I am quite sure the extra 0.7oz (from the Asian version) will help me with return shots, and would probably also give a more solid feel on my strokes. It's expensive as I recall when I saw it in Australia a month ago. A friend of mine will be coming back in December. Maybe I'll ask them to get it for me if I can't get it through here...

Try to ask for the cheapest price... RM375 seems to be quiet affordable, considering that its a great racquet. =) I don't think Pure Drive will be very expensive, its been released for quite long.

Haha! Well, I never bargain with them. Friend mah... I give them business, and I expect reasonable prices. But I suppose I can find out what they're letting them go for. You could go bargain with them in the end biggrin.gif

I scrapped the nBlade idea coz I think I might not be able to use it well. So going for the K6-1 US instead.

Pure drive is around 470 in malaysia i think...

but i think its really expensive to get racquet in aussie... since i am studying here and i have been to considerably many tennis shops.. and the price are all offf...

Pure drive in malaysia cost Rm470 is around Ausd360 here in aussie..

however if this is the only place that you could get the wilson Us version that you wanted... then maybe you should go ahead..

I experimented with my cousin's K 6.1 Tour 90 Asian, it lacks power,(but I can generate my own), if you want better stability, just add lead tape, preferably 1/4 , 4 to 6 inches, depends on how many layers you want and on what position on the racket, experiment abit lah, I tried at 3 and 6 o clock,If you say you want better control off the ground, Try experimenting with strings and their tensions.

I have tried Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power full poly at 53 lbs.
If you can afford it try either natural gut as a main and Luxilon as a cross, Read Federer uses this setup, but naturally he has new strung rackets at his disposal, so cost will be a factor .

Yes, I know the price is expensive in Oz, checked them out a couple of times. But hey, if it's a simpler path for getting the racquet, I suppose I'll pay the extra. But still, would see if my friend can bring it in. If not, I'll have to have it bought there and brought back. Win some lose some... unsure.gif

Got some prices for you:

nBlade: $375

Oh, and apparently no direct way to get the K6-1 US version, according to the 'retailer'. Guess I'll have to find other ways...

nblade is good.. but if you are looking for power from your racquet, you can try ncode six... i feel the racquet has plenty of power when hitting the ball, but lack of control... so its up to you to decide...

The prices do not include stringing. Usually, I end up paying 20-something or 30 bucks for the stringing, I think. But honestly, I didn't really check, but it's somewhere around there. If you want to count that, you probably want to count your travel expenses as well, coz the savings you may get could be negated by the travel expenses.

haha very true. stringing can cost quite abit.. so be prepared to pay up to 40bucks for it depending on what type of strings you want.

Nblade is good but somehow i find it abit too stiff for my liking. so depends on how you like it to be lo

RM60-70??? Sure is expensive...

How durable are they? I'm currently using Ashaway Crossfire (RM35) and they don't last very long even for the 16 gage one (tied at 60lb). Only last me bout 3 weeks (playing bout 3-4 times per week).. Though I think it is probably caused by my racquet... Hybrid Shark OS (110sq and 16x19 string pattern)... gap between strings are kinda huge...

Err, Ashaway Crossfire II I think... hybrid strings right? My usual shop selling for RM35 including stringing lo.

I don't think he has Luxilon... the strings he offer are pretty much limited lo... So of all I took this Crossfire since most durable among all I've used.

A bit regret getting that Shark leh.. Especially OS.. -.- Should have went with MP.. (Though I have a feeling he nv tie properly.. after 2 weeks or so the tension became super loose already..like lower than 55lb ._.)

Luxilon is really good i think. Once i used it, i am stuck to it. Although is abit pricy, but it last for some time.
Do u guys know any where to play tennis around subang or sunway area ? cos i am not local. I am a student here. Now only able to play when i am back in my hometown.

haha i am from kajang as well... but as far as i know... there are no free tennis court around.

The only place i went to play tennis was in Palm Garden resort which is somewhat near kajang i suppose... only 15minutes drive.

I am not sure about equipment for tennis in kajang but i do know a sports shop in the town which is 1 row beside billion mall... that shop does sell badminton stuff.. but not sure about tennis.

Tennis equipment can be very costly when you buy it at rip off places.. so becareful.

haha i wish that i can play with you... but currently busy... so maybe next time! icon_rolleyes.gif

actually i helped my housemate to buy it. and i have tried it a few times, i must say it is good..... the raquet head size, weight almost everything is to my liking. the cortex system is perfect to damp the vibration from reaching the grip... considerably better than wilson's triad series in feel. very good for volley, but lack of power for my game. So instead i prefer using babolat pure drive.

