QUOTE(Aaronnnnnn @ Nov 10 2022, 09:26 AM) i really want to buy a good affordable riding pants <$200, but the pants recommended by ryan F9 all not in MY huhuhu Don't think you can get proper riding pants under 200 here. Proper ones with Kevlar lining will be closer to 500 even on sale. Incidentally, These just came in the mail. ![]() Thick cotton/khaki type material. Single layer. Won't slide worth shit. But at least it has armour pocket on hip and knees. Paid like 70 each. Just treat it as normal pants. I wear these on the daily to work along with my other single layer jeans. Let's face it, you are not going for a long slide in city traffic. Impact protection is more important. It's a compromise I'm willing to make for cost and comfort. Kevlar lined is just a bit too hot in daily traffic. Slide protection or not, these are way more comfortable on a bike than normal jeans, since they are cut for riding and have stretch fabric at the correct places....and correct lenght so you don't look like wearing 3/4 pants when on the bike. My Komine WJ733 jeans use high-strength fiber Kevlar for hip and knee lining only. Thus it is not so hot to wear. I was quoted RM1K plus for Revit full long length Kevlar jeans. Now RM1,140 for 2 Komine jeans. Can swap when one is wet.

QUOTE(alexei @ Nov 10 2022, 10:26 AM) what is the rational behind it? please share. cotton or poly+cotton no slide protection, later DNA on the tarmac.I think the optimum option is either cordura, or kevlar lined on the knee and bum. BUT, fake Komine with real CE1 is better than normal jeans, I've seen those being quite affordable, so no excuse really. This post has been edited by Jason: Nov 10 2022, 09:05 PM |

QUOTE(Jason @ Nov 10 2022, 09:05 PM) what is the rational behind it? please share. cotton or poly+cotton no slide protection, later DNA on the tarmac. Cordura is just a brand name of a nylon based fabric.I think the optimum option is either cordura, or kevlar lined on the knee and bum. BUT, fake Komine with real CE1 is better than normal jeans, I've seen those being quite affordable, so no excuse really. For slide abrasion, you need to look at the fabric density. Any fabric with weave densities of 800 (denoted denier) or more will offer good slide abrasion. Basically, more fabric, better abrasion resistance. Kevlar just adds tensile strength, it actually doesn't abrade that well, but what it does is, it doesn't rip. So you will still get some protection if your main fabric rips for some reason. A proper riding garment is also built differently with a lot more reinforced stitching. Hence the cost. If your seams rip, whatever high denier fabric you use would be useless. Nothing beats proper thick leather though. Even those are double or triple stitched. This post has been edited by jaycee1: Nov 10 2022, 10:39 PM Quazacolt liked this post

Fabric textile abrasion resistance and durability are two different aspect, with the later usually less published. Ever kena some synthetic material like jacket or windbreaker that comes apart, or disintegrate, or just rips to shreds after several years? Pay attention to the material and you shall see.
Leather also have its own grades, from different animal sources - goat, cow, kangaroo, stingray, and different grades of the same - full grain, top, etc. Some brands have their own treatment (oils, conditioners) to make their leather look and feel better. In my experience, leather is heavier, and protects against heat from the sun. Meaning, if you stay under the sun while not moving, the leather doesn't let the heat from the sun into the rider, but you'll sweat nonetheless. Comparing perforated leather to textile jackets with air vents, I prefer leather. Mesh jacket is "better than nothing" category. |

My RS Taichi textile/mesh jacket is 5 years old now and if not because of a small hole from my previous crash, I kid you not, is still in perfect condition, even the internal liner. I guess RS Taichi uses some very nice textile for their jacket to last this long with pretty regular use.Leather also have its own grades, from different animal sources - goat, cow, kangaroo, stingray, and different grades of the same - full grain, top, etc. Some brands have their own treatment (oils, conditioners) to make their leather look and feel better. Actually I have a spare riding pant/jeans. Wrong size/cutting for me.. Same design as the new ones I got above. Green. No armour. (I can probably find and include some Eva hip pads and knee pads if you want, but better just buy your own armour). Branded "Komine". Worn only a few times. 1 size too big for me. Suitable for 32-33inch and 170cm. Free to a good home. Pickup at Sunway area if interested. PM. Jason liked this post