Your racquet will probably end up looking pretty silly when the paint starts coming off, though. And your tennis balls will be full of red hashes. At least you'll know which ones are yours...

LOL, reminds me of my friend.

Was playing yesterday in campus and the balls got mixed up.. and the only way I could recognise which are mine are the "black color lines" on them.. Cause my friend went to paint the 2 black lines on his pure drive dry.gif.

And meh, sad.gif string burst again yesterday... Wasn't playing much at all due to exams and then holiday so no kaki... Time to find a new racquet.. this Hybrid Shark OS cost too much on maintainence =/ Looking on Nblade and Npro biggrin.gif. Friend asked a shop already, RM400 for nblade and RM380 for npro open. (Strings included..) Good deal?

Thinking of going for nblade instead of npro open but afraid the string bed might feel dead because of the dense string pattern...

PS. Prince do not warrant rackets bought on eBay. I suppose every other brand also.

Medium swing, single backhand. I am using the pure drive standard, because of my backhand. Double backhand players are recommended to try the longer pure drive Plus as it gives the extension needed and also more power for forehand strokes.

If you are just picking up the game.. and feel like getting a solid racquet... i highly recomend you to get a 2nd hand racquet. Some very good racquet are being sold second hand at a very very cheap price... i remember getting my sister a wilson Hammer for like Rm120. And it was really good.

However the only shop i have been to that sell 2nd hand racquet is the one in ampang sports ultimate i think.

That's right. But the shop is not so easy to find. They have to shops in the building. The one you want to find is next to the building exit next to the 'police station'. This entrance/exit is facing Jln Ampang.

If you find the one that does NOT sell the tennis stuff, just ask them how to get to the one that does. There's plenty of used tennis racquets there and they're popular in that department tongue.gif Hope you find something you like!

Dear all sifus...

I'm new tennis player, so treat me as noob in tennis.

So, I will be buying new tennis racquet.. any recommondation?
is there any requirement for racket like your height? ya, i'm just 160cm.. damn short...

or any way to determine whice racket suits me best? like tentions? weight of racket?

some history of mine in sports. Ya, I play brute badminton. smashing and hacking... all those...

Sifus please advice...

THanks/
*
I'm not a sifu...
I'm a noob too... brows.gif
for a beginner...we usually choose a lighter racquet...in between 8.5ounce-9.5ounce...
and oso hav to choose a racquet that it head size is big enuff...so that it's easier to hit on the ball...
i dunno which racquet really suits you...coz u need to try, test and hold the racquet urself...
but i currently have few in my minds for myself...all these racquets i think are old model...
so hopefully can get any of these racquets for cheap price...for less than rm150... biggrin.gif

1. Head Liquidmetal 4
2. Head Flexpoint 4
3. Prince Turbo Shark
4. Prince Triple Threat Scream
5. Wilson Hyper Hammer 5.3

can't find any review about this racquet on the internet...
just a few chinese websites got advertise on this racquet...

the uncle in the Ultimate Sport shop is quite nice...
he said can change to another racquet if i'm not satisfy with the racquet i've bought...
but i forgot to ask for the receipt when i leave the shop...blink.gif

Congratulations rclxms.gif

Start using it soon, and hope it works well for you.

Should not be a problem bringing it back even if you don't have a receipt.

Hey everyone, the sports complex in Kelana Jaya with tennis courts is now known as the MBPJ Sports Complex, right? It's just that I used to go to the one in that area back when it was called something else.

Anyway, anybody know their contact number for tennis court bookings? Thanks.

im only using 05 and 06 yr versions... they seem to have changed the foundations too much till the newer versions are actually making it vibrate too much.. but of coz my racquet is slightly altered in the sense that i put lead tape at 2 and 7 oclock for all 7 racquets.. it's a very balanced racquet... i would say the most balanced i've ever used in the 300g and above category

No lah, didn't blend. Me not so high tech yet. I'll keep using it until I'm very familiar with the feel then maybe try blending next time. Played nearly 3 hours yesterday, body a bit sore now... Haha!

But racquet feels much better now after changing the strings as it was getting lax. Yep, was blaming my crappy shots on the strings tongue.gif

Because Luxilon strings can really take a toll on your body. You need to add another string to kind of balance it. =) Its a great string i agree.

So how does it take a toll on one's body? Vibration to joints? So far I didn't notice any issues using it yet eventhough it was for a long duration.

My arm was hurting when i first changed to it. I thought i had the tennis elbow. I remember that you need to string it 10 pounds lower than what you want to string it.. Like your normal string tension is 55, you should string it 45. Check the paper come with the string packing.

Now i'm got used to it... No more pain. =)

Hmmm... I see, I must take note of that for sure... So far so good, though. I so far don't use a dampener on my K6-1 and it's still ok. I do string it at 55 and it feels about the same as m previous strings. Maybe my old joints nerves are numb already... Haha!

Yo, looks like me might be around the same level brows.gif

We should meet up sometime to knock the ball around. Some friends of mine want to play, and was thinking of trying the courts in Titiwangsa sometime. I believe that place shouldn't be a problem for you to get to. If you'd like, I could give you a buzz when that is arranged, then we could play a little.

I did see it today, but sorry, I don't have pictures of it. It's in Ultimate Sports (Plaza Ampang). Your student can go there to take a look and swing it around a bit. Can say that Tim told him about the used K6-1 Tour.

hey umm looking help on how to improve my playing skills... blush.gif

been taking lessons for a yr+ liao.. but still not v gd at it. coz i seldom practise bsides lessons once a week.

thing i notice is my swing isnt very firm. it's like when it makes contact with the ball it often gives off a very loud 'smack' sound that doesn't feel too good on my arm either >< is the problem my own arm not strong enough or my racquet? or my technique? my racquet is quite light, coz beginners racqet, i dunno what's the model or anything but when i bought it i think the word 'hammer ' was mentioned.

coz even when i do volley i feel the racquet is transmitting some of the shock to my arm. mostly this situation happens when coach gives me fast/hard balls. when slow balls normally won't have this prob.. can any1 help me out? unsure.gif

Basically if u hit the ball at the sweet spot,u shouldn't have any problem with the shock!
Unless ur racket got some crack or too old liow icon_rolleyes.gif
Tis scenario will cause ur arm pain nod.gif

I managed to get hold of a nblade recently.. It felt more powerful than my npro open actually... And I always thought nblade = control... No idea what strings was on it or the tension.. is some brown color string (same color as the paint job on the nblade lol)

I see... Dunno if nBlade suits you or not. Guess you'll have to demo. It's a 98 sq in. head, not the biggest. Maybe you should look at the Babolat Pure Drive. Ultimate Sports in Plaza Ampang is selling nBlade at 50% off. But they don't have stock now.

2k RMB.. not RM2000 la...Convert over bout RM900 lol.. Super expensive tongue.gif

Oh yea, just wondering when your string burst.. usually is it the mains or the cross? I usually burst at the mains (crossfire, the kevlar part)...but this time few times is the cross instead... String was still looking good, but Saturday it got wet then Monday went to play burst already aiseh... Used crossfire 16 and 17 both burst at the cross.. Maybe should try 18 this time...

Yeah, I also saw the pics of the KBlade and read about it already. Also pretty excited to read about the [K]Factor versions of the other racquets like the Pro. Look forward to checking them out.

Yea, I read the review on talktennis forum before. Apparently not that good compared to the original nblade or something. Which Jusco I not sure.. But definately a new one.. Probably the one in Sunway Pyramid? (I not from KL tongue.gif so not too sure)

Just a heads up, since I am also using this string, it frays the kevlar mains if you have played in the wet, or have using wet tennis balls, if thats not the case the norm is the synthetic cross will break, and if you use 18L that is a thinner gauge making the string more susceptible to breakage, although you do get more spin and perhaps more control using a thinner gauge, hope that helps.

I used 16L and then when the cross break instead, then the guy stringing told me to take 17L instead because the cross is always the same thickness (16L) regardless of what the main is...

So since my main doesn't burst but cross instead, maybe I could try 18 for better comfort? biggrin.gif. But thinner main will cause the cross to burst faster?

Something like,
16L kevlar mains 16L synthetic cross vs 18L kevlar mains 16L synthetic cross?

to bring own net is quite troublesome...
any reason why the authorities do not maintain the court like resurface the court in tmn megah and putting up the net???
it is a waste because the place surrounding is very nice.....

hi
anyone heard a racket called wilson court ace? is it good?
can find any referrence on the web..  hmm.gif

1 more thing..
what is the suffice racket for a beginner?
thks  biggrin.gif
*
Wilson court ace...I used before...
the head size is big...110...so i would say it's easier to hit the ball for beginner...
but then I return it to the shop few days later...
not that it's not good...
but for me lar...the feel is not that good...

it actually adequate for beginner...
but...imo...if u really passionate enough to learn tennis...
i would recommend u to buy a slightly better racquet...
just look for the second-hand racquet lor...
the one i bought is just 50 bucks more than the price of wilson court ace...

3K has one tennis court, and is bookable by phone. I did that before, but ended up cancelling. I think it might have been around $10 to $20 an hour. But I remember it being more expensive after 8pm.

Well it has been a very unlucky year for me... first I get to be School Player for the District (is it correct for Daerah) of Kuala Selangor which will be an easy ground for me to get into the State Level...

But then they change me to play in Double and I get a not so good Tennis partner which he cant serve and retrieve serve very well....

Then My hope to play tennis again will be ruin as I have to go to National Service....ARGH!!!!! Then I will S*ck Like Hell Back...

Same i guess. Unless your grip size too small then add an overgrip. Overgrip easy to change ma.  tongue.gif

thks. so an overgrip is just another grip wrap around the original grip.

Yeah, the K factor line for Blade series.

Got a few models, 98 and tour. OS is the one used by Serene Williams and Venus Williams.. (The limited edition black and white one).

uhuk-uhuk, I only tested nblade once.. and found it quite nice to use. Didn't felt like it lack of power actually..maybe the weight compensated for it already. Comparing it with my npro open actually.. i read reviews in the internet back then everyone complain say no power.. but the one i used didn't lack of power at all.

I think got 3 K blades. 98, Pro and Tour. Yes, the Williams using the Tour, Djokovic using 98 if i'm not mistaken. The Pro was intended for Ivanovic, but she left Wilson and using Yonex now.

Blade series memang no power one... =) Good control.

Just marathon tennis 4 hours.. freaking TIRED!

Watched TV yesterday, saw the replay of Serena Williams versus Lucie Safarova. New Kfactor design seems alright.. with the k factor naming on the bumper of the racquet head.. And Safarova seems to be using K pro, not sure which variant.

let's just say k6-1 racquet is too good till cant even feel the ball for me... i like the feeling of hitting through the ball and k6-1 doesnt offer that to me haha..

my price when i bought the n6-1 my supplier gave me very close to his cost price which was less than 300 haha

and also, many ppl must've shared my same view because in the last 2 months alone, 1xx racquets of n6-1 was sold !!!! shocking.gif

The racquet? Played on Thursday, this racquet provides less power than my previous racquet, some shots that supposed to get over didn't.. Have to do some adjustment.. Like the feel. =) But the original grip is white blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif Super dirty now the grip haha.

well maybe the next u string can lower the tension abit more lo... if the feel is good means adjustment on tension... keep the mains at 55 but try the crosses at 53.. but always remind your stringer that the side strings before the knots need to string 5-8lbs higher

n6-1 is much heavier at 310g... purely control racquet... super hard to generate power.. ask heeren. he and his friend very confident beat me already with me using this racquet brows.gif laugh.gif

Hi,
I'm not sure where they are selling barricade 4 or 5 here in KL but i saw it before. Its much more expensive here compared to singapore.

In singapore, you can get a pair for less than rm300-rm350. I just got my new pair of b5 thumbup.gif. My b4 bald already.haha.

My advice, buy it from s'pore. icon_rolleyes.gif

i wouldnt mind if it was heavier since its a control racket, it might be harder to generate power otherwise. RU considering between the n6-1 and k6-1 too?

i wouldnt mind if it was heavier since its a control racket, it might be harder to generate power otherwise. RU considering between the n6-1 and k6-1 too?
*
the head xI6 is too light for my liking...short swingers would benefit this...prefer my classic prince synergy...

and yes m considering n6-1 and k6-1 as well...

The K6-1 Tour is significantly stiffer and more solid than the n6-1 Tour. The n6-1 flexes and vibrates quite a bit more. I like the K6-1 one more than the n6-1 in feel. If you like heavy racquets, you might like to try the US versions, they're 0.7 oz heavier at 12.0 oz/340gm.

Wilson Evolution not bad actually, just would have prefered if the middle part is using the leather-ish type of material instead of the white soft material..

what size is your shoe tongue.gif some models limited to certain sizes tongue.gif

the rate that i restring is the same rate lots of shops charge so it's easier for u to just head on to any trusted sport shops near your area rather than come and pass me your racquet haha. but if u would like to buy big banger or other wilson strings u can find me icon_idea.gif

The guy who played against Federer, nearly won, damn I like him. If he beats Federer, he is definitely going to be the spotlight of the year. What a close match. I'm able to see him controlling the matches most of the time.
